Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. IceMan - no kidding - looking out my home office window right now and watching the wind just whip. I am going to try a run right now - was scheduled for a ride but I am going to switch it up and give a run a try outside. I just don't feel like getting on the hampster track either. However, a nice warm swim in doors tonight though should cheer me up I hope. Karen - can I come visit you in FLA - I promise I don't take up much room LOL. Have a great afternoon everyone. KC |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() razorxp - 2011-04-16 10:17 AM 1st race done! Actually felt pretty good for little training. Tim is was a odd type of race as you do a serpintine swim indoors then run outside and bike/run. This was a very hilly bike course in the wet, i hit 43mph just coasting. Too bad you had to go back up. Great run through miami of ohio campus. Ill post more when i have faster than 56kbs. Lol. Hope its nicer for you guys cold and raining here. good job! cant wait to hear about it. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mary A - 2011-04-16 6:24 PM Impressive work this weekend. I'm intimidated by you guys. Question for the group: Had an 1:30 ride today. Did ok on the ride out, but really started to feel the legs about at the turn around. Ended up getting off the bike for a stretch, clif bar, water. Then got back on. Seemed to help for about 5-10 minutes, but then was right back with the leg exhaustion. Only thing that kept me moving was 2min on, 1min off intervals. Otherwise I would have gone super slow the ride back. Was supposed to be LT bike test, but I'm on my second go round of this week of my plan. Have easy 75min bike tomorrow. What should I have done? Would you have stopped? Pushed through and keep it easy (which would have been 4-5 mph slower than normal)? Done the intervals like i did to keep some muscular work? i know exactly what you are going thru. today i rode 52 miles and after 25 i felt good. i thought i would make 50 with no problem and then i hit some sort of wall before mile 30. i got off the bike and stretched and i felt good again- got back on the bike and within 5 minutes i felt the same as i did before i stopped. it was mentally tough to stay on the bike but i kept focusing on spinning. i went slower than i would have liked and it hurt more but i made sure i just kept spinning and not trying to push too hard. as long as you got some work in then it was a productive ride. like my buddy that rode with me said "every ride cant be great- some days you have it and some days you dont." |

Glad I'm not the only one. Sounds like you got some good work in, either way! Another ride today, 75 min. Planning on going slower this time. Scott-- Yeah, I did the bike LT two weeks ago and wasn't planning on doing it yesterday. But because I knew I was "supposed" to go hard according to my plan, i didn't want to wimp out and just spin easy. Maybe I made the wrong choice...or maybe I picked the wrong plan! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Told you guys I would fit right in. Just got back from the Dr and was prescribed Anti-biotics for a sinus infection. You should get used to seeing this though as for the past year it seems I can never get fully well. Either bronchitis or sinusistis. Oh well, they say I am doing everything I can including allergy shots hopefully once it gets warmer I will get some relief. Related to this I have noticed that I have days when I feel pretty good and then after swimming I get really stuffy. I am beginning to think there is a correlation that I didn't see until recently. This is my second tri season and I started swimming more consistently last May. I have also noticed my sinus and bronchitis issues really upticked then as well. I've always struggled with this but this past year has been extremely frustrating. Any suggestions? I do sinus rinses morning and night. Will try nose clips but I am not sure how much I will like that since I blow out through my nose while swimming. Well taking today off to try and give my body a chance to get well, plus I did run 9 miles yesterday and recovery doesn't seem like a bad idea either. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Brian: hope your daughter is ok!! How did the long ride go?
Tim: thanks for helping out the group with nutrituion! Only got passed by 3 people on the bike so not too bad considering I was only able to avg 18ish.. The course was very tough for me espcially since it was only my 2nd outside ride. I also didn't want to push too hard as I had yet to do a good brick. Great run, I think you should start the race with your buddy and see how long you can keep his pace!! jk. I know people that have tried that though, never a good idea. I also would not recommend riding KC's route out of the garage! lol (sorry kc)
Scott: You are so right about tris being several disciplines, For me the training part is the easiest to do, staying healthy is by far the hardest! Hope the indoor Ct ride went well, that is WAY too cold for me to ride also
JenD, that is a great way to learn by others mistakes by watching a race. Have a great ride tomorrow! Mary: I'm alittle lost were you supposed to do a 1:30 threashold ride? if so were intervals meant to be mixed in? Caleb:
Deb: I hate it when them damn guys slow you down.. lol I am with you and will not do a long race without solids, my new favorite is the "bonk busters" bars. They are great and loaded with good nutrition.
Jason: Did you practice your race day nutrition on the 52 mile bike? A day off may be just what you need to get refreshed. Also can you put your race in your race log so we can all see it. Charlie: we were supposed to kick our nickname for this session, please don't bring bad germs to the group! LOL I have terrible allegies also and I use rx rhinocourt aqua noise spray and it works GREAT after a few days!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello group, I thought my race would be the most exciting thing this weekend! well driving a 45' camper in 35mph winds with 50+ gust makes for a long 3 hour drive, and of course they were cross winds not head or tail wind. Made it home safe but did not enjoy the drive :-(. They posted our race results and for my "massive" training I was quite happy to be fairly close to the lead pack. Heck 10mins to win AG, 7mins for top 3. For overall there were some fast young ag's that run 4mm so I have NO chance to ever hang with them. Doing this race with hills make me wonder what in the heck I am doing a HIM in under a month with a ton of hills!! what was I thinking!! lol
So how was your training? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. Coach - I am very proud of that record because I believe it will never be broken LOL - so you can keep referring to it forever if you wish Charlie - I don't have allergies so I can not relate - sorry. Jen - What is the pic you are trying to post? Here is how you post - 1st - type your message, then at the bottom of your mesage before you post you will see Attach a file after posting, check that box, then submit. You will then go through the process of browsing for your picture, find it, load it and post it. However, as Deb mentioned, the picture can only be a maximum of 100 kb in size. I think that is where you are having the problem. If you have to, resize your pic using microsoft office picture manager or some other software, save it and then you will be able to post it. OK - so I ran and swam today after a day off yesterday and it was ok. I also had a very nice visit with my Mom and Dad who just got home from Panama City Beach where they spend the winter. They asked me if I will be coming down to do the IM in Panama City Beach sometime so they can watch me? Interesting question. Caleb - hope you had a great time at your competition today. Have a great night team and good luck this week. KC

