Congratulations on your scholarship, Jeni!!

And, Hector, yeah, enjoy your temps... they are forecasting snow for Monday night - ugh! Not that I don't like snow... but maybe in mid-December.

Thanks! And yea Hector... It was 29 degrees yesterday morning when I got the kids out the door for school!

Not sure if I'm ready for winter. This will be my first year training during the winter months. I think I'm set up for it, but I would much rather be too hot working out than too cold.

HCS5QA - 2007-11-01 10:29 AM Haven't decided if it's going to be 1200m at the pool or 3-5 miles at lunch. I'll figure it out then.
I'll decide for you.... Do both.

hehe you just called the hard core dude.... hehe...

Now can someone kick me out of here...I need to get lunch!

No lunches allowed in BT. Only workouts.

Or rather... lunches only while working out. We don't want someone to keel over from no nutrition!

brynn - 2007-11-01 5:23 PM  I have only done 1 tri too, and 2 dus (all this past summer). I'm glad there is someone here who hates the water as much as I do.

MORNING KIDS!!!  Heh...I leave the TWSNBN thread at page 4, and wake up to page 9!!!

Happy Friday!

Hey Brynn, used to be TOTALLY freaked out in the water.  It took a LOT of personal psychobabble and time in the pool AND open water to get over it...I'm o.k. with it now, just not really fast.  Now I enjoy swimming...I consider it a challenge to try to improve my swim speed.  I'm trying to consistently swim below 2 min/100 yds.  Since Spokes just posted his intro, I'll post mine again for his benefit:

I guess compared to some of you, I'm a BT veteran.  I've been hanging around here for several years and have done several triathlons, so I guess I no longer qualify as a 'beginner,' but hey...like I said...the BT community is GREAT!

I did my 1st triathlon 3 years ago, it took me almost half an hour to swim 700 yds (I grabbed a float about halfway out during the swim and hung out with the lifeguard...we chatted for a while ).  I committed myself to spending much more time in the pool after that.

I've been a biker most of my life, but I'm a poser now.  I don't train NEAR as much as I should, but have been VERY lucky with being able to post some 20 mph rides after little to no training.  I'm a slacker...

I've run several marathons, but have never been able to break the elusive 4 hour mark...have gotten close (4:07), and I'm still trying!

What's up this season?  Half marathon in January, half ironman AND marathon in June...THAT'S why I'm here doing this challenge...I need to get my lazy butt out of bed and train.  Challenges are THE BEST motivation.

Look forward to 'meeting' all my new teammates...my wife laughs about all my 'cyberfriends,' but I just got her hooked...she did her first tri last summer, and her first half marathon this fall...she doesn't blog much though...she's not addicted like me...

We all need to be proud of Spokes...he's gone from a 'runner hater' to a potential sub-4 marathoner!

Have a great day all...I'm gonna see how much more catch-up I can do on the TWSNBN thread, before I have to leave to go workout...

wemoon - 2007-11-01 7:47 PM I got my bike in today, it felt great! Tomorrow I will probably do nothing. Usually I take Fridays off because they are one of my busiest days. I have a speech I have to do at an awards banquet tomorrow. I won a scholar award for a paper I wrote and have to now talk about my paper before I can claim my prize money. My internet is running horribly. I have no idea what is going on, but it is me off! So, I can't post as much as I would like to because it takes ten years to load a page

Congrats Jeni!!!  That's an accomplishment!

OK, I have to get off of here for now. I need to go do last minute studying for my Stats test and then get ready for the big day. I've been able to get around to a few peoples training logs and post to them and I'll keep trying to hit a few people each day. I am so excited to be a part of this team!

barqhead - 2007-11-01 6:30 PM I'm a lousy runner. Maybe you guys can help me out with pointers. I'm trying to start running again next week after not running for five weeks to heal my right hip flexor. I could really rock some aqua-bike events.
I always say "I hate running." But I don't think that I hate it, as much as: 1) I don't do it often enough to really get the hang of it. 2) I don't know how to do it properly. As a result, my knee starts to hurt. Then, I favor the knee, which makes my ankle or hip start to hurt. I probably need to make more of a committent to "running." Instead, I tend to avoid it.... Aqua-bike!!!! Now you're talking. (Of couse, we're back to the issue of how I avoid running....) Dee

O.K. I'll be the father figure this morning (not in a George Michael type of way...ewww)...

As some of us start ramping up our running, let's do it SAFELY.  The usual recommendation is to increase your running by no more than 10% a week, so for example, if you ran a total of 10 miles this week, try for 11 next week, so try and plan your schedule accordingly...it's only a recommendation, but everyone run smart...your body will usually let you know if you're ramping up too much...

I had serious ITB when I started running again 4 years ago...thought I was still 19 ...put me out of running for almost 2 1/2 weeks.  Run safe guys!  Warm up with a walk or slow jog until your heart rate comes down and stretch AFTER your run...I'll post a link to a stretching website later today...

I REALLY need to go run!  Ta ta...

Good morning TWSNBN!

Looks like this group is not only an late night group, but an early morning group. No wonder we are up to 9 pages. I thought I was doing good staying up till 11:30 last night. I forget that we have a bunch of different timezones. Whooeee, I don't think this thread will ever sleep.

Time to clean house, get ready for trip (haven't packed anything yet), get the cats ready for a week away, get my run and some bike in, play a tennis match (must win must win must win), go to bookclub, bank, postoffice, write a self assessment for work - do you think they will let me include BT? Yeah, today is a day off from work but I'll be working way harder than if I was at work. Don't forget, I'll be dropping in on BT all throughout the day trying to get my quota in before disappearing for a week.

I hear you. I usually read a book everynight (kind of goes with the job of being a librarian) and BT is sure cutting into my reading. Oh, but then you could say I am reading. LOL

Beth, you need to be cautious when you inquite about what one wears under their kilt...
A friend of mine asked that of a "gentleman" who was wearing a kilt... and his response was "the loch ness monster"

I can' t wait until I can swim even CLOSE to 2 min/100 yds and talk about how slow I am!   You hit it exactly though....  You just gotta spend more time in the water.  Speaking of which, I'm off to spend more time in the water!

Good gravy!!! Page nine! Toot toot! That's me blowing my own horn! I lost 3.6 pounds this week! Oh yeah! And I got up this morning and went to the 5:40am yoga class. And I'm so not a morning person! But it is nice to have my workout over and done for the day.

Running. Bleck. I find it very frustrating because just when I start seeing some progress, I have to back off due to injury or fear of injury. It's like one step forward, three steps back. I finally built up my base to handle a half mary and blam, I can't run for 6 weeks. So now I'm just hoping I can get a mile on the dreadmill next week without pain. Just makes me want to scream and snort.

Kendra, enjoy your trip. Jeni, awesome job on the award! Dee, no more oatmeal! Beth, oh man I forgot since the thread is nine pages long and everything is just running together! I'll get some more coffee and try to peak into everyone's blogs!

Pam

Better than some other answers I've heard.

Of course it depends on how many beers the wearer has had as to what they answer.

How Adam Got Eve -- Priceless

Adam was hanging around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely.

So, God asked him, "What's wrong with you?" (obviously he was not on BT)

God said that He was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman.
He said, "This pretty lady will gather food for you, she will cook for you, and when you discover clothing, she will wash it for you. She will always agree with every decision you make and she will not nag you, and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will praise you! She will bear your children, and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. "She will NEVER have a headache and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it."

Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?"

God replied, "An arm and a leg."

Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"

Of course the rest is history............!!!!

How many avatar changes does that make for the last 24 hours?

I have no idea

i'm guessing the man changes avatars more often than he changes underwear
