Thanks guys! I got 6.6 miles in this morning.  I do like the idea of some similar type of everybody runs or bikes or something for Super Bowl Sunday...

I ate breakfast when the dogs got up the first time (6ish) and then when I got up the second time (7:45 ish), I put my running gear on immediately.  I walked the dogs down the driveway to get the paper and then headed out for a run.  Worked really well...

Hello everyone, Daniel here.

I know it has been a while - sorry.  My training has been strong.  Work has been crazy!  Working with my wife to reinvent herself after losing her career.

Ran the first ever Chicago Winter Half Marathon today.  It was fun but crazy!  It was very windy, incredibly icy and wind chills were in the 10 degree range.  The temperature was tolerable but the wind was frustrating.  I ran the Galloway run walk method.  Run 5 minutes/Walk 1 minute keep repeating.  I carry a Galloway simple run/walk computer that beeps and vibrates on any cycle you want.  I use my Polar (FT60) HR Monitor.  I run no higher than mid zone three.  I did well but was slow - 11:15 minute miles.  I felt comfortable but slowed down because of footing.  A little sore but not bad.  I burned over 2700 calories!

Feels good to get that distance under my belt in January.  I think I will just get comfortable slowing down and being safe.  It is about the journey.

Hope everyone is well...  Daniel

i did make it to masters practice yesterday afternoon after all my whining, haha!  i'm definitely more of a morning workout person...  get it done and you have the whole day ahead of you!  those late afternoon workouts are tough to motivate for!  but glad i did!!  my legs are feeling a bit tired today and i have a 6 mile run planned with a friend later.  it might be more of a "start together" and we meet back up at the end kind of run, haha!

CONGRATS DANIEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who can run a half in the winter is a winner in my book!!!! Pace never matters, you are faster and better than 99% of people your age and you are not on the couch!!! Way to tough it out in less than ideal conditions. I would suggest you write a race report. You can do this here on BT through the race log. By writing a report you will be able to write down how you prepared, how the race started, things that went well, things you would do differently, comments about the course and how you felt when you finished. This will help others who read your report and will help you remember key points should you decide to race this course again. I always find reading others race reports helpful before I do a race.

Looks like another beautiful day in New England

Hi everybody!

That's great, Daniel! What a wonderful accomplishment.

And Kristen, kudos to you for telling us your goal for the day.

Thanks to everybody for the advice about the sports watches -- I didn't know there was an app on the iPhone; I just got one for Christmas and it took me practically a whole weekend to figure out how to work the basics. I'll have to check out that bike app.

So, I haven't posted since early last week but I'm happy to report I was down 3.2 pounds at my Weight Watchers meeting Thursday night. I chalk it up to the exercise and carefully keeping track of what I was eating.

My issue at the end of the week was, I think, not eating and drinking enough and feeling really wiped out. Not to mention a late night work gig Thursday that involved the '80s band The English Beat (remember them, they were awesome!).

I'm headed to the grocery store now to restock the fridge. Then, I'll be heading into the Y (yeah!) before working the night shift. (Ugh!) I'm having a "do-over" of Week 4 of my training plan since last week was kind of a disaster.

I totally remember English Beat and they were/are great!  Nice job on the weight loss this week, Nancy!!

Thanks for the kind words, Marianne!  I was totally over-thinking/stressing (I do this a lot in life!) about today's 6 mile run with my friend...  It actually went really well.  It was great to have the company during my run.  I definitely came out of my comfort zone a little bit b/c I didn't want to feel like I was slowing her down, but I'm glad I did!  I typically run a 10:30-11/mile during my long training runs and we averaged a 9:49 pace for our 6 miles.  I don't think I ever could have done that if I were running on my own!  The run felt great and I'm still able to stand on my legs, so that's a good sign, haha!

Good for you chr15, getting back in the swing of things!! Monday morning weigh-in: I am down 2#. Rest day from training today as my legs are really tired. I planned out the rest of my week's workouts and hoping to get them all done (4 runs, 2 bikes, 2 weights, 1 swim, 1 yoga). I Have to pay better attention to my water intake today. Happy Monday to all

I managed my 50mile ride on saturday and a short run yesterday and I am feeling more motivated than i have for tha last year thanks, partly in thanks to being accountable here and to you guys thanks

The ride was hard as I'd imagined, it's been a long time since I went that far. It was chilly damp and hilly and, rookie mistake, i didn't take any drinks or food... I bonked hard at 40 miles, and limped the last 10 miles before getting picked up 5 miles from home, so that I didn't have to take in the last climb.

nice weekend of training, chris!!  way to get the 50 mile ride in!  that seems so long to me - my longest ride is 14 miles on the bike!!  Embarassed

Woo Hoo Chris. You and I were riding the same distance on Saturday. You learn a lesson on each ride. You wont forget food again. I brought jellybeans but they froze...so it was like having hard candy!!!Learned not to take them on a winter ride unless I like hard candy!!! Dont have much of a choice when thats all you have!!! It was a great ride for me. I have never gone that far in January. I am seriously considering trying to do the remainder of my winter bikes outside as long as we have no snow!!! SO thats 3x/week outside...we shall see

Nice job on the weight loss Erin. Anyone else have any news???? Its Monday. I am only down 1 pound;(

So for the Foxboro road race on February 19th....

I don't have much news.  I ran and biked this weekend but had no time to do anything yesterday.  I am running after the kids get on the bus today.  I haven't gotten on the scale because I am afraid of it.  I should face the fear and get on it tomorrow.  Ick.

I'm also cutting back on my caffeine (cause my doctor is making me).  Anyone else as dependent on it as I am?  I usually drink 1-2 pots of coffee a day and about 1 liter of Diet Coke a day.  I am down to 32 ounces of coffee a day now.  I am renewing the water challenge and hopefully I will be able to sleep better.  We'll see!

Edited cause I put Diet Cole instead of Diet Coke.
