Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() pistuo - 2010-12-30 4:48 PM Alright, I just signed up for Galveston HIM (April 10)... no turning back now! I just started triathlon in feb and have only done 2 sprints. I've never biked more than 40 miles and I've never ran more than 10... so needless to say, I'm a little scared inside and I've got a lot of work to do... Help me Oprah! Good luck, I have never done a tri and my first will be in June. I am doing the oly, if all goes well I will sign up for the half at bear lake. So I can't wait to hear how yours goes. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() bwanzer - 2010-12-30 6:32 PM Just got off the trainer. Did an hour long ride and it felt good to finish. When I looked at my watch around 10 minutes I felt like cutting it short but I felt better as I went on and finished! From the sounds of it I need to get me a trainer. Maybe next year my list of stuff to buy this year is still pretty long. Pedals, tri clothes, pedals, shoes, wetsuit, and I thought racing Motorcycles was expensive. ![]() |

When I looked at my watch around 10 minutes I felt like cutting it short but I felt better as I went on and finished! I always make sure to get a 20 minute warm up during any training. I found it takes about that long for the blood to start flowing well and your HR to adjust to the effort. The times where I ignored the warmup are the ones where I usually feel like quiting early. |

(only bike I have). what are some examples of ''shorty'' aerobars? I don't want to change my position, or to make it 'very aero'. just add another position. like ITU style? thanks! |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Did a good 45 min. run this morning on the treadmill, because there were thunderstorms in Chicago.?? Then did a high intensity 20 min. ride on the trainer. I will be ringing in the new year tonight behind the bar and will be watching football and playing with the kids all day tommorow, after a good workout at the gym though. |

If your patient...bonktown.com has great deals. But they are in the "one deal at a time" business...so you have to keep checking in. Not sure how much they charge to ship to mexico though. I'll refrain from comment on the shorty or jammer aero bars since I've never used them or looked into them much. |

I'll refrain from comment on the shorty or jammer aero bars since I've never used them or looked into them much. Nashbar is good too but as with J, I don't know about shipping to Mexico. I have a set of shorty's on my bike. They can definitely make a difference in your races just by dropping into a little bit of an aero position. I have a pair of Easton Aeroforce MOD with the mounts. I go tthem on clearance at my LBS for $50 but they retail for $100. I did adjust my position to a more aero position but my bike is a roadie too. I guess I would describe my current position when riding in the drops as "aggressive." But I train almost elusively in the aero while on the road. When I am on the trainer I ride however I want. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not looking to ship to Mex. I have several places I could ship to. the first being to Houston, esp since I might be going over there soon and I could pick them up. I need a helmet urgently. (mine broke) and cleats and a clipless would be a nice too ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is the "year in review" for my training:
I have run a 5k race, 2 Oly tri's, swim leg of a 1st place Sprint relay, a half marathon, 4 mile race and my A race the Marine Corps Marathon. I t has been a tremendous first year of triathlon training and racing overall. I have placed higher than I thought I would have been able to in my first triathlons and was 5:06 away from a Boston Qualifying marathon time for my first ever marathon. Most importantly, I have an incredible family that has supported me in literally grand ways at a couple of my races and have allowed me the time to work as hard as I have. The mentor groups have been incredible support as well. Without them I could not have been remotely as successful as I have been. To those of you in your first season, you have a huge tool before you. Complete your training and listen to the experience of the mentor, ask questions in other forums and when the racing season is here you'll crush whatever goal you have now. Happy New Year!!! |

![]() krystyna47 - 2010-12-31 1:41 PM Who here trains by power on the bike? I'm thinking of getting into it... Any thoughts? I've been using a power tap for about 7 months now. I love it. I'm into all the technical stuff, so it's like a brain tease for me...LOL. But it does wonders for your workouts. If you like numbers and reaching specific goals, a power meter is awesome. But if you're the type that just likes to ride...don't really care about the numbers, or comparing one ride to another...it may not be for you. It's simply a tool. It doesn't make you faster or better unless you embrace learing how to effectively use it. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Started the year off with a brisk walk around the neighborhood with my mom. We had to stop sooner than we would've liked because she started limping and I wanted to make sure she got home. I'm going to try to get a bike ride in on my new saddle later. So excited to try out the new saddle. I'm officially signed up for the Marineland Sprint tri in May!! |
