Expert 1128 Boston | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED The 10% rule is basically this: Do not increase your run mileage by more than 10% each week. Follow the rule and you won't get injured (unless of course you twist an ankle...that's different) I had to take 6 months off from running due to an injury. I logged a lot of time on the elliptical. In January I started running with 1 mile and ever so slowly, using the 10% rule, have built up to 5 miles. |

I was afraid it meant only 10% of miles under run could be done while walking and I do about 20% walk, 80% run. |

I'm actually beginning to feel as though I can get back into my workout routines again. The knees feel good, the ribs are almost back to normal and a few days on the beach last week have me reinvigorated. Let's get going! |

Or at least could some one post who is on the team so I can add them to my friends list. Mucho gracias. Yup still in sunny Mexico. Desperately seeking a pool today. Daughter and I plan to crash a swanky hotel and just buy drinks so they will let us stay! Oh sure. Rub it in! I'm still in rainy, windy Idaho, headed to even colder Utah. I'll let the vastly more experienced peeps here explain the 10% rule. Also, I think when Josh does his spreadsheet for the IM that will have everyone listed. I'd do it, but I'll be away from the computer until Saturday. So, someone else needs to give Josh crap while I'm gone. We wouldn't want him getting too comfortable! (He IS more scary now though... so be a little careful) No computer, I hope you will be OK. |

Thank you, Danny Generally people continue to train this last week but begin to taper, easing back on the intensity. I also have a race on Sunday and my last workout is thursday and this coming Sunday will probably be my last "intense" workout. Maybe someone else can explain it more scientifically. |

I also have a race on Sunday and my last workout is thursday and this coming Sunday will probably be my last "intense" workout. Maybe someone else can explain it more scientifically. Scientifically, it's all relative. Seren and I are doing the same race and it's just another training day for me. I will probably take it a little easy on Sat, but won't ease up at all during the week. That being said, train moderately until Wednesday. Do something light on Thursday. Take off on Friday. Do a 20 min bike on Sat or 10 min run or a 15 min swim on to keep the muscles loose. Get a good nights sleep on Sat. Practice transitions in your backyard this week. Drink lots of water and gatorade during the week to stay hydrated. And have fun. You will do fine. |

Master 2146 East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED I am back in sunny RI. Happy to be home and enjoyed the time alone time with my daughter. Now it is back to reality. Also ended up my trip with some GI issues. A little under the weather today so I will be taking it easy this weekend. Not sure I can be away from a bathroom for much of a ride or run. We'll see. My daughter (the one who just came back with me) is running her first half mary tomorrow in Providence. She asked for the registration as a Christmas present. I'll be out cheering her on as well as several friends in the race. Let me know if you have anyone running who needs some support out there tomorrow. Have a great day all. |
