So Cindy is of the opinion the little one is taking multiple little pees to "work" the rewards system.  All I said was there is a reason this is her cartoon representation:

They are young, not stupid: after awhile my now potty trained 3 year old would hold out for something better than M&Ms.

Thinking about getting a Pinky and the Brain sticker for my new bike when I get it.  My other daughter fits the Pinky role perfectly.

Well, I guess that answers why it didn't seem to make a difference . . . a wasted long run on bad supplements!  Thanks

Hey everyone, any thoughts on my post of the 20 mile run Saturday would be appreciated.  Calf cramps seem to be an issue with all my super long runs.  I haven't tried running with Zensah socks, but will start this week.  I honestly don't think it dehydration as I think I nailed that all week and during the run.  Never felt thirsty, just kept on it.  I am also going to add more calf strengthening.

23 miles on the 20th!!!

Instead of endurolytes have you thought about using thermotabs?

Run more sorry, but that is likely the best way. Magnesium is somewhat helpful for calf cramps I find. Endurolytes are not teRribly high in magnesium

Morning!  Up and heading out for a hour bike and a 35 minute run.  Whole body is sore from lifting yesterday.  Trying to ease my way back into the groove of things.

Good morning!

I was supposed to do a 3 hour bike + 3 mile run this morning (babysitter day), but I think I'm going to cut the bike time in half.  My legs are sore from yesterday's run, and I really want to do well in my race this weekend.  Opinions?

Races always serve as good motivation -- plus if you sign up for something in the fall it should hopefully be a bit cooler in south Florida.

Miamiman?  Think they have an Oly instead of a HIM.  Thinking about hitting this up in the next few years since my parents live there.

I think that would be a good race and you're right. The fall would be better as sad as it sounds come 10:00 am it is so hot and humid that running with any pace or distance becomes very difficult.

Thank you for responding, Kelly.  I took the advice and cut the bike time in half.  Too much for race week.  All efforts are easy from here on out, because I'd really like to do well on Sunday!

I have some transition questions for all you veterans:

  1. When exiting swim, obviously you start to peel the wetsuit. Is it best to get the arms out and get it to your waist, then take the rest off once you reach your tranistion area, or do you peel the whole thing when you exit the water.  I am assuming you wait. That's what i did on Thursday but wasn't sure if there was a better way.
  2. How many of you actually run and ride without socks?
  3. Does everyone use Yankz laces? I tried a pair, not Yankz, but similiar, and on both runs, they seemed to hurt the top of my foot, bad.  Maybe at that time, my feet just needed a break, and it was a freak thing.  Anyone else experience this? it just seemed my shoes were so tight around my feet from the elastic type laces.

1.  If they don't have wetsuit strippers I'd wait.

2.  I run w/o socks.  Considering socks for my HIM though.

3.  I have Yankz in one pair of shoes and lock laces in the other.  I prefer the lock laces.  Seem more substantial and less prone to snapping.

-  I unzip and peel it down to the waist and run in it to transition.

-  I ride and run without socks.  I plan on doing the same thing for my oly race at the end of August.

-  I put Lock Laces on my running shoes. I like that they cut down on transition time, but I HATE the way they make my shoes feel.  I think I set them too tight, and my feet burn when I run.  I'm going to pick up another pair and make them a little looser, because I like to wear my shoes that way.

Other Jeff - if you have a very long run fromt eh beach to transition (I have had races with 1/4 of a mile or more) then strip your wetsuit in the water as once you dry off its a PITA to get them off.  otherwise i agree with teh stip to waist method.?

Jen - look at Zoots.  They have a laceless entry and seemless insole and are made for running sockless.  i have worn mine in many olys with no blister issues.  I also put some vasoline on the insides for added protection.

l

I will look into the Zoots.  I need shoes like this.  My running shoes have about 100 miles left in them, and then I'm throwing them away.  Gel Nimbus were an AWFUL fit for me.  Do you run in Zoots?

My youngest two are napping, and my oldest two are watching a movie.  I told Conrad and Madge that I was going to lie on the couch for 30 minutes and take a nap, and they were not to wake me up (they were watching a movie anyway).  10 minutes into my "nap" Conrad was poking my face with a light saber, asking me to get him some lemonade.  WTF.

only race in Zoots, they are definitely not trainers (although I think they came out with a run trainer recently).  i'll usually train in them for a few runs before races but they are about 3 years old so they are very broken in.

As a side note: i dont really subscribe to the "running shoes wear out" philosophy.  I usually ahve more issues with new shoes than old.  I probably put 500+ miles on shoes before actually throwing them away.

Never liked Asics myself I go with NB or Brooks.

LOL....Guess you're right   I was only annoyed because of the way he poked me (not because he was thirsty...that's my job).  I'm going to drop kick these light sabers (and we have 6 of them).  They cause so many fights and problems among my children.  Sigh.

I actually love my Asic Nimbus 12's.  But I was running in Nike Shox in February.  If that don't announce "newbie" I am not sure what else does.  Those things were like running with bricks attached to your feet.

Gotta love the sword fighting.

jeff-y, why only race in Zoots?  I'm confused?
