Forgot to add that I believe I have my races set for spring-summer (just haven't actually paid for them yet), did pay for the USAT membership though.

I'm here, just really struggling but trying. Everyone else is so much further along I feel a little silly posting I rode 1.6 miles.

Just keep doing it. Riding 1.6 miles is better than not riding 1.6 miles.

I totally understand you---I feel that everyone is WAAAAY ahead of me too. BUT...the only way we can get there is to keep pluggin along...I'm just as shy about posting...I look at this and go "wow--they ran for more than a mile?!?!?! I can barely keep out of a walk for an eight of a mile!" Things will change as we train---soon we will be faster, stronger, and able to endure the miles.
We can do this!

Tell you what, I'll start posting my workouts for you--trust me, you'll prob'ly be farther along!
so here goes:
Today, I was not doing tri-specific training, so I basically did a 45 minute long 'workout' on my Wii fit. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it did make me sweat!
Tomorrow's plan: running--1/2 hour, I know I can barely run/jog for more than 30 seconds at a time, so I will warm up, run, then walk, then run, then walk, etc. ---Let you know tomorrow how it goes!Smile

sorry i havent been around in several days.  our household was taken over by a stomach virus.  this is day 3 for me, im feeling somewhat better, but still very very weak.  i managed to get in 3 decent workouts last week before the virus took me down.  i can only imagine how weak i will feel when i try to resume workouts.  it took all i had to walk up the stairs last night, i almost passed out trying to get my kid out of bed and changed the other day.  ive lost 8 lbs since friday, im trying to rehydrate, but eating is difficult.  i guess IF i am able to workout next week, i will treat it like a slow easy recovery week.  great....just what i needed!!!!  i cant ever remember being this sick!!!!!!!

'kay, as promised--
set the treadmill for 30 minutes--walked 3.5-4 mph for 5 minutes, then ran for 12 minutes--straight--that's the longest I have ever run without slowing down--it was a full mile....I am absolutely giddy right now....anyway, after the running, I walked for another 5 minutes (4-4.5 mph), then ran for another 5 minutes, then walked and cooled down...
Not an allstar workout compared to others I have seen, but for me--AWESOME!

Question: My husband called and said he found wetsuits for sale at our local flea market ($20.00!!); as he found one he thought would fit me, he bought it...It does fit, however, it is a very thin almost spandex-like neoprene on the arms and legs, but a full, thick neoprene(like I've seen on your average tri wetsuit...) on the torso...would this be good enough for doing a triathlon??? To me it looks like a diving wetsuit, but I really just don't know enough about them....either way, it was only $20....

I walked today for a mile.  It takes around 25 minutes.  I didn't take my timer or pedometer so I don't know exactly.  I didn't realize I had forgotten until I was half way through my route.

Been there, done that---I tend to forget stuff SO much! Unfortunately, if I notice that I forgot something before I hit the gym, I end up talking myself out of workouts--just cause I am lacking some object...bad me.
Good job on the mile! That's not a bad time rate for walking in my opinion!

I did a bike workout tonight at the gym (way cold outside here!) I ended up doing a hill workout--8.5 miles, 30 minutes, heart rate averaged about 117...

I had a solid 6 mile run yesterday; Starting to get some of my speed back, about three weeks after recovering from my surgery. I averaged about 9:30 per mile, which is right about where I was at pre-surgery. I can still tell I am not all the way back, but definitely making progress.

I'm looking forward to a 5k this Saturday. I know I won't break my PR of 24:07, but I would like to be under 27:00. I have a good friend who is right about the same speed as me (slightly faster, for now) so I hoping a little competition with him may spur me on to a better time.

I'm here Big D.D. I've been super busy with work, family in town, buying a house, getting ready to have a baby, and training for the first tri of the year that I've not checked in or logged my workouts for a while.