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Coach - nice work! Any advice on kicking when you swim. For some reason I think I need to figure out a better way to sync my kick with what the rest of my body is doing - I think I need some under water video - Hey, there I go thinking to much again LOL. Have a great week Coach. KC Edited by kcgolf 2011-04-17 8:02 PM |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great Race Coach. Glad you made it home safe.As far as the photo thing. I was trying to post a map of my ride but the photo is more then 100kb. I couldnt figure out how to resize the photo on my Mac so I'll wait till I get to work. It's a beautiful ride. Today we did 45miles most of the ride is climbing...hills hills and more hills. It's a challenge but so much fun. Plus I increased my average speed...2weeks ago it was 11mph and today it's was 15mph. Stoked! I'm feeling pumped.I hope everyone else had a great training day. |

For some reason I think I need to figure out a better way to sync my kick with what the rest of my body is doing - I think I need some under water video - Hey, there I go thinking to much again LOL. Have a great week Coach. KC
I try to kick as little as possible as all it does it burn up your energy. I try to do a flutter kick so I kick about half as much as a true swimmer. With a wet suit I can kick about 1/3 of my normal kicking style since my butt stays up instead of sinking. Kicking actually provides less propulsion as you would thing. For proof just do a hard lap normal then a hard lap with a swim buoy with no kicking then one just kicking. Ill bet you will be sucking wind on the kicking set and slow as heck, buoy will be close to your main set. Don't forget were doing tri's not swimming, so blow your arms up on the swim its the last time you will use them. lol Edited by razorxp 2011-04-17 8:38 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Coach. I know I am not looking for propulsion but I also know that the kick should sync with the pull and body rotation. I am betting my endurance is suffering because I am kicking way to much for sure or not efficiently enough anyway. Jen - nice biking I am a bit depressed right now - I am probably 45 days away from an open water swim. I will be swimming in lake erie (my sisters lives on the lake) and I don't want to wait that long. I also want a race soon as well. I may have to look south and plan a road trip. Have a great night. If you find a race in the south I will be there. I get to have my 1st in the rev3 knoxville race in May. So happy it should be wetsuit legal... Are you on the CAN side or US of lake erie? |

LOL I have terrible allegies also and I use rx rhinocourt aqua noise spray and it works GREAT after a few days!! I am on a Nasal Steroid as well. I really am hopeful that the nose clip will help. It seems to coincidental that when I started swimming a lot my sinus symptoms went into high gear. I'll ask my Doc about that one as it may be time to switch things up as well. Tough season so far here, my whole family has gotten sick as well as many friends in the area. At least this time I have company in my misery. |

Seriously though, just take care of yourself and trust the doctors. I do have a question, are you swimming in a chlorine pool? Do you have access to a salt water pool? You never know, could be worth a try? Good luck. KC |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So when I said shut it down for taper on Saturday my body must have misunderstood me because I am just getting out of bed for the first time this morning since Saturday night. I got the worst case of stomach flu I have ever had. Threw up 10 times yesterday. Still haven't been able to eat anything. I feel a little better now but we'll see. Hopefully this doesn't affect me too much for my race on April 30. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys - Brian here. I will answer to Peter, but not quickly. My last name is Petersson. A high school teacher called me Peter Brianson for most of 9th grade. I had a great brick ride/run yesterday. 20 mph winds made me not want to even start. So, I set a course that had me go 15 miles straight into the wind. Then, head with the wind for a long way - going close to 19.5 miles the next hour. It was a confidence building ride, being my first long one (2.5 hrs) without a partner. Followed up with run. my legs were used to moving fast, so I ran a 7:50 pace for 3+ miles without really trying to push. Just kept moving at a comfy pace and was surprised when I finished my course and saw the time. Now I get to enjoy a planned rest day |
