Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You can't get away with that Gary... I remember when you first got the trainer, and you crashed pretty bad, because you had the wrong skewer? Wasn't that you? So, is this really your FIRST crash? Glad you got your foot down fast, and that you're ok and can laugh about it... |

Glad you got your foot down fast, and that you're ok and can laugh about it... Your right!!!!! Great memory, this was my 2nd crash! Did end up sending some things flying (fan, tv remote, etc) and DW looks back at me with a "WTH?" look. I was laughing so hard she just laughed and went back to the program. She is used to me being a bit of a klutz. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glad to hear you survived the crash. I almost got rollers for our house when they were on sale last month. That's exactly why I didn't. We don't have a safe area set up to use them.•••••We do manage to use our trainers without falling over ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Never crashed while on the trainer but I have keeled over (twice in fact) while stopped. Both times had one foot clipped in and one unclipped. Attempted to lift and move my bike to face in a different direction and over I went onto the side that I was clipped into. Once was in the middle of the country so just a few cows laughing at me. The other time was at a stop light at a major intersection. Thank goodness the driver behind me waited forme to unclip, stand up, dust myself off, pickup my waterbottle and glasses that had fallen off and move out of the way before he started through the now green light. ***** SPOILER ALERT - do not read the remainder if you are recording TV coverage for later viewing ****** Olympic update - woot woot, Canadian women won the Gold last night in hockey. Thrilling game against the USA women. Joannie Rochette of Canada, who's mother died of a heart attack last weekend while in attendance at the Games, won a Bronze in ladies singles figure skating. As courageous a performance as one could possibly imagine. Oh - and FBP has some new sticka's on Sebastian. Added the Canadian Diabetes Association web address (www.diabetes.ca) on the outside of the front forks. I'm starting to look like a NASCAR racer !!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary, holy moly! Glad you are ok!! that sounded like it could have been bad!!!! Peter, I remember keeling over on my bike, while using clip on shoes for the first time (they were MIL's),...we were going on a gravel road, and stopped, and of course, I forgot all about the clip and went down on the gravel, knee cap first, hard. wow, I saw a LOT of stars then. Had to sit down for a few minutes and catch my breath. Not a pleasant experience lol Took a spinning class yesterday and the shin aches even from that. UGH. Can't wait for the dr's appt on Monday, see what he has to say. I hope I can still do my marathon... lots of PT, I guess. How's everyone's Friday going? Any big plans for the weekend? |

![]() | ![]() I almost went down the other day when I was riding outside. I caught my bootie in the pedal while I was trying to unclip...got it off the pedal just in the nick of time! Gary...I never knew indoor training could be so dangerous!!!LOL Pete, Love the Sitcka!!!!Congrats on the GOLD!!!!!! Going to do a short run today and probably a swim. Taking tommorow off, and Sunday doing a 10K race with alot of my BT friends. Looking forward to a fun weekend! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, I would like to turn our attention to a serious subject that I think all those doing HIM's, IM's, Century Rides, etc have to deal with. I am surprised that there hasn't been a Barbara Walters special on this delicate subject. What I am talking about is...........Do you pee on your bike while riding? (gasp, oh my!) Yes, my friends, the yellow sock brigade. I know the group is somewhat divided on the subject of peeing in your wetsuit but what about the bike? I drank way too much before and during and had to stop once and just managed to finish the ride. During my HIM I am a bit concerned that I am going to have to make stops at all three aid stations if I don't curb my liquid intake somewhat. A lot of lost time. Thoughts? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() I not only pee in my wetsuit...YES I pee on my bike. Takes some practice. A few tips.. be kind to your fellow racers, always check behind you before you let go....keep your feet paralell to the road, this minimizes sock drenching....rinse with water as needed. I have never stopped at a portapot during a race( they are disgusting). |
![]() ![]() |
Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've talked about this with a few friends. I think they need Tri shirts that say "I may have finished after you, but at least I didn't pee my pants.". That being said, I'm only doing the HIM and have a bladder of steel. I hope to go at the start (in the water) and maybe once on the run. We'll see! |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Nancy the problem is that you have to drink so much to get your calories on the bike its virtually impossible. I am a nurse and go as many as 12 hours without a break but I cant hydrate the way I need to for a HIM and not go!!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() On my one longer Sprint I tried but could not. Probably will have to add that to my training plan! Preferably on a day I am not riding the trainer. Thanks for the input. |

