I thought this was going to be an easy weekend, catch up on some sleep, then go for a long run and a ride and take it easy.  I just got off the phone with my mom.  They are planning a little get together tomorrow so I won't be sleeping in and not sure if I will be able to get in both the run and the ride before we have to leave to head out to the parents. Sunday is looking busy too.  Church in the morning and people coming over in the afternoon.

eliwashere - 2010-03-05 6:32 AMHey All,
So, the weekend is upon us!
Long training runs, getting our extra hours in, and resting with the family.
My family is running a 5k at disney tomorrow. Unfortuneatly, the forecast is for COLD. Iguanas falling out of trees cold.
Darn!
I am hoping to get in an hour on the exercise bike on Sat, and then maybe something on Sunday, but it might be tough, due to my wife's half-marathon.
Then, next week, I am off to travel for a few days.....
This should make for a nice taper.
Anyone else have any plans?
So how do you like the Disney races? I was thinking about putting one on my schedule for next year and making a vacation out of it.

I'm back! I got two workouts in while I was traveling this week. Not ideal but I was not feeling very good and forgot my swimsuit so there was only so much running I could do. I'm hoping to get in a ride outside in the morning. It is supposed to be beautiful later in the day but only 30 degrees in the morning so it's going to take some determination to get out there. My new wheels came in! They are pretty. I need to pick up some new tires and transfer the cassette and I'll be good to go. I'm hoping that next week I'll get back into a routine and get some good training. I only have a couple of weeks left before I shift to full-fledged tri training and not just whatever I feel like doing.

Wow.  Didn't know Trek does custom paint.  Very nice. I might have to go with a different color though.

Jack,
Where is the link? I can't find your bike in the forums?

Wow. I live the way the TTX looks. Can't wait to see the custom job.

I was just reading the "how not to buy a bike" article in bicycling magazine. I am still one fence, but like the feeling of thinking abou .

Katie, Where are the pics of your wheels???

Jack,
OK, gotcha. I saw the post. I agree, the TTX is mouth watering. I think I would have gone with red rather than pink!
I fooled around on the project one page a bit last week.
I think I am going to remain in the Trek 2.3 range for now...but you never know!!!
Katie, what kind of wheels did you get?

Hey all,
Good news went to my diabetic doctor today.  He cut my metformin form 3 tablets to 1 tablet a day.  So my taining is doing good.  There is some concern why I'm not losing weight but I'm just plain disappointed about that I have to keep a food log for a week and will start working with a nutritionists next week. I hope my weight starts coming off soon.

Jack- That's HUGE.  I'm a dentist, and deal with diabetes related issues that my patients have every day.  If your body is starting to properly regulate glucose/insulin- all will be well.  You're talking about a massive change, from a metabolic standpoint, if you are cutting your dose to only one metformin daily.  To put it in perspective, you were producing around 2 times too much glucose due to poor insulin production when you were taking 3 metformins.  Now, you're only producing about 1/3 too much extra glucose.  That's like a 6 times reduction.
Additionally, weight loss will only come AFTER you've got the insulin/glucose balanced.  It's great you're going to a nutritionist and trying out a food log.  If you're honest with it, it will really help.

I started a "carb-cycling" diet last week.  So far, the results are awesome.  You can see the cycle rotation on my blog front page with the training list.  The only downside is I'm losing weight and now worry about going sub-200 (and dropping out of the clydesdale div)

Cheers,
steve

So here are the new wheels.  They are neuvation R28X.  I have yet to ride them but they are now ready to go so hopefully I'll get out on them Saturday.  My old hybrid bike will be fully functional as soon as I find my seatpost (It's somewhere) so it'll be nice to not have an incomplete bike hanging around.

That is real exciting news!  I think the first concern is the diabetes and if things are going good with that, then the weight issue will eventually resolve itself. Good job!  Keep up the good work.

I'm going to have to check out your diet.  I'm getting frustrated with my weight loss efforts. I need to start a food log. I don't think I'm eating any different then I was last fall but last fall the weight was coming off easily and I can't seem to lose anything now.  I just have the normal fluctuation of +/- 1 lb or so. I would love to get out of the clyde division, which would only be about 5 lbs.

x2 on the wheels.  I like the blue accent. Maybe some new blue bar tape or seat or something to show off the blue a little more? Then again, I'm also the guy that has considered shaving my legs barber pole style just to see the reaction I would get from other people.

Jack, great news!! I am not a medical professional of any sort, but I firmly belive that diet and excercise should be a primary weapon in the fight against many medical problems, like diabetes.
Katie, I am sooooo jealous!
Steve, I had been thinking about a carb cycling diet. A couple of people really raved about their experiences. I will check out your logs!
I am at the airport in Las Vegas waiting for a flight home. I was here two days for a meeting, and was so busy, I didn't even get to gamble. Who would have thought.

The carb cycling diet i'm following can be read about at:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/par30.htm

So far, it's mainly shown me just how much carbs effect my system.
As in, I clearly would do better with fewer than I used to consume.
Today, a high carb day, should be great - eating stuff full of carbs.
But the bloated, messed up intestinal tract tells me that lots of carbs
aren't the optimal way of feeding the engine.

cheers,
steve

My husband teaches Taekwondo in our garage so I'm lucky I can even put my bike in there.....we just got the organizer stuff and now I can hide all my tri gear in the cupboards and I even get to put my awards on the little cube shelves and hang my medals from the pegboard.  I love it.

Sounds like its really nice. Now I'm even more jealous.  My garage is a horrible mess. We've been talking about redoing our kitchen so I may use the old cabinets to organize the garage.  We'll see how it goes.

Hey All,
WEEKEND IN-BOUND!!!
This last week or so was rough for me. I was sick for two-three days, then had to travel, etc.
Luckily, I feel a little back in the groove after two days of getting in solid workouts. Now...Time to taper.
I might get in a long easy ride this weekend and one last longish run, but next week is mostly short ans sweet for me.
And trying to sleep!
I may get a chance to go watch the Miami International Tri this weekend, that would be good motivation!
Any plans for the weekend?

Finally back on line and its the end of the weekend.  It didn't go at all as planned.  I spent Thursday night in the ER and friday in a hospital room with my son who over did it working out and ended up with rhabdomyolysis, which is one step away from compartment syndrome. His arms became very swollen and hard couldn't move them very well. Lots of tests and monitoring to make sure his heart and kidneys were ok and we finally got to go home and try to recoopperate from the time at the hospital. Didn't get my extra swim workout I was hoping to or my scheduled bike ride, but I did get in my long run Saturday night.

Paul,
Is your son doing better? I had a fried who had a bad case of compartment syndrome. She ended up having surgery to release the pressure. She said it really sucked.
So...How is everyone doing?
My weekend was so-so for training, and I have a busy workweek. However, I am starting to get motivated for my first tri of the season. 8 of us from my group are heading from Miami/West Palm areas to Sarasota. Should be interesting.
With any luck, the weather will stay mild so I don't overheat.
