I finally got some points in this week -- 31 degrees and winds gusting to 23 mph this evening. Running into the wind was not fun, but it wasn't bad with the wind at my back.

We have ice in our forecast tomorrow. Yippee. Tongue out

Heavy snow + cold = not a single soul on a bike this morning (usually I pass at least one or two every couple of blocks). And of course this got me many, many points.

People who saw me carrying around a bike helmet in class looked at me like I was crazy. Of course they asked how the ride was with this grin on their faces expecting me to say that it royally sucked and that I was freezing cold. But instead I enthusiastically told em that I LOVE biking in the snow and that it was absolutely amazing. That shut em up. Haha!

Not gonna lie, it was a bit scary at first because the roads hadn't been plowed often enough and my face got a little chilly on the downhills (I think I even got a brain freeze). But other than that, it wasn't any different from the other cold days.

I love this challenge!

englam - 2011-11-29 11:34 AM Thank goodness for this challenge. Before this I had to be satisfied with leaving the house at the same time  my wife went to work and then running 37  miles to her job before she got off in 8 hours. I made it with 15 minutes to spare and was freezing because I hadn't brought a key for her vehicle. Thank you Crappy Weather challenge for focusing and channelling my suffering.lol

You are a beast!

Chillly <14F this morning so got a few points. Snow storm coming in this weekend, but I think it will be after Saturdays long run. I don't mind missing out on the extra points, don't feel like fighting the snow for 18 miles.

If you are gonna miss the snow, so be it, but get up at 4:00 am and catch the cold weather. It was 6 degrees this morning and I told the wife I should go out to run. She said go for it, you got a few minutes before work. But I hesitated.....I should of just done it. lol. There is a video on my profile that about sums up my feelings about extreme living! . Check it and good luck team member!!!

Nice video. Great philosophy.

Earned points in the daylight today -- 3.25 miles in 33 degrees/14 mph winds. Overcast, so it was cold. I miss the sun.

So here's a question I never thought to ask - I went to an outdoor Christmas concert tonight. We were out there for almost 2 hours; temperature was -3 degrees (celcius) and the wind was 22km/h.  Can I claim the points? (I've put them in the spreadsheet, but if the answer is no, I'll take them out).  I'm not sure if bouncing in place counts as a "physical activity outside".

Thoughts?

I ran 37 miles to my wifes work. We left the driveway at the same time. Her in the car and me on foot. Took me 7 hrs 45 minutes.

Awesome!

I won't be running 37 miles today or tomorrow, but here's the "fitness forecast" for my area. Looks like points!

Wow! Great job. Must have been slippery too with the snow we got.

Hi. I carry a 100 oz camelbak. On that day I took 1 gel and water/HEED mix. Also had two CLIF bars. I have now moved on to homemade energy bars that I found on NoMeatAthlete.com.  Also, I have begun using Infinit formula for fuel. Now I just eat a bar before I leave and the rest is Infinit. It works even better than HEED and I can plod along pretty consistantly without my energy going up and down, which Gels tend to do to me. Mostly I train to keep my HR at 150, as to burn fat on the long runs. Prior hydration and sheer maddening will power keep me going. It also snow/sleet most of that day. No Sun and about a 10 mph switching head and tail wind. It was quite an emotional roller coaster. But I was happy when I hit the parking lot of her work....until I realized I didn't have a key.lol.

Major points for me this afternoon!

48 minutes of running

23 degrees

Wind:
From N at 21mph gusting to 27mph

Light snow.

Felt like 8 degrees out there, according to weather.com. I ran into the wind for the first mile and I thought I might lose my fingers, even with two pairs of gloves on. Then I turned to run the next two miles with the wind at my back. Feeling started coming back into my fingers, and the pain was immense. When I had to turn back to run another mile, my fingers had feeling again and stayed fairly warm.

Should I have run with the wind at my back to begin with? Three pairs of gloves? Different gloves? (The outer gloves are UA Cold Gear.)

Everything else stayed toasty. My neck gaiter worked wonderfully. My lungs feel great.

I'm psyched. Can you tell? lol

Mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves. I have a pair of Nike running mittens that are thin but work great.

I like running into the wind first to get it over while I have more energy.

Maintenance mode.  After the cancellation of Tuscobia 3 weeks ago I cycled way back on my ramp up of mileage, I am pulling out.  Could finish but at what cost for the rest of this prep season for next year.  50K will have to wait for me.

Still getting points but at a lesser pace.

GO ENGLAM!!!!!!
