Kelly and gang,

You may have already saw this posted in the main forum.  IM NYC swim portion may be cancelled due to sewage break.  Ouch!!!

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-09/new-york-ironman-triathlon-may-cancel-hudson-swim-due-to-sewage.html

It looks like a nasty situation.  When I did USAT long course nationals in 2010 in Myrtle Beach it poured the week before the event and they cancelled the swim on race morning because of the high bacterial levels.  Ended up doing a modified TT start on the bike.  Not a fun way to race.

Recovery ride this morning.  I am hungry this week.  So hungry.  The quality of my diet is superior, but I sure do eat tons of the good stuff.  It's not unusual for me to eat 1/2 watermelon or 2 giant bowls of carrots in a sitting.  Way too much hummus.  I will not be buying a bag of pistachios again, as they seem to call out my name when I open the cupboard.

It's raining here, so another lonely day spent indoors with 4 stir crazy children.  Madge wants to cut off her hair, which is almost to her waist, and I'm trying to dissuade her.  No luck.  We may be going to the salon today so she can get a cut like mine (a chin length bob).  Exciting stuff, folks.

Run 1 for the day is in.  Trying to figure out where to stick run 2 since we're supposed to go to the Astros game tonight.  It's kids run the bases night so at least the girls have a good time even if the team is an abomination.

I had a recovery sports massage last nigth...AWESOME! My wife got it for me for our anniversary I would have never done it otherwise. I feel pretty fresh today with a little soreness in a couple of trouble areas but they said that may happen. I may have to continue this during recovery weeks especially if I can see dividends from it. Tomorrow I am back to working out. The program called for a day off today so I am just going with that and then roll into Marathon specific training. It looks like the program I chose has at least one cross training day a week. I will also continue to go swimming on my master's class swimming days. Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

BTW anyone racing this weekend?

You can run the bases -- I don't know maybe 150 time or so.  If you can't run tonight, run first thing tomorrow morning.

This is a super interestin article:  http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2012/08/09/158448224/olympic-bodies-they-just-dont-make-them-like-they-used-to

Compares the bodies of former world record holders from the early 20th century to Olympians today.  Its pretty cool to see the body type specialization in sports.

I have planned a duathlon for my boy scout pack in September. It will be a 0.25mile run/1mile bike(or scooter)/0.25run around a local park. It is for boys 5-11 years old, hence the scooter). I have a endurance coach coming and the owner of a local bike shop to talk to the boys about multisport, safety, how to fix a flat, etc.

I am trying to be as authentic as possible and have finishers medals for the boys. However, everywhere I look for bibs it is so expensive. Should I just make up bibs on the computers or go without the bibs and give everyone a Popsicle stick as they cross the line with their number finish? Time doesn't matter so maybe I shouldn't do anything? Any thoughts?

Michele -- I have tons of extra bibs (as long as you don't mind numbers that start in the 400s).  I love the popsicle stick system, twenty years ago most running races were timed that way.  I also have a ton of extra finishers medals, but obviously they wouldn't be for your specific race.  If you want them, they're yours.

Kelly that is great! I appreciate your help! Do you have 80 bibs? I don't care at all what the numbers are - just trying to make it as real as possible for the boys. What race are your finishers medals from? We have a bunch of cheap plastic ones from oriental trading - I would have to ask our cubmaster what he thinks of the medals saying something else. THANKS so much!!!

Holy crap, Paula.  5'8" and 118 lbs.  I would be in a hospital if I weighed that little.  Dang.

**edited to add that I know it is not only about her weight but it is about her body fat, but at that height/weight ratio, she has to be under 10% BF.

Ok, ladies...do you cut out the sports bra part of your tri top or trisuit?  I've always been fine with it, but then I got my pictures back from the Cleveland Triathlon, and I realize it is NOT fine.  LOL  I think I need a real sports bra.  Anyway, cut them out????

I have no boobs.  I only use tri tops with a built in bra because wearing an extra one is a PITA and chaffe-y.  Some built in bras are better than others.  If you feel fine, I wouldn't worry about it.  All race pictures are less than flattering.

I'm 5'9", and if I were 118 lbs., then I would be a bag of bones and wouldn't have the energy to get out of bed.  There would be no need for a sports bra, so you're right on that one!

The built in bra feels fine, and I never have any bouncing or discomfort.  I always like having one less thing to worry about.  I'm not large either at an A cup.  You're right....all the race pictures are horrendous, so who cares how saggy the mom boobs look in them.

I am biking today, I am biking today, I am biking today!!!  And I'm super excited just thinking about it.

I first have to put new tires on my bike (old ones are cracked/dry) and pack everything up to head over to my friends house.

I have not been on my bike since Vineman.  It's still got all the gel and sports drink dried up stick-i-ness all over it.  And probably a lot of bugs from the long drive back home.  I should probably think about cleaning it.

What is everyone else doing today?

I do not cut out the built in bra if there is one, they work fine for me.  I usually race in a DeSoto tri top that does not have anything, so I wear a 2XU sports bra underneath.  It has about the same support (very light) as a built in, but probably fits me better since I'm so tall.  I should probably wear something more supportive, but I'm comfortable.

I agree, race pictures are not flattering at all!

ETA - Am I the only one that thinks it's a little creepy to have Tom Demerly posting about cup sizes???

Tom strikes me as one of those socially awkward people that is innocently creepy.  He just knows what he's talking about because he runs the testing and review area at trisports.

My buddy is doing IMNYC today.  Out of the water in 42:5x.  Rolling about 20 mph.  I know he's been killing training.  High hopes.

I think Tom Demerly is generally creepy.  I wish Bryan was banned, I know he has tons of thoughts on this one.

There was a huge current on the Hudson.  Because of the sewage they opened the flow on the Hudson making it faster than usual.  Pro times were in the 30s.

This is pretty fantastic.  Leonardo Chacon Corrales wrote a message on Simon Whitfield's facebook page after Whitfield caused Corrales to crash in the Olympics.
