Also, can someone tell me more about pedal based power?  When will Garmin actually release the Vector?  I did read DC Rainmaker's write up on it.  I'm upgrading to a triathlon bike after Christmas, and I have been thinking a lot about getting a power meter as well.  Big purchases have to be made right after Christmas or they're not happening.

(1) Would it be worth it for me to invest in a power meter for my third year of training/racing?  Or will training by HR suffice?

(2)  Thoughts on the Vector.....anyone have opinions?  I have Look Keo Easy pedals on my road bike, and I plan on sticking with the Look pedals on my triathlon bike, so it just seems easy to gather power data that way.  I probably need to read more on training with power in general, so if you could point me in the right direction, Kelly, I'd appreciate it!

Carrie sorry about the bum ankle.  I went through a period in my life where I had a bum ankle or knee for damn near a year so I feel you on this.

IMNY still open last I checked if you have an extra couple grand laying around.  LOL.

Jen.  Outside of a new bike I'd suggest a powermeter as the next investment.  I'd really like to get my hands on one.  I was thinking I about getting race wheels at some point prior to IMTX, but a powermeter and renting/borrowing race wheels would be a smarter decision.

3k in the pool and a recovery jog for me this morning.  Found a swim thought I think works for me.  I've always been a visualization guy when it comes to sports I'm good at.  Whether it's a swing thought in golf or baseball or the arc I used to visualize my arm going around when I threw a baseball it has always been something.  Don't know why I never tried to apply this to swimming.

Oh and sunglasses.  I got these off Ebay.  Like them a lot.  I tend to lose or break sunglasses easily so no Oakleys for me, but at this price I don't care how reckless I tend to be.

What is your swim thought?

I visualize a lot when I'm running.  In order to run softly, I pretend I'm running on clouds or picture my feet as being clouds.  I am not joking, and it really does work for me.  I also have to visualize my foot, and picture a midfoot landing (with my leg directly under my body instead of overstriding), and then I land that way vs. heel strike).

Kelly - I like the look of the Hogsback course!  Pretty run toward the end and the finisher's line is beautiful.

I visualize a line in the path I want my arm pulling and I try to stick to it.  Seemed to work today once it came to me half way through my workout.  So it's "Shallow, down the line."  I tend to pull to deep too.  We'll see.  May take some tinkering.

Do you NEED a power meter, no.  Are they useful, yes.  If you have $1500 you're looking to spend on triathlon, its a good investment but it is by no means necessary.

A good book is training and racing with power -- http://www.amazon.com/Training-Racing-Power-Meter-Hunter/dp/1934030554/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344871355&sr=8-1&keywords=training+and+racing+with+a+power+meter%5C

To me power is an output that you use to measure progress, not a metric you train by (however you can train by power -- that is instead of going out and biking in a specific HR zone, you go out and train in a specific power range, some what like use pace rather than HR to run).

kidtri33 - 2012-08-13 6:56 AM IM NYC can keep there goggles and watch! That is a ridiculous price. Plus when I do an IM I want to do some where I haven't been before. Anyway I digress.BTW, I had my first run Saturday and was sore yesterday?! Really?! Sore from just a week off? I mean it feels good in a no pain no gain kind of way. So I took yesterday and moved furniture and storage bins out of our basement to get ready for the framing I will be doing to start finishing out basement. Hope everyone has a blessed day!

You may still have race fatigue -- sometimes is takes a little while to recover.

Here's the full press release from WTC:  http://ironman.com/events/ironman/uschampionship/ironman-u.s.-champ... be honest, I'm not sure if they are listening to feedback from their athletes but rather listening to feedback from local officials and permitting authorities.

I love how they issue this as soon as they see that their event didn't sell out in 5 minutes.  Give me a break.  LMAO

Trying to hold out to see if I can get out on the road later today or if I'm going to relegate myself to the trainer.

Her name is Luci....fer

It is an internal joke in our family. If you have ever heard Blue Comedy Tour you may know what I am talking about. Bill Engvall (sp?) is talking about his son's friend and her name is Lucy. He says that he goes to the door and there is a girl dressed in goth with black everything and he says "Well Hello Lucy......fer". So my BIL jokes around and calls my wife Lucy now after she disciplines the kids or just to mess with her. So it is a running joke in the family and we thought it would be cool to give it my wife's "nickname" so that I am not really with another girl

Carrie- as for naming. It goes waaaaayyy back! Mainly guys have always done this. It was mainly for ships and boats and it is always a her. I am not sure about the full details but after being in the Navy you hear it all the time.
