|
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey folks! I ended up going out to dinner at the beach last night, rather than have my quiet night at home on BT, so I am behind on checking in..been cleaning today, getting ready for a 1:15 zone 2 run, then shower and plop on the couch with the fam to watch the superbowl...most interested in the commercials I haven't visited the forums to see the Feb. challenge, but challenges are always a great way to keep you in line!! Join in!! May your favorite team win |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is the link for the Feb Challange - basically you choose your "poison" - swim, bike or run and commit to distance or time. Challenges - for me - have been great motivators I have used in the past - I would recommend them to anyone interested in a little extra motivation.

I am doing it and am going to swim - figured it was another motivator for me to work on my weakest link. I'm joining you on the swimming team -- definitely can use more time in the pool! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Over at http://www.runango.com(Marathons Forum), I've created the first of many "21-Day Challenges". I find that 21 days is the perfect length to really nail down some short-term goals without feeling like the horizon is too far away......it also keeps you from procrastinating. My goals for the 21-Day Challenge #1 are: My goals for the period 2/4 - 2/25 are: 1) Drop five pounds to 220 by 2/25. 2) Run 50 miles 3) Cycle 10 hours (road and/or trainer) 4) Swim 8,000 yards 5) No fast food whatsoever (and if it's a must due to kids' sports scheduling, get a salad only). 6) Have completed 2000 push-ups Edited by Krakatoa 2008-02-03 11:24 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nicely done, Krack-er-toa! and inspiring, too! I'm a' gonna look at my schedule for this week and the next two and set myself up with some goals! I did join the swim challenge for February- partially cause I kicked off about 1600 yesterday, some how this makes me believe that I can swim 11,000 total by the month's end. Hopefully this is not just a hallucinagenic after effect of too many chocoloate covered pretzels, which are, by the way, THE DEVIL. I had a beauty of a swim yesterday- I think I am finally getting this whole pull thing- at least my lats/shoulders/sides are aching and stiff, which I think suggests I might be. I forced myself into taking today off- tough for me to take off a week day cause I end up at work all foggy headed-- but I only took 3 days off during January, which I know was not right to do. I also think I have determined a tentative swim schedule with my trainer- I will be getting a small bit of extra privelege (ie swimming in a lane during children's red cross lessons) but that makes me feel a ton better about the whole thing. I am determined to get in that pool three times a week from now till the lake unfreezes if IT KILLS ME. It's my only hope. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My weekend workout wasn't so good, but my off day was good, as usual. I'm thinking that trying to train for another marathon this quickly may not be the best idea. I've never had success with this method but thought I could give it another shot. My right hip and both knees feel terrible and I think its a lack of recovery. I also probably need a massage. I'm only runnign 4 times a week so as to reduce the impact on my body but added swimming and biking to increase my overall cardio workouts. The thing is, if I don't give BQ a shot in April, I won't be able to try again until Fall 09. That's more than I can take!! Saturdays run was uncomfortable and cold. Maybe that was because I'd run three days in a row and I'm not recovered enough for that yet, or maybe I just need a massage to work out the kinks. I'll give it a few more weeks, til the marathon pace run workout and decide then. My stubbornness is going to be the end of me!! This week: Monday: wts, 90 min spin Tuesday: swim 3000 AM, run 12 PM Wednesday: swim recovery AM, run 6 recovery PM Thursday: 60 min spin, wts, run 9 LT PM Friday: swim 2500 hard AM Saturday: run 16 long (30 minute spin first) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, with all the challenges I feel like I have to do "SOMETHING". However for me the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to stay consistant and do what coach perscribes so not missing ANY workouts is my goal for the next month. ....Notice I didn't say I wouldn't move them around a bit. Here's what's on tap this week--- Mon- Swim/Bike Dbl Tues- Off- Yoga Wed- Swim/Run Dbl Thurs- Bike Friday- Swim Sat- Bike/Run Brick Sun- Run |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone else racing this weekend? I have a 40 furlong (now I really feel like a clydesdale, I am doing horse racing distance measurement)
|
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not racing, but think I'll volunteer at the local season opener! My race season starts April 27 with St. Anthony's and not a minute before that!!! |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() With the weather we are having, the only racing you could do is to the airport to get the h*ll out of here to somewhere sunny! At least could we PLEASE have the dumping of snow that the midwest is getting, please? All right, peeps, I need some suggestions for a good entry level heart rate monitor. Mine is wrecked. Anyone? |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a Nike CRX something or other. LOL I have more gadgets (including my beloved Garmin Forerunner 305) but I don't know how to use half of them to their full potential. Anywhoooo, when I want to focus on HR it works just fine. |
|
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think Polar makes a decent entry level hrm...not sure what model though. I had a cheapie SI one and it was a total POC - also only about 30 bucks! Do love my Garmin. My training buddy has a Polar and likes it fine. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Heart Rate Monitor? Whats that? I never use one, I know people love them but I don't and just do Perceived Exertion and various race paces. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We got my husband a Timex for his birthday -- looks like it should do the job of tracking the HR. (He's trying to lose weight, but remembers "in the day" when he could run in the desert sand and then jump in the pool. Gets frustrated by "just" walking. I'm trying to convince him that he's probably getting his HR up just fing by "just" walking.) Have to say that I love my Garmin 305 too. Got it for my birthday in December and am still learning how to use it. Love that it tells me how far I went -- handy for those mornings where I add a little extra on to keep moving during a red light. Love that it can tell me when I've gone out of my desired HR zone. ESPECIALLY LOVE the workout training feature -- I can set it so that it times my everchanging run/walk ratios -- don't have to do complicated math in my head while I'm exercising. I was lucky and got a great deal on it through costco.com over the holiday. Last I checked, they don't have them right now, but if you can get a good deal on one, it would be worth it. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() the garmin 305 - I just found one for 189 on ebay plus 10 shipping- is it a good price? I'm very tempted as I have money I forgot about it my paypal account..........and I only spent 29 on the Nike +iPod....that is .6 off on a 4.00 run........ But is it easy to use? I am NOT tech savy at ALL. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() $189 + shipping is a pretty good price. It's not too hard to use -- certainly a lot easier to set up than that dratted kinetic bike computer. The instruction book's a lot better than the one for the bike computer too. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hmmm...easy to use? Sort of ...but I don't use everything on it. I just got tired of running and not knowing how far I went so I wanted to know my current pace, how far I've gone and how long I've been out there. I also use the HR part but it's hard to see. I wish it had a light like my sports watch so I could see the displays when I run early or late.

I am NOT tech savy at ALL. That's a GREAT PRICE! go for it!! I am not tech saavy, but have no problems with it...I dont use it to it's greatest capacity, but it has all the features I need and want. As far as using a heart rate monitor...I never used to use one - went for the kiss approach as well. Since training for IMFL and using one, I have accomplished goals that I thought were out of reach...how about a 5k PR that I had been after for years - in a sprint tri! PRed the 1/2 mary distance, and finished IMFL in a time I was pleased with...I am a firm believer in it. I never would have thought running slow would make me run faster Just my 2 cents, but I would say Amy, if you have the cash, get it!!! |

It does have a light...just push once on the on/off button (upper left corner) and it'll light up...OR, if you go out of your prescribed zone, it'll light up |
