Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carrie639 - 2011-07-29 9:00 AM 20 miles tomorrow ---- NEW longest distance ever!!! So need to spend a little time tonight determining how much nutrition I will need to bring with me. I have been taking sips of the gel from the flask every 20 minutes (seems to work, but its not a full gel serving), but at over 4 hours tomorrow trying to figure out how to carry everything. I can carry 1 gels flask on my belt, but then need to carry the gatorade endurance and endurolytes which take up the other little zip up bags. I guess I could carry some single serving gels in my shorts. I don't really like to carry things in my hands, but I guess if I had to I could carry at second gel flask and toss at some point. My group will have 8 aid stations, but I usually just grab water at those. Any thoughts? For really long runs, I re-fuel. I'll start with my 2 fuel belt bottles and my pouch with my gel and clif bloks. I'll also place frozen bottles of perform someplace I'll pass by several times and re-fuel as needed. I would put the extra gels you need in your shorts (or leave the second gel flask at the half way point and swap out). With regard to your races, its always easier to live off the course. Once detriment to using hammer gels is that they only contain one type of sugar (frustose, I believe), which makes them less interchangeable to other gels that contain multiple types of sugars. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So are you saying that I should continue to try and get my body used to the cliff shots . . . to live off the courses? Will my body eventually accept? If you do this for all races, it could get crazy. I am considering the Chicago rock and roll 1/2 and they use cytomax . . . |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, I'm back from my mother's house. It seems I've missed a lot, and that's probably a good thing (you guys are pervs I've got some hard workouts to do in the next 5 days, and then I'm doing the Cleveland Tri. It should be awesome racing downtown. So....what do you do in the days leading up to a sprint race to make sure you are in a great place? I'm working on hydrating well before race weekend, and I'm changing up my nutrition a bit. I was thinking about getting a massage on Wed., as things are feeling a little tight. What is your routine? |

Been raining lots lately, which I am sure has not helped the humidity Jealous! We might be a little over .25" now...for the year!We could use some rain here as well, but not nearly as bad as you. How does anything grow out there? Reminds me of the kids movie Rango!!! Great movie if anyone has not seen it with their kids!! just released on DVD as well. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just read some of the final instructions for Niantic Bay next Sunday. They are using TriTat's instead of body marking. Apparently this is a new thing? it is similiar to putting those cartoon tattoos on as kids. We need to put them on the day prior to the event, and can shower with them etc. interesting. They will have two types. One goes on the left calf, and that is your age Group, Clydesdale or Athena marking, then your number goes on the outside of your right lower leg and right arm. Is this new to everyone? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have just decided after a short VERY HOT run, that tri tops are TOO HOT to run in. I thought it would be nice to have the pockets to store stuff in, but the running singlets are way more breathable!!! Just sayin' . . . Hope everyone has a great weekend of training . . . keep your fingers crossed for good cool weather tomorrow am . . . my tummy is getting a little out of sorts in this hot weather periodically! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have heard that, and they give you a tan in the outline of your number (depending on the length of the race) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tomorrow I'm doing a brick workout with my training buddies. The plan is to ride a 30 mile hilly loop and then run a hilly 3 mile loop - 3 times! Should be an interesting and crazy day! |
