Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? MLS Starts this weekend. If you don't have a team, the Fire (Chicago) will welcome you with open arms. Oh, and on the LFC front, RAFA SIGNED! He has a new contract through 2014. Phew. Anyway, MLS starts so now as one league starts to wind down, my other one picks up. Sweet! |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? zed707 - 2009-03-17 2:04 PM I caught First Take on ESPN this morning and they had Drew Carey on the show. I didn't know it, but he's part-owner of the Seattle Sounders. Drew was on the show promoting the upcoming season and he gave a great interview. He told how he got into soccer--he was living in LA and ended up going to a Galaxy game only to see the new stadium. He fell in love with the game and has been to games all over--including Europe. He loved the game so much he wanted to be part of it and that's how he came to be part owner of the Sounders. He ended the show debating Skip Bayless about the relevance of Soccer/American Football and Drew represented very well. He really stressed that if people would just go to a professional game in person they would appreciate the sport a lot more. It's motivated me to catch a Sounders game this year--it's not a long drive from Spokane and I have family there. Well, the Sounders definitely opened the season with a bang last night. 3-0 rout of New York! I do believe they are not going to be your run of the mill expansion team. And that new kid, Fredy Montero, is going to be fun to watch. He has a pretty decent first touch and has some nice 1-on-1 ball handling in tight spaces. Should be VERY interesting indeed. |

I wasn't able to catch the game, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a write-up in the Spokane newspaper this morning. The article said attendance was a sellout--32,500, which filled the lower level of Qwest field. They also noted the noise level was similar to a Seahawks game. I can't wait to go to a game in person! MLS started? - ( just kidding - too much basketball at this time of year) Yeah. And I'm Steven Gerrard. Taking a conspiracy theorist point of view, UEFA is trying to eliminate as many EPL teams as possible as early as possible so it won't be an all EPL final like last year. And yes, ManUre gets another cake walk to the semi's. Bollocks I say. |

It is essentially Chelsea's pre-season. Working out the bugs. Chelsea was in the States a few years ago and played the US MLS All-Stars at the break. Went to that match. All the players I loved to hate were there. It all depends on how healthy they are. The draw is for the names so they usually play at least the first half. Heck, I've even gotten to see the Fire play Celtic. That was fun too. And then Everton last year. Although little Timmy Cahill (the fkuc) was injured for the match. |

One thing I'm concerned about is that they might be missing one potentially very important city. St. Louis. That is a soccer town if there ever was one. And they still haven't gotten the nod. Something is going on but I don't know where. St. Louis or MLS. |

Is there an immigrant base of nationalities that would turn out? I think that is what helps sustain the success and momentum for new franchises. |

GAME ON!!! I can't believe you could have expected the results from this morning! Could not have played out better for LFC--they just better win tomorrow. Watched the second half of the Tottenham game--what a thriller. Gotta love the Modric goal and Gomes had just an incredible second half. Edited by zed707 2009-03-21 12:37 PM |

Watched the second half of the Tottenham game--what a thriller. Gotta love the Modric goal and Gomes had just an incredible second half. They not only won, they put a SERIOUS dent in the goal differential. Mercy! It started to get really ugly for a while there. And with the two red cards in the ManUre match, that means Shrek and the Red Head (Scholes) will be out of the next match. SUCK ON IT FERGIE!!! And the Fire won too. Against Dallas. Good weekend for me all around! Edited by crowny2 2009-03-23 7:46 AM |

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Good weekend for Pool - thought Stevie G's celebration of his hat trick was a bit hollow since 2 were PK's and one a free kick!...Villa has rolled over an played dead too..everyone loved Martin O'Neill BUT playing a central midfield player at right back really hurt....Reo Coker gave away the free kick for the first goal, was beaten by a punt for the second, fouled ( or touched Reina and he fell over) for the third and the PK - what makes it worse is he actually signed 2 full backs in the off season he isnt using!....Genius! Chelski were unlucky - Gonzo. ( Gomez - have you seen that nose?!!!) made a couple of outstanding saves for a change...should have been a draw. Manure looked average in the beginning - great in the second half but could not score..a couple of fortunate bounces went Fulham's way...game was over when Rooney decided to throw a paddy - and was deservedly sent off - I would have prefered it if the ref made him sit in the corner for a pseudo time out..would have been more applicable for his childish behaviour On the St Louis question - I've been there many times for soccer tournaments etc...it is a hot bed for "playing" soccer - just dont know if it is for watching...when was the last MNT game there? and was it well attended? |

Don't forget the sending off of Friedl was a very poor decision in the Pool/Villa match. PK, sure. Yellow, probably. Straight red, no. And that second goal by Fulham was magical. Just magical. I loved it. More good questions about STL. No idea. Sure there would be two almost immediate Derby's built in (CHI and KC) but not certain about attendance which would have to be the overall driver for a new team there. |
