Fortunately my home is a gym, so I could still do lots of stuff. Tubbing workouts are a good option, just 15 minutes can kick your butt and helps with the high elbow for the swim. |

Member 1293 Pearland,Tx | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Originally posted by Baowolf 4 min walk 1 min jog towards the end of that first week or start of the next week, then after 2-3 days, 3 min walk 2 min jog, then 2-3 days 3 min jog 2 min walk, then the next week 4 min jog 1 min walk for 2-3 days then full jog. You have to play it by ear according to your body, but something like that. Some recover quicker than others. Feel free to work the swim hard and the bike medium for the next 2 weeks. You could swim 4 days a week If you want for the next 2 weeks to keep your hours of training up. Steve Currently doing the above i am now on my week 2, i felt great doing 2min jog/3min walk. My objective is recover my run the safest at the earliest time possible. My question is would it be ok if i do my 1 hr bike and 1 hr. run walk on the same day??? not a brick. Thanks Again Carl Edited by strykergt 2014-01-29 4:39 PM |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Car, most of it is feel, so if the legs are ok, then go for it. Yes I would avoid doing it as a brick. If you are bouncing back faster than the above plan you can progress through the sequence faster, just don't do any real intensity for a bit yet. |

Happy Birthday Mike! For my 47th, I rode my bike 47 miles, ran 4.7 miles and swam 470 yards (I ran out of time)...I also ate 47 strawberries and did some other foolishness. |

Member 183 Alexandria, Virginia | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Linda, I live in Northern VA, Alexandria. Weather on Friday for my run was 23F and I surprisingly didn't get cold like I thought I would! I had 3 layers up top (cold weather nike compression, a thermal shirt, and a track jacket), 2 running tights on my legs, and a balaklava. halfway through thru the run I was actally hot! Thanks everyone for pushing me to try running in cold weather. I dont have Steve's tolerance for cold so anything under 32F is cold for me. After doing it I'm definitely open to running in the cold more often! I started off faster than I'd wanted because I was trying to get warm, but it was a good run: 2.93 mi at 8:58 pace. Running on the icy, snow-packed sidewalk felt a lot like trail running: slows you down, picking lines, and works on your foot stability/ankles etc, which is a good thing! This weekend I plan on putting in a longer run to build for my HM. Run on Sat was warmer, around 29, so I took off a layer up top, and a slower pace at 10.02 min/mi. Monday was 44 but wind was over 10 mph so I definitely underestimated the wind chill; I felt the coldest out of the three! 3.95 mi at 8:47 pace. I followed that with a 2-mile walk with my puppy. Unforunately I've had a stiff neck that's just subsiding, so I haven't done any since (I am an excusemachine). I actually like running in the cold now! Crazy what a weekend and a team of motivators can do! Pink socks - good to hear RNR HM is a party. Crowded athletic events aren't my fave, but I do love parties! Carol, all I do is talk to myself when I swim, bike, and run.So you're good. Mike, I feel you on the back spasms. Even through I stayed fit all through high school I had to visit a physical therapist in college for back spasms (weak lower back muscles/core put pressure on vertebrae). Core workouts for me are as important as ever, but luckily, 12 or so years later, I haven't had anything serious as long as I keep working at it. I'm also a fan of Adamo saddles. I raced on both a Breakaway and a Podium model in 2013. I only use em for tri positions, though, as I use a regular road saddle when my seat angle isn't as steep (a Ritchey Streem carbon). Saddles are very personal, though. I'd like to try a Dash Tri saddle at one point in my life. Jay, when I'm stuck at home I like popping in a P90x (or similar video) workout into the DVD player. Keeps me active, and even the 15-minute ab ripper ones are short but sweet! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Yes Happy Birthday, we are 2 months apart in age. Just a few more years to an easier age group for races 8). That is my Kona qualifying strategy, I figure at age 75 I will be the only one in the race and just have to finish it to qualify. 10/26/14 HIM, 12/4/14 Mary, 7/15 IM ? Ya that's not a problem. The only thing is you are going to have to modify your HIM plan to be run heavy. So in your HIM training have your long run be 9/22= 20 miles, 9/29= 12 miles, 10/ 6= 20 mile run, then taper to HIM (10/26) you will be recovered in 2 weeks, (11/9ish = 20 mile run) 11/17ish 16 mile, 11/24 12 m, 11/31 8 miles 12/4 race. Take 1 week of only walking 2 weeks of mostly walk to jog (moderate swim, moderate (low intenisity high cadence) bike, then if you start rebuilding your base in January you can have a solid 6 month build to your IM. You will crush the run on your HIM, but your bike and swim may pay a bit for the heavy run focus. Doable. The HIM will actually be the trickiest to balance training for so that you come into the Mary fully run trained. Then you have plenty of time to build for the IM. Fun workout for me today, 4x 9:00 repeats at easy pace followed by 2x mile repeats at 7:15 pace. Ug starting LT repeats after 4.5 miles of running was rough. At least I should be used to the thin air again by Sunday. Edited by Baowolf 2014-01-29 8:08 PM |