![]() | ![]() Most people dont pee on the trqainer...then again most people dont fall off the trainer either!!!! ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I asked a guy I run with what he did during the IM's he has done when he had to pee on the bike. He says that most people pee on their bikes. He described how he does it but I am afraid that is too much information. I never really thought about this until the question was asked. I was just thinking about using a port a potty but maybe I need to rethink this. This guy said that you are soaking wet from sweat so it's not like you are dry anyways. This will be a problem for me because my blatter is smaller than my wife when she is 9 months pregnant. Yes, on long drives, I am the one that is alway stopping. Hey, what are we doing for the March Challenge???????? |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I still have to think about the peeing thing as well, jury is still out. As far as the March challenge, you will be losing to Gary's team, what else do you need to know. And, you Lena, I....am....still....waiting....on....your....decision......................................whats the individual challenge? In the words of the late great Ronald Reagan, Lena, tear down that wall!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Never was able to get my run in last night but a 1920m swim and a 2hr (~38 mile) ride has me pretty hopeful that my training is progressing. I got 10 hrs sleep last night but don't feel sore today, another good sign. On a "when it rains it pours" note, the father of an old friend passed away. This man was like a second father to me. He taught me to hunt, drive a 4wd off road, even let me drive the old school bus he bought as part of a business venture. I haven't seen him in a long while but I will miss him. On an up note, DD and I are about to head out to see a LSU baseball game. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry to hear about the friend, I worry about that every day at my age. On a better note, I ran a 5K this morning at a local church, no big deal really, but wait. I was asked by a friend that was planning to run the New Orleans marathon tomorrow, if I would run with his son. Again no big deal, except his son is 9 years old. I figured he would run 1 or 2 miles and give up. Not! This young man ran the entire 3.1 miles in 28 minutes, are y'all as impressed as I was? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! Back from the LSU game. At one point they were down 8 to nothing, came back to win it 10-9. Awesome game, sorry ot any William and Mary fans! DD had a great time as we at all kinds of junk food, nachos, cotton candy, etc. Billy - really cool about the 5k! I bought a Profile Design from my local LBS. Turns out with the 15% discount I get from my Tri group it was cheaper than buying online. Put it on but haven't really used it yet. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First, don't pee on the trainer. Billy - I added a finish line for your 5k. We are going to finish February with 10 so we are on track for at least 60 for the year....awesome. Peeing on the bike - it happens. It really isn't that difficult but it can be sort of disgusting. Be sure you move your water bottle from your down tube before you let fly. Then use that bottle of water to rinse yourself. pick up a water bottle at the next aid station and refill yours. Now, that said, I got off the bike a couple of times in AZ to stretch my back and hammies. Don't be afraid to stop and stretch - just don't screw around....I timed myself and in two minutes could stop, pee and stretch.....then back on the bike and off you go. To stop and stretch without the pee took about the same time. As long as that day was, I didn't worry about a couple of minutes. I think we will start another challenge with the same teams beginning Monday and running two weeks again. The points this time will be for time instead of distance. One hour running, one hour swimming or one hour riding gets 6 points. One hour of other sports gets 2 points and I will decide totally unscientifically if we have any decisions to make on other points such as tiddly-winks or playing hopscotch (Dan, that is a reference to BOWLING). Time can be broken down into either 15 or 20 minute blocks. No rounding up....it is the nearest lower 15 or 20 minute time block. That's why it is 6 points instead of 7. So, sorry QBs, but you are going to have to deal with some half points if someone rides for 15 minutes...that would be 1/4 of 6 or a total of 1.5 points. Again, please, please, please do not over train.....just work your plan. FBP - your country has done a great job with the Olympics. I gotta root for the US tomorrow in the hockey game but beating the great Canadian team twice may be too much to ask. Your women's team wiped the ice with our gals....and I especially appreciated their unabashed celebration long after the game.....it is a shame the games were marred at the beginning with the luge rider's death. Such a tragedy. What a great couple of weeks of television.... 8 mile trail race tomorrow morning....should be fun. sTRIve... |
