For the first time since March 7th I was able to run.  Very short, very easy, very slow, very scared, very long way to go, but I'm running.

Awesome!  Congrats.  You've been very patient.

Can someone repost the link to the marathon pace chart..stand alone vs IM?

I guess that is the only bad thing about such an active thread!  Its hard to go back and find information

Thanks!

Awesome news.  If you take it easy, you'll be amazed at how far you'll be months from now!

I don't want to input too much 'cos my training is dictated by my coach so difficult to join in any challenges, but I did have a passing thought or two.

So as to be more inclusive of the not so smoking fast people, first timers... and of course us girls who unfortunately often haven't got the speed on the bike and run - why not consider making the challenges based on hours rather than miles.  Also easier to include trainer rides (I hate estimating speeds from these   )

Y'all might not remember me.  I'm signed up for IMLP this summer, but have been sidelined by a small, benign brain tumor.  Kind of like that pebble in the road when you're out training, and you hit it just wrong and . . . Cry

Tumor was diagnosed in January.  It's small, it's benign (won't spread), it's slow growing, but it's in a nasty spot wedged between my brain stem and my inner ear.  I had Cyberknife radiation treatment for the thing in March and still thought I might make IMLP, but my normally low blood pressure shot up after treatment and has refused to come down.  So today is the day that I'm sending out the emails letting folks know that IMLP is a no-go for me this year.  2011?  Not sure . . .

I've been kind of depressed and not really in triathlon mode, and not on BT for months, but today I'm stopping the pity party and working on Plan B for the summer.  Lots of sprints, maybe some training for a big HIM in the fall.

Will likely be cancelling my motel reservation within the next couple days. Small, cheap kitchenette in Upper Jay for a week?  Let me know if anyone's interested in picking up the reservation and I'll coordinate with you.

Sorry to hear about your horrid health news.  So glad it isn't anything nastier and not surprised you haven't been in tri mood.
Look after yourself first - IM's are there year after year.
Good luck with having some fun with some sprints etc

Everyone deserves a pity party now and then, whether it's just a paper cut or, in your case, bigger.  SO happy that the little bugger is benign.

Good luck with taking care of yourself. I'm sure SOMEONE would snag that reservation up in a hot second!!! I know I'D love a kitchenette for that week!!!!

Question about the training plan:

I started my IM training early to account for missed time due to injury, illness, busy schedule, etc...  well... using the BT plan, my "taper" wouldn't start until July 5th and I only have three weeks work of workouts left in my BT plan (including a recovery week BEFORE the taper!).

I looks like I have about 6 weeks of wiggle room.  I KNOW I have to get in a lot more cycling... I really gotta work on 5+ hour rides, but what else should I think about?

I'm not worried about the swim at all and if I try to increase running mileage I'd be sure to hurt myself.

Should I just take the last cycle of base building and repeat it until it's time to taper?  Or, should I switch over from the BT beginner plan to one I'd pay for and figure out where I'd be right now on THAT plan and take it from there?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear.  Thank God it's benign!!   Situations like this really put things in perspective.  The rest of us should all realize how damn lucky we are to be able to train.  It's an absolute privelege to be able to consistently train and race.  Yesterday I went to a funeral for a 15-yr-old boy.   Life is very short.  One day at a time I try to realize how lucky I am; I try to be non-judgemental of others; I try to be positive and helpful to myself and others.

Godspeed your recovery Sunfish.  Hopefully LP 2011 is in the cards for you.  Thanks for posting this update.

On a lighter (or heavier note) I ate an entire box of Sugar Smacks today.  Three big bowls for breakfast, and three big bowls just now.  Yup, an entire box gone.  No I don't plan to do it again, it just kind of happened.

Did they change the name to Honey Smacks now or do they still have Sugar Smacks as well?

Sunfish, no wonder you haven't been in the mood to spend much time on BT. I'm so glad that it's benign--still a big deal though. Go ahead and have a pity party for a while if you need to, because cit sounds like you won't stay there for long.

None of us can truly count on being there on race day, or making it through the whole race. We are all lucky to be healthy and able and can't take that for granted at all. I hope you feel much better and get back to full health soon.

There are so many Ironman races, or iron-distance races, and they aren't going to stop having them any time soon. Ironman will be waiting for you when you are healed and ready. Come back to BT then and you can bet you'll have a lot of people cheering for you.

416.65 bike miles Missing my long ride last weekend due to weather and this weekend due to work travel have taken me out of the challenge. I have a couple rides on the schedule this week including a long one Friday so at least I'll end with a solid month thanks to you guys giving me a push.On a celebratory note, I ran 12 continuous pain-free miles this morning! This is my longest since last August so I'm thrilled.Papson, hang in there and congrats on your start today. I didn't run a step for over 4 months and was able to make my way back slowly, you will as well!

Sorry about your brain tumor and the implications in life.

Was it an Acoustic neuroma? My husband had one and had surgery back in 2000. He is here on BT Kevin G if you'd like to PM him. A couple other BTers have had one and one had same procedure as you within last 9 months or so.

It's hard to understand and accept plus it derailed your big plans. You will get back at it and enjoy how precious life is and how fortunate we are to do this fun sport.

Hope things continue to improve for you!