I have my first tri of the year this Saturday. It's a reverse so it's totally different from what we usually do. You run 5k, Bike 12 miles, swim 200m in a pool. Kinda lame but it's a tri. So here are my goals:
5k: 25 min. I want to kill the bike by taking it easier on the run.
12 mile bike: 45 minutes. This is around 18 or 19 mph. I've been really killing my workouts on the bike and feel strong. I did a training ride last weekend and got in 45 miles averaging 19 so I think I can really push it and get this goal.
200m swim: I just want to get it done under 7 minutes. There will be alot of people in the pool and I know I'm not going to be able to get in there and burn it out. 7 minutes is slow due to the amount of people in there.

I feel great and have actually dropped a few pounds over the last 3 weeks from starting up speed workouts. I don't think I've been in this kind of shape since 6 years ago when I ran a 1:18
half mary. Man I wish I could run like that again...

bscoles1 - 2011-02-18 2:04 PM I'm still here... Going strong on my marathon training, and still in 2/3 swims and 3 bike rides per week. I feel like I'm heading in the right direction, getting stronger, gaining endurance and confidence.

Gaining confidence is the biggest obstacle in this sport, nice work

FoggyGoggles - 2011-02-21 10:44 PM With 17 inches of snow hitting us overnight, I hit the treadmill at the gym after work. Got 8 miles in and it hurt! My coach had me do a 2-mile warm up followed by: mile 3 @ 8:00, mile 4 @ 7:45, mile 5 @ 7:30 and mile 6 at 7:00. The last 2 miles were a cool down at 8:00 minute mile pace. Ouch...

ok, im going to try to do some catching up here......

kgore~ NICE workout!!!  keep up the good work!  i will be interested to hear what BDD thinks of the wetsuit.  not something that i have even thought about purchasing....i might be changing my mind about that once my OWS tris get closer...ick HATE OW!!!!!

tmoran07~good luck!!!  cant wait to hear our first tri report of the season!!!!

bscoles1~glad youre getting back to normal!!  have fun with the 5k, im sure you will do better than you think you will!

rachel~keep at it, improvements will come.  they will be slow at first, but once they start you will see more and more improvement every week and will start to see yourself improve faster and faster.

foggy and BDD~i feel so sorry for you guys buried in the snow and being confined to indoor workouts Cry  did you ever get outside to ride BDD, i saw you talking about it on twitter.  its a balmy 70 degrees here and sunny, wish i could ship some of our sunshine up to you guys!

mleaverton~ you sound like me, i have my schedule set but hesitate to pay for the races yet.  although i did finally sign up for the first one coming up in march YIKES!

sorry if i forgot anyone....

today was my first workout post sickness.  felt good.  did a simple 45 min/12 mile spin and my speed was actually pretty good and kept my heartrate in check.  it was hard finding the motivation to get back at it today, but i think once i get back into my routine i will be ok.

any fun weekend workout plans???  i hope to get outside and do a long ride or maybe a run.

The brand is "Aeroskin California"...I'm reasonably sure that it is not a wetsuit ideal for racing in...

Tonight I did a mini-indoor triathlon, run by the coach I'll be training with over the next few months...It was very simple and basic: 20 minutes in the pool (fins + kickboards ok), then 20 minutes on spin bikes (changing resistance as required by coach), and then 20 minutes on the treadmill (although half of us had to get on ellipticals--not enough treadmills). In any case, I made it through it, and I was actually surprised; it wasn't easy by any stretch, but it could have been a lot harder...It was definitely a decent workout for me though!

kgore~awesome!!!!  i bet that really helped to build some confidence for you!

so this is just my runner's mentality, but i was trying to equate the effort of a sprint tri into terms of what distance race it would feel like im running.  this first sprint tri is 250yd swim, 20k bike, 5k run.  im thinking this will feel like a little more than a 10k effort to me.  do you agree???

You workouts all sound great, even getting back on track so quickly after being sick.  I struggle with that.  I'm looking forward to the first tri report and how the 5K goes.

My workout today was a 20 minute walk, 0.7 miles and 100 yard swim, about 4 minutes.  (for got my watch at the pool, again).  I've been struggling with getting to the pool at the Y but I made it today. Tomarrow, another attempt at 2 miles on the bike.
