Good luck to all you St. George athlete's tomorrow! I did it last year and it sounds like the weather is simialar compared to last year. Hopefully the water is a bit warmer than the 58 degrees we had in 2010. By tomorrow night you will all be IRONMEN and will have really earned it! My best advice - take it easy on those climbs on the bike! I will go back someday to take on that monster again, but I need to forget how tough the course is. ![]() |

It is a week later than last year though, so you're forgiven. Thanks for the well-wishes, and good luck at IMTX! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() biked an quick, easy 50 miles this morning, which makes over 700 miles for the month, so I'm in reasonable enough shape. I really wished I had put in more hills on my training though. Oh well, it'll have to do. Should be good enough to get me to the run. |

The water temp. is up to 62! went to sand hollow today (3pm). water was 58* a foot deep at where the start will be. i doubt it will get anywhere near 65*. the wind was howling, white caps like an ocean. the wind here can be terrible in the afternoon. it's a cold wind from the north now (locals said 'this is more like out winter, not spring') but is supposed to calm a bit and turn to be from the south by race day. that should warm things up a bit. good luck all

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, so I got my bars on the bike and was able to get out on Sat for a quick 1 hour ride. The bars and aerobars worked well. The bars are a bit different then the last ones but over all I felt more comfortable. I just hope the comfort last for the entire 112. So I am good to go. I just hope and can keep my nerves down. Very excited and nervous about my 1st IM! It is only my 2nd tri ever. Good luck everyone and thanks for all the posts. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think anything other than "Why is your face so blue?" would be welcome! Actually, one thing that might help someone... if they don't have their helmet clipped before they exit transition that can be a rules violation, so be sure they have it clipped. |

What was your first tri? LOL, My 1st and as yet only tri was the 1/2 silverman last Nov. Last year after watching St. George IM, I thought I should do this and if I start right now I will have an entire year to train. I started training and decided that half way I should do a 1/2 distance to see how I was doing. I did not realize the Silverman was so tough, but it was local so I signed up. Well here I am a year later ready to be an ironman. 1 year from coach slug to ironman, what a wonderful trip it has been! See ya all there!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got into St George on Sunday night and took a spn on the run course, and remembered that while the first climb when we turn onto the parkway is steep and kinda brutal, the one coming up from the turn around till Pioneer Park is no joke either. Rode an easy 20 out by Gunlock yesterday and came across a pack of donkeys hangin out by the road. I love this area and am so excited to be here! Today is an easy 3 mile run up on the run route. |

New user ![]() | ![]() Anybody else looking at the weather report and getting worried? 90 degrees and 20 mph wind with 38 mph gusts! At least the wind is looking like it will come from the south. I don't mind some wind, but 20 is a little strong. I did a race a few years back with 20 mph headwind for the first 20 miles. It is not a pleasant memory. But when we were finally headed in the other direction it was like riding in a vacuum tube. On this course we will probably have a lots of side and head wind coming out from Sand Hollow. It is looking like tail wind while climbing up past Gunlock. That I like. Then side wind from the top of the wall to Veyo. Head wind from Veyo back to town. So we will have to peddle hard even though we are going down. Beautiful. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rustyspoone - 2011-05-03 1:14 PM I guess it depends on what forecast you are reading. According to weather.com winds are only 12 mph from the ssw. I am not one to worry about the weather. We can't change the weather. Just be smart and race based on the conditions.Anybody else looking at the weather report and getting worried? 90 degrees and 20 mph wind with 38 mph gusts! It is looking like tail wind while climbing up past Gunlock. That I like. Then side wind from the top of the wall to Veyo. Head wind from Veyo back to town. So we will have to peddle hard even though we are going down. Beautiful. The problem is that most of that stretch from Veyo to St. George really isn't downhill. Especially for the first 6-8 miles or so, lots of open and flat with a couple climbs still. When you get to the downhill, it is pretty steep, and you're going so fast it's not an easy place to relax. Then you've got more flat and a little climb before the final steep drop into St. George again. Personally, I find that to be the hardest part of the course. The hill just after Veyo doesn't look as bad as "the wall", but to me feels worse--especially if you're climbing it into a headwind. It's the one area of the course where I have to just put my head down and "get through it". I think part of it is the mental expectation that the climbing is over when I hit Veyo, but it isn't. Winds will probably still be calm on the ride to town from the reservoir, so that shouldn't be too big a deal. The Veyo-St. George portion of the second loop will be the crux of the ride I think. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() X2, I dont let the weather stress me. Plus predicting wind many days in advance is really flawed. As was mentioned, try to focus your energy on things you can control, its a waste to expend it on things you cant. Mentally work on how you will deal with the wind rather than worrying about how the wind will deal with you. Act vs react. |

Reservoir is warming up. Winds will be manageable I think. It's going to be an awesome day. |
