Started off the Month (competition) pretty good - did an hour work-out with my personal trainer, and a 10 min warm-up prior to that... that's 70 minutes... I know it's not running/biking/swimming, but it was cardio & weights

I'm hoping I get in a bike ride tonight

I know a few of you have talked about struggling with running.  I have a few suggestions.

First, get in a group.  I use to be a lone runner and the longer distance is hard by yourself.  My running groups hold me accountable to show up and it's a social club.  I know more about the people I run with than most of their friends.  It's amazing how much people open up to each other when they suffer together.  Misery loves company.

Second, try a different route.  If you run on the road, do a trail run.  If you are on a treadmill, get outside.  If you are use to running long, try a speed workout or tempo run.  Mix up the workout or else you will get burnt out.

Third,  track your time.  You don't have to be a slave to your watch but just monitor your time and try and beat it the next time you run that route.  I look at past year's logs to determine how my training is going for this year.

Just a few suggestions I wanted to throw out at you.

Saw my sports doc last night and was very impressed with him. Verdict-my shin is runnable!!! He thinks that custom orthodics will fix the issue-my foot places and toes off in a way that is stressing the tibia muscle fibers, and it's manifesting in what I'm experiencing. So, he did some ultrasound therapy, fitted me for the orthodics and instructed me to run an easy 5 miler and if things are ok, 8 miles on Sat before my next appt with him.

I ran the 5 today and no pain!!!!! I'm SOOO excited to be running again! I know I need to be careful, so I held back when I wanted to go longer and faster, and stuck to slow and steady.

(you are going down for sure now, Billy... MUAHAHAHHAAA)

Lena, that is great news!!  So excited for you that you ran 5 miles and your shin felt great!  Woo Hoo!!  Watch out Billy!!  Billy IMKY is our first so we do share a special bond....but I'll be your friend after Lena smokes you!!!  ba ha ha ha!
Also Billy good luck on your mission trip.  Will keep you in my prayers.

Gary make sure you use plenty of body glide on your neck with the wet suit.  You probably already know that.  I've seen many people with a nasty neckburn from the suit rubbing their neck while swimming.

Lena - great news!!!! Congrats!!!

Billy - smoke her like cheap tobacco!

Amy - thanks, yeah neck and calf's with body glide.  Practiced taking it off and was pretty much like taking off my sleeveless.

Diane - sounds like the PT is paying off.

John - thanks for the tips.  Reminds me I have to set up a group run.  A small group of us run a loop around the LSU lakes and end at a bar for a beer.  Good times if it isn't too hot out.

Nice swim in today and a vender sponsored a night out.  Bunch of IT guys drinking beer, talking IT, smack, etc.  Was fun.

HA!! Hahaha! You just go ahead and try

ok, i'll just say this- my wimpy mileage may not win against Billy's training, but I will not go down without a fight, that's for sure! So bring it! (and i say that very lovingly)

Hey all!!
Yesterday they listed the starting waves for my HIM.  Pro's go off at 7am, my group starts at 7:28.  Last group leaves at 8:20.  Glad my group is near the front.  Hopefully with the wetsuit and my training I won't get passed by too many people.

Got a 45 minute trainer ride in last night and 30 minutes this morning.  Schedule calls for a 1.5 hr run today and my knees are not up to that.  Will do a shorter run and take it easy.  May be try for a longer run this weekend.

Wanted to share with you folks a small victory for me!  This morning did a 30 minute ride.  Pushed but not very hard.  Finished and I noticed that I had gone more than 10 miles, could it mean?  Uploaded to Garmin training center and yes I avgd a little over 20 mph!  First time!  Granted trainer ride, only 30 minutes, etc but still a victory for me!!

Where is my team??  How is everyone?  Signed up for a Dash n Splash on the 27th.  3 mile run and a 400m swim, should be fun.  Training going okay, long swim cut short yesterday due to having to get back to work and leg cramps kicking in.  Too much caffiene and my fourth swim this week.  Need to get a couple of long swims in!  Going for a 2 hr ride today, hopefully outside for at least part.  Follow that up with a 4-5 mile run.

Everyone have a great day and train safe!!

Gary, nicely done on your ride!! 20mph is impressive! whohooo!

I did an 8 mile run yesterday (dreadmill) and my shin did not hurt at all!! I'm so happy I can resume running (cautiously, of course).

Sorry that I haven't been posting much. Busy, busy around here.

I'm having issues with my new bike. I've only been on the trainer with it, and I don't want to take it outside until I do my final fitting on it. They'll swap out any of my parts for free during my fitting, but only if they're still in great shape. I'm currently more comfortable on a spin bike at the Y than I am on my own bike, so I really need to get it scheduled.

Training is going well. I'm bummed my easy week fell during this challenge, but I guess I'll have to live with it

Hi All!!!

We had great weather here in New England! Its about time. This week the temps are going to be 50-60. I will try to ride everyday. I love when its like this.

I hired a coach this past week. I tend to overdo in order to be prepared for my races. If I am going to make it to Arizona in the fall I need someone to tell me exactly what I am supposed to do. Plus it will take some of the guess work out of how to train and work with my crazy schedule.

I did a group ride with some BTers and a new tri group in our area. We rode through Hopkinton( start of the Boston Marathon) and had to share the road with alot of marathoners who were getting in their long runs. Very fun. I am so sad I wont be running this year

Gary only a few more weeks til your HIM

Hey all!!
First, many thanks to Mav as she is working her magic and keeping me from completely losing it about my training for my HIM.  BTW, congrats on the ride.

Saturday got 38 miles on the bike then 4.7 miles running.  Felt good, no leg cramps running and my legs didn't feel too tired.  But did manage to add over 2.5 hrs for my team!!

Nancy - easy weeks are there for a purpose, enjoy them.  Have fun with the new bike!

Lena - Congrats on the 8 mile run!!!

Billy - hoping you are safe and sound

Walker - thinkin' about ya!

Freddy- Never got a chance to say congrats on the Olympics.  Hope the training is going well

We are finally getting nice weather here in the midwest.  Looking forward to getting out on my bike.

Hope everyone's training is going well.  Looks like a few of us have races in March.  Good Luck to all and let everyone know when you have completed a race.

The main racing season will be here before we know it.  You will all be stronger than the people just starting to think about training.

Hey all!  My wheel covers showed up but haven't put them on.  Waiting until after my bike tune-up (next week) to put them on.  A little bit of rain yesterday and today.  Hoping for clear weather for Friday as I want to get an outdoor ride on Friday and may be Saturday.
