2 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Does anyone know the logistics of getting our stuff to T2? Is this something we do on race morning and then walk over to the Hilton to catch a shuttle to the swim or is this something that we do on Saturday? I have read the athletes guide and can't seem to find that information anywhere. |

2 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I may be confused on this. I'm relooking at the course map and i'm thinking t1 and t2 are in the same spot. I was thinking t2 was in a different area as with Branson half IM. Looks like we'd just need to bring our running shoes with us to the swim on race morning. |

You will check your Bike in on Saturday and bring the rest of your gear to transition on Sunday morning. |

Arm Coolers w a fabric called Icefil: ( Tried them in a room w 40 Cyclists Sweating Their guts out on the Floor ( usually me Too!). But, I slipped these Arm Coolers on andinstead of drenching my hair & Everything Else, I had only 1 Bead of Sweat on myforehead....... I actually couldn't believe it.! (Zoot, Pearl Izumi. Garneau @ LBS. ($30)2). A Running Hat w Omni-Cool fabric ..... Uses heat & sweat as a form of coolant. Both kind of amazing. Soooo, even tho I'll be starting late, I'm more confident that Iwon't get Heat Stroke @ NOLA like 4 yrs ago. Hope that helps!!! See everyone soon :-) Marie |

Temps in the 90s. They helped immensely. What I did was at every aid station on the bike and run was to pour water all over them. I got that tip somewhere and it was a race saver. |

Extreme Veteran 492 NW Arkansas | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Can't speak for Marie but in my case I put them on in transition, but it was a full Ironman, so a few seconds didn't make much difference. I think they would be a pain in the butt to get the wetsuit over. A good trick for sleeves, socks, etc., for putting on wet is to roll them up and then you just slip the foot/hand/arm/etc through the rolled up material and then unroll the item. It works well. That's how I will do my socks and sleeves this weekend. |

19 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread The Arm Coolers are very thin....EZ to put on either under Wetsuit, orIn Transition. We will dry pretty darn fast, but you young kids (Paul) won't needNeed them..... You will be thru the race in no time! Can't wait to get to NOLA,It's Snowing Again here. Also, my thoughts are with the Boston Marathon injured. So sad & infuriating. Marie |

Glad to see she is going to New Orleans. A note on the caffeine,,another option "possibly along with the caffeine" is FRS,, all the B vitamins will boost your energy..I carry the FRS chews in the loops of my race belt and will also consume Accel gels with caffeine.....I mix and match the caffeinated gels with non-caffeininated and as my primary fuel I use Hammer Perpetuem...
good luck everyone,, looks like great weather for race day |

It does look like it will be nice. I'm not holding my breath though. I'll trust it when I see it! Water temp is 69* today. Will be in the 80's the next few days, but Fri it may dump cold rain. What do you all think the water temp needs to be to swim without a wetsuit?? I really don't want to put the darn thing on if I can get by without it. |

Veteran 212 Commerce, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread runswithcrazydog, opps, i couldn't resist the comment on the weather. i think 71 is perfect for wetsuit,, but could feel comfortable in temps above 71 without the suit. i like the ease and speed through the water with the suit but would hope for cold morning air temps and "no sun"... i don't mind puttin the suit on ,, just don't like fussin with taking it off. |

In NO we may just get strippers. I'm okay with either. |

Expert 1375 McAllen | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Awww man!!! bad planning on my part. I thought I reserved the Four Points hotel in the french quarter RIGHT next to the finish line! I ended up reserving the hotel right next to the airport in Metairie. The good news though is it isn't too big of a screwup; its only a 20 minute drive on the expressway (which we're right next to) to the Hilton. They had the same name -.- is I-10 a toll road? Also am I forgetting anything on the to-do list as far as the race is concerned? Saturday is athlete check-in, bike check-in, race briefing, prepare equipment and psyche. Sunday is race until your toes go blue. I'm preparing a travel binder. This is the first time I'm traveling without a seasoned traveler (pretty much anyone over the age of 30, its just me and my friend we're both 19) for more than 300 miles away from home. The drive is almost 700 miles. Any tips? |

Veteran 323 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Odpaul, when my kids made their first long road trip, we made sure their car was prepared for the journey. Have a credit card for emergencies. Pack a lunch so you don't eat junk and plenty of water so you will stay hydrated. Be sure the hotel knows if you will be a late arrival. Text your mom every few hours so she knows you are safe. |

Veteran 323 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I struggle to get the wetsuit on. Off isn't that bad. This morning I was going to do another trial in the pool, but it was so warm in the building that my skin became damp quickly and I gave up the fight. It was stuck on my shins like a suction cup and no amount of pulling could budge it. A friend recommended TriSlide so I need to find some of that. Did not see wetsuit strippers mentioned in the guide, but I heard that is standard procedure for IM brand so I'm not sure what to expect. |

To get it off easily I'll typically just spray trislide all the way from mid calf down to half of my foot (over the heel and ankles), then rub it in with just one hand. I've never used bodyglide before so I'm gonna do a trial swim tomorrow morning with the wetsuit and see how it works. Plus I need to swim in the suit at least once anyways. |

Expert 1375 McAllen | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I keep putting the bike course on mapmyride and I keep getting 45 miles. Anybody else? Also a rules question. What if the athlete you're trying to overtake denies the pass and accelerates so you cannot overtake him/her, meaning you can't pass in the twenty second margin? Is this legal and does anyone get penalized? Edited by odpaul7 2013-04-16 9:36 PM |

Veteran 212 Commerce, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Paul, I am thinking you would have to drop back unless you can overtake them. But I would think they would initially honor your attempt and hold off unless the pace is not that much different between each of you making it difficult to change positions. |
