I usually don't warm up for any long distances. I try to run reverse splits (2nd half of the race faster than the first) and know what my starting pace is (2nd half is where I push it and by then I'm plenty warm), so it feels like wasted energy to me...I have a training partner who will stretch and run 400-500m (100m sets, each progressively faster) to loosen up and stretch a nagging IT band, and that seems to work well for him.

Stay in the car with the heat blasting until right before the start.

Oh, that's probably not what you meant.

cam111 - 2011-01-26 11:17 AM Living in Boulder/Longmont (which is 6 miles N of Boulder). Austin was one of the last 70.3 races last year (and a pretty great place to visit). Here very soon, I'm looking at either Houston 70.3 or the New Orleans 70.3 as a training/prep race. Thanks! Cam

I love CO. Did a two week camping trip with my family and uncles aunts and cousins when I was about 13 since then its always been a favorite. I climbed Mt. Elbert one of my favorite things about the time I spent out there. Have you climbed any of the bigger mountains out there? Good to have you in the group!

Hey, when you do the Chicago Tri, you can warm up by riding past all the hookers on the track down the street from my house.  I mean, you're staying with us right?

Warming up before a half marathon.

-Easy jog 20-30 min, may include a few accells
-Drills and dynamic stretching
-strides

This is a triathlon website so before a triathlon, most won't let you take your bike out of transition.
-jog 10-15 min include a few accells (4x20seconds)
-swim 10-15 min include a few pickups (4x30 strokes hard/30 easy), mix stroke (breast and or back stroke), and drills. If I can't do a swim warmup, then I spend a long time swinging my arms and doing arm circles.

Thanks for the replys for my "running"(a part of triathlon) question.  I just noticed if I start off to fast, I end up burning out, so I wanted to see what others did.

Yea, the one in Galveston (Herman Memorial? - I always think of the hospital which is in Houston). I'm still looking at schedules, but that looks like the best option for me. I need to decide/commit in the next couple weeks. I'll keep you posted, C

What's everyone's weekend plans? This is my recovery week, you will see some nice training on my log next week. Tonight is a birthday party I am going to with the theme being "gold". Jenn says shes gonna try and find me a gold grill. We are going to call it an early night is the plan , bc we are doing a group ride. This might lead to my retirement, her ex bf is going be out there and he is a bit older than I, so if he out rides me, I am retiring I told her.

Friday: Pool swim, legs off day
Saturday: 2 hour group ride
Sunday: 60 min run

I've got a 90 minute bike ride tonight, Sat - I'll be doing the Big D Climb (running up 52-flights of stairs in Dallas); then do an easy run in the afternoon, Sun - 2.5 bike ride.
