Hi Tim,

It was great to watch it your season unfold and to see how much progress you made - be sure to go back to the start and go back over your logs / posts as a reminder of how far you came in such a short time.

Look forward to now seeing those winter logs whilst I am basking in the sunshine

I did as Michelle mentioned and here are the results...

First bike of the year...12mi @ 16.23mph (on a very flat course)

Bike leg of my recent tri...16.78mi @ 20.06mph

First run of the year...3mi @ 10:10/mi

Run leg of my tri...3.1mi @ 8:31/mi

First swim...500y @ 2:11 per 100y pace (I stopped my watch while I rested several times)

Tri swim...700m @1:46 pace

Keep in mind that all my 2nd times are done during a triathlon, while the 1st were just done on their own.   Pretty amazing to think back and see how far I have come.  All this improvement was done in less than 5 months as I really didn't start training until March, and didn't start training hard until May.  I would be curious to see how everyone else improved, as I know you've all been working your tails off!

Hi Tim,

That is really awesome progress, I was going to say especially your swim pace but they are all amazing times and you should be feeling pretty happy with your season.

What is the plan now?

Thanks, it does feel really good.  I've got a 10k run coming up in about 3 weeks that I am going to keep training for.  I'm also gonna sign up for some more runs and see if I can build up to a half marathon in Jan or Feb.  Also gonna sign up for a few bike rides and possibly a 100 miler (my long is 62mi).  On top of that, I am trying to keep swimming twice a week.

It seems wierd that I am in such a warm state and my season is already over.  There are still more races, but no shorter ones and nothing close to me.  So, I will just keep training outdoors while I can (which down here should get me into Nov or Dec.)   We'll see how all that goes.  Sounds like a lot now that I typed it all out!

Hey Tim! Awesome job!!

It's been so bad for me lately and now I'm in a terrible funk! I need to get back into the swing of things.. but all I need to do is read your training logs to inspire me!

It is a lot but isn't it nice to see some things sitting on the horizon?

You might also enjoy the simplicity of training for one race discipline at a time??

I am really sorry I decided to try and train for a half and then full marathon at the same time I am training for my first short distance tri.  Bad idea as the running program means I am running way more than if I were just training for the tri which is why I am struggling so much to fit it all in and do it properly. Won't be doing that again

Tim, have you thought about doing BT's tri in Galveton in late October?  I know it'd be a drive for you, but it really looks like a lot of fun!

20??? 20mph?? That is a very good clip!

I know that I'll check all of your logs next year and my jaw will drop... keep it up!

Lora, yes I did want to do that one in Galveston, but I will be in San Diego that week for our anniversary.  I hope this doesn't prove I have become a total TRI geek...but I actually looked for races in San Diego that week to see if I could do one out there!  haha  Didn't find one.  My wife and I are doing a run in NY at the end of this month.

And here I thought Greg's nickname had something to do with laundry!

Hey Tim, Are you doing the run in Saranak (sp?)..heard that's a fun one, the Saranak brewery sponsors it and there's free beer afterwards!

If you're going to NYC, you'll be in my neck of the woods!

Have fun in San Diego!!

Never heard of Saranac, but looked it up and it sounds like a good local beer.  Can't beat the free beer.  No, we are doing a run in downtown NY called the Tunnel to Towers.  It is a run that was started when a firefighter was on his way home right before the towers were hit.  Since traffic got backed up, he grabbed his gear and ran from Brooklyn all the way to the towers.  He was in the towers when they collapsed.  His brother/family started the run in his honor.  Just thought it was a good cause and a chance to go to NY for the first time ever.

Wow, that's awesome ~ and sad the same time. My husband works in NYC and was in the midst of everything that day. It was the scariest day of my life. I didn't hear from him until 1:00 that afternoon. He did not work at the towers, but he saw everything; we didn't know what was going to happen after that..tunnels, bridges etc. So it made it even scarier. We were one of the lucky ones. We had neighbors and friends of friends that never came home that day.

Good luck with your run that day! And enjoy NYC, you'll love it! Let me know if you want me to give you some pointers on where to go, etc. I'd be happy to send you a list of things to do/see.

Sorry everyone, for being such a downer here

Hi Toni,

You are not a downer at all. I don't doubt that was a terrifying and sad day for you and the people around you.

I went to NYC back in 1989 and loved it and of course since then Sex in the City has made everyone fall in love with it

You are so far from being a downer, Toni.  I'm very glad your husband could come back home to you.

I was in NYC in 2004 and just loved it.  I could sooooo easily live there.

The City is definitely a character in Sex and the City and it definitely makes me want to go back again.

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes, I had a great day!

I am racing this weekend, so I am trying to do a taper week. Taper week to me means short, semi intense workouts, so my plan is to cut swim workouts to about 100 yds, and runs to about 2 miles and spend a little time riding. To clearify, I have no idea if this is right or not. I know this is a race that I want to excel at. This race was one of the first Tris I ever did, like 8 years ago. My folks are going to be there as well. My goal is to go under 90 minutes on this thing.

My wife really wanted to do the Sex in the City tour, but decided not to do it on this trip (thank you Lord!).  We're are actually flying into Philly to visit my brother, then going into NYC for a day, staying the night, then going back to Philly.  So we will only be in NY for about 24hrs. NY is way more expensive than I ever thought.  Gonna stay downtown in the financial district near the towers site.  Will probably just walk around and see that area and then try to get up to central park and then that is it.  We won't get to see a whole lot, and will be taking another just NYC trip down the road sometime so we can see more sites. I am just a country boy, so I can't even imagine how NYC will blow me away!!

And Toni, I am glad your husband was OK and hope that we never forget what happened.

Thank you! Yes, NYC will blow you away. So much to do and see. The people watching will be fun as well. Have fun in Philly too. That's where we are from originally...moved up closer to NY now. But I hear Austin is great! We always wanted to take a visit there as well...toyed around with the idea of moving there to escape the rat race of the NE

I know I've been a total lazy bum this week, so I have more appreciation for all ya'll who keep on working out.  To everyone who has a race this weekend, GOOD LUCK!!  I know you will all do great!

I might not be on the computer much this weekend.  Hurricane Ike is supposed to hit the Texas coast here in less than 2 days.  As of now they are predicting it coming inland and possibly hitting Austin as a Cat 1-2!  So, there is a good chance I'll be called in to work as we have a lot of evacuees coming in from the coast.

Ya'll be safe and enjoy your weekends and your races!!

Be safe Tim!

Ike may effect my triathlon this weekend also. They are already amking plans about what to do on Sunday (expecting heavy rains). They have talked about changing it to a duathlon, but I am not sure how I feel about riding on wet slick roads..maybe consider this a charitable guft and getting for the next duathlon on the 28th I am schedule for. I am just not looking forward to riding on rain slicked roads.

There are just too many hurricanes to keep up with.... probably since they never hit Ontario.

James -

100y workouts are a bit too short.

What I see is you swam 20,000m in august. That's 5000 per week (good job by the way!). So for this week I'd do maybe 2000-3000m.