Member 1293 Pearland,Tx | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Steve Thanks for figuring out the possibility, IMTX Is actually 5/7/2015, meaning after the Mary i exactly only have 4 months after recovery to prepare for IM. I am afraid 4 months wont be enough for a first timer. Oh well theres plenty of Marys around but not enough WTC IMs. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) 4 months is tight, but coming off the HIM and Mary, is possible if you don't drop too much fitness in the mary recovery. I don't know how fast you bounce back from stuff. I personally wouldn't want to cut it quite that close for a first IM. But, if you hit the run as a half mary you would be in a really nice place to shift into IM training. Just a thought. Bouncing back from a HM is much easier more like a week than 3-4 weeks. |

Veteran 439 Dartmouth, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Got my 30 minute trainer ride in today; no sign of my son on my way down the stairs My hectic work schedule appears to be heading into a little more chaos at my new place; I won't be able to win a day shift bid this round so I'm going to win an evening bid. I spoke with the individual that is responsibl for putting up the bids and was told I should win one a day bid next round. So, I'll be days 2 weeks, evenings 2 weeks, and hopefully days after that. Only downside to this is that I'm finally getting used to 4AM wakeup time like Joe. Edit: Happy Belated Bday Mike! Edited by medeiros13 2014-01-30 4:40 AM |

Work + cold weather has put a damper on things workout wise for me the last couple days. Feeling sluggish, and really need to get some blood circulating today in something other than my fingers on the keyboard! |

It's a daily battle for me every cold am. My bed is like a quicksand. Will the weather be a lot better on Mar? Happy Training Everyone!!!!! |

Extreme Veteran 1106 , Connecticut | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Still here - enjoying all the posts - Happy Birthday Mike! Any chance you are going to the Expo in Boston? I work part-time and have no excuses, yet am having a hard time getting workouts in. Driving my kids around to all their activities and doctor appointments (daughter has RA - lots of doctor visits for treatments ) REALLY respect those of you getting up at 4am - you are champions. All the cold weather talk is inspiring me a little to get out there, but don't have all the clothes. Need to do 20 more mins running and 38 mins on stationary bike to do more than I've done the last few weeks. Just trying to keep numbers going up. Sprint plan starts March 1!! Mitzi |

Expert 1608 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Carl, things usually warm up a bit in March, but I've also seen it snow then. Ha, yes that's Texas weather for ya! Mitzi, you may be part time on a paid job, but by the time you add in the unpaid jobs you are doing, you are probably working overtime! My work is also part time, with peaks and valleys, but usually flexible. So I take on other things (FIL doctor shuttle, church volunteer stuff, most of the household stuff, etc.). None of those things are on regular schedules. A blessing most of the time to have the flexibility that I would not trade for, but the ups and downs can be a challenge. Yes, boundaries are needed! So did 1/2 mile walk, then 4 X quarter mile jog/walk, and a walk back home. Pain was pretty much nonexiststant at first, then started back up about midway through. Stretched and rolled afterwards, but now limping again just walking. I can rest it and get it feeling better, but every time I try again the cycle repeats. At this point I don't know what is "normal" recovery type pain as I stretch/stress the arch vs. am I just reinjuring it every time. So finally schedule an appt. with an ART practitioner for next Thursday. Wish me luck and good insurance coverage ! |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Quick checkin. Have done no running because it's been too cold and icy and I don't trust drivers to not hit me. At least I've been hitting the bike trainer some. And core exercises. Also, just back from packet stuffing for Tally marathon. Happy Belated BD, Mike!!! Carol, so sorry about the PF issues. It's so tricky. Sometimes mine hurts so bad and then, if I continue, it may go away (like the mary). And then sometimes, it continues to hurt and hurt. So glad you have an appt. Really hope it helps. Mitzi, don't say that you work ONLY part-time. You have kids and that is more of a job than any job. I only have one child and have a hubby that helps tremendously with everything (taxi-ing for son, cooking, cleaning, etc.) and I still 'bout can't handle it when hubby is out of town and it's only me. Juggling everything is hard. Ok, may be a few days before I check in again. Baseball all day Saturday and race volunteering Sunday. Then I put on my taxi hat for son. Really gonna try to get in some runs now that our temps are heating up some. Good Training Everyone! |
