Pro 3906 Libertyville, IL | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed JChristoff - 2007-08-29 10:07 AM Let me rephrase. You getting excited and anxious to get out there? I still get pre-race jitters... but again this is only year two for me being fully involved in the sport and I still am at the smaller scale of things when you look at the spectrum of the sport. It has to be an amazing feeling to know you are ready to do an Ironman. I am definately rooting for you and will be waiting for the results. Do you know if they are webcasting this like they did IM KY? There is anticipation to get to race day cuz it will be scary/emotional/amazing all in one package. There is 'can we get it over already?' after a long summer (actually, kinda two years building up to be able to pull it off) working on a structured plan vs just running or biking for fun. There is fatigue at levels I dont know I have known ever that just may take a few weeks to unwind in the aftermath. There is also pride in that no matter what happens race day that I was able to put forth a solid summer of training, kick some arse in some smaller distance races and balance being a husband and dad. Dunno, just lots of stuff that I get lots of time to think about training. I would say I am relatively calm right now and will just take it as it comes. I dont think that will be the case as I wade in Lake Monona with 2399 or whatever it is sets of flailing arms and legs but I hope I have done enough to prep for something of this magnitude and I will keep towards the back and outside as my swim pace will be easy and comfy for me. They do have a webcast for the event, so look for the big donkey on the chest. There are actually five from my 'team' doing it, so should be good times.

Pro 3906 Libertyville, IL | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed KenD - 2007-08-29 10:24 AM Joe - do you have any predictions for your times? Hell, I get anxious/excited for someone I know doing an Ironman. Heh, this is kinda funny and I go back and forth on this. Mr Tapir in my blog outted me with a sub 12 but I personally also realize that tons can happen during the day and weather is often a big factor at MOO. If its over 75ish, it could be a longer day for me since I sweat like crazy. I have had some good training meltdowns that have helped refine hydration/nutrition which is key in going long, but my history has had a lot of dehydration issues. The cooler the better for me, but my dumb azz just needs to drink lots. Anywho, the public goals are: 1. First and most important to finish. I have trained aggressively and think I have the ability to do well under 17, but shat happens. 2. Sub 12. Not as important as one, but think this is possible based on: 1:40 swim 6-6:10 on the bike 4 hr mary 10-20 minutes might be a bit lean on transition time, but thats what I am going with. Cold and rainy day, that will likely up the ante a bit. I do feel south of 12 is attainable and that the times are generously within reach, but having never done the distance it is tough to say how I will respond. I have contingency plans in case the shat hits the fan on most things (carrying 400 tubes for example) and also some super secret goals on what I would like to accomplish in each sport beyond the 12 hour mark, but those are bound on uncertain optimism in never doing the event. We shall see. I hope to do y'all proud! |

Pro 4827 McKinney, TX | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed I finally got my ranking straightened out with USA Triathlon. I am now ranked. When I looked before, I was never listed. I went thru the chain of contacting the race director then the race result company before I figured out the issue. They reported my USAT # wrong. One email to USATriathlon and I'm now ranked! Not very high, but I'm still ranked. Score 59.55343 AG 40-44 5171/6133 Nationally 84.3% AG 40-44 519/695 Regionally 74.7% |

Pro 4827 McKinney, TX | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed Still $40 for the year. This will help with my motivation next spring. Since I'll only have three tri's this year, I will feel the need to do at least one more in the spring to get my moneys worth out of it. And once I do one, I'll be hooked for another year! |

Elite 4504 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed Ken, I think you are the only one in a warm enough climate to continue water based sports. We have one more tri this season in the Ohio area which is part of the Toyota Challenge but that's it. Our fall running season starts in October with the Columbus Half&mary goes dead and wakes back up in March (early spring) with another Half&Mary race in April. Predictions Swim .93 - 1 mile: 30-35 min. (avg 1:49 - 2:02/100) T1: 2 min. Bike 25 mile: 1:15 - 1:26 (avg. 20 - 17.44 mph) T2: 2 min. Run 6.2 mile: 48-54 min. (avg 7:44 - 8:42/mi) Total: 2:37 - 2:59 The swim and run are calculated using my training averages... It's not like I am going to pull out a 6:00 mile from no where or swim 1:00 hundreds. I am comfortable with the calculations... The only concern is if the bike is super hard the run will suffer. The hardest part of this calculation is the bike. I haven't road that route in 2 years and since it is 2 hours away from home by car I didn't train on it this season so I don't know how my body will fare. It is more hilly than what is around here so I hope/think I can keep up to my average speed from training... I am generally hoping for anything under 3 hrs. Thoughts? |

If you have it in the tank push the 5k to anerobic levels and go. Just be sure to note that you probably do not need as much fuel and hydration as you think. You could probably do the event with 1 gel and 1 bottle of fluids just fine. |

Pro 4827 McKinney, TX | Subject: RE: jszat's group- closed <3 hr Oly sounds great to me. As far as the bike time goes, trying to figure out how the hills on a particular course will affect you is hard to do with any accuracy. I was able to ride the course I'm racing on last weekend and then I estimated conservatively. |

Are you to the point where the bike to run doesnt really bother your legs? I think I can actually run faster off the bike now than from a cold on start. Good luck to both of ya. Sorry I have been AWOL but there was that race thingy and my BT time had been lower. |

Well, I used to think the saying that the training is tougher than the race was some BS cliche, but between having a nice two week taper and the energy of the crowds, I gotta say the race felt awesome relative to some of the back to back to back build days. I think my long training day was only like 7 hours. |

You do anything with salt tabs for heat like that? Maybe I am just a fair weather nancy, but I still popped electrolyte tabs like candy on Sunday. Probably took about 20 over the day. Same with gels. The burger I ordered after the race at a pub wasnt gonna happen. Did do a half pint of stout though |

I'm normally running/riding in 95+ weather with a heat index of 100+. So far, gatorade, gels, and bananas have done me well. I'm currently researching the electrolytes for longer distances but haven't needed them yet. |
