Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all... how's it going? quiet in here. I managed to get a couple of good workouts yesterday, but today, stuck at home. Planned to go to LTF and do yoga and a run, but Lukas had a rough night with teething, so I canceled, so he can sleep and rest. I'll hop on the dreadmill a couple of times, though, so hopefully, I can still get a decent mileage out of today.. Just no yoga, and my body really needs it. Oh well, maybe i'll go on Sunday pm. Hey, Marianne..... is this what you meant when you mentioned the Uncrustables? http://www.smuckers.com/products/details.aspx?groupId=3&categoryId=... I'm really trying to find good pre- and post-workout snacks/foods. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny story. Head out for my long ride yesterday, want to take it easy. Nice day and just cruising, no push at all. Look at my Garmin and it says 19.7mph. Wow! Could it be that all of that trainer work is finally paying off? So I am cruising down the road easily, waving to my adoring fans, enjoying my new found speed. Nice day, no wind, quiet. Then I hit the turn around mark.......WIND!!!!! Seems I had a nice tail wind and on the way back I paid for it. 16.8 mph pushing. Did the loop 3 times and my numbers with the wind look great but coming back, not so great. So how is Garys team doing on their time? Are we kicking some tail? |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey folks...I am back.....sorry to be gone so long....after my trail run I had a physical scheduled for that Monday...turn out I had a small Tufts fracture in my giant toe on my right foot but the doc said since it was not in the joint if I could stand the pain I could run last weekend in the relay....I took the week very very easy and ran with my team. Check out the Texas Independence Relay....203.2 miles of pure Texas running....we finished 12 of the open men's teams even though we had 2 women, we couldn't be coed because you need three women to be coed. We ran an 8:26 pace for the entire run and finished in about 28 and a half hours. Let me tell you, we had a team dinner at our house on Friday night, had 10 people crash at our place, got up at 3 to get everybody moving, the vans packed and roll to the start about an hour and a half away and THEN I only slept one hour Saturday night....I have spent the whole week trying to catch up as I have been travelling and it has been a tough week. I ended up running about 20 miles of the relay and it was wicked cool running at 3am in the pitch dark....I turned off my headlamp and just enjoyed the dark countryside. You could hear the cows moving about in the pastures around us. It was a very cool experience and I will definitely do it again next year. Since I am all about the bling....the medal was a replica of a cannon barrel...three dimensional - very cool Hopefully I will be able to post more regularly now. By the way, if you are on Facebook, ask to be my friend, I posted several pics along the way during the relay but couldn't get this thing working on my phone....aaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!! sTRIve |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bryan, welcome back! your race sounds amazing!! I can picture you running in the dark, I would LOVE to do smth like that. And your pace-wow, you guys are fast! Sorry about your toe, but glad you are able to keep on running! I looked you up on FB and sent a request to the only Bryan Reece who could be you... hopefully, it *is* you. ~~~~ I did 13 miles today... raining here non-stop, and I didn't feel like getting sick before the race, so I ran on the dreadmill. The run felt really good and even my endurance pace is getting faster at the same effort, woot!!! Saw the shin chiro again and he did more ultrasound therapy to break up all the scar tissue and fitted my orthodics into my shoes, so i"m going to break them in over the next couple of weeks and hopefully, no more shin stuff! I also scored a pair of pink Kayanos, so I'm totally excited about my girly footwear hehe Now feeling a little crappy with a small fever, hopefully, rest tonight will take care of that.. |

![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I rode a bit over 32 miles today - MAJOR HILLS, and MAJOR WIND... sooooo fun going up hill into the wind - ahhh good times ![]() Actually, I met up with a major hill today that I had climbed once about a year ago - I went up it MUCH easier today than back then - I almost broke my arm patting myself on the back... some of the hills we did today were brutal - no other way to describe it... total ascent 1800 ft for a total elevation change of over 700 ft ![]() Gary, As I was going down hill at 29 - 35 mph, I thought about your measily 19mph and laughed - but when I was climbing up the hill I was down to 6-9mph and it was you who got the last laugh... |

![]() | ![]() Diane, nice ride!!!!! Glad you had fun. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree with Mav - a base is critically important. It is interesting that I have done several events already this year with minimal training. I am not trying to necessarily PR but doing the events to do something fun with my fitness. As that base builds you can get away with some of that. However, now it is back to serious training for me....the season is beginning. My next event is a half marathon in April. We will finish on the field at The Cowboys Stadium and our finish will be projected on that huge screen....I can't wait to see me that BIG..... sTRIve |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope everybody had a nice weekend!!! I got a nice 13 miler in on Sat am and then we got hit with a virus thing last night.. My little 10 month old threw up twice on Friday and has been feeling a little off, and yesterday, it was my turn-throwing up, not being able to keep anything down, things were swimming, it was horrible. I finally got a couple of hours of sleep by the morning and was feeling a bit better, though totally exhausted, and this morning, DH got hit with the same thing... so even though I have a fever and feeling crappy, he's feeling worse, so I've been up with the kids all day. We left for an hour to go to the library, come home and find him passed out. Whoa. (he's better now). Now my 4 yo is running a fever, I hope that's all he gets! Ready for this thing to go away! On a brighter note, I saw my sports doc and he fitted my new orthodics into my shoes, so I hope my shin concerns will soon be a matter of history! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yep a challenge but it looks like today is the last day! Will add up the hours tonight and calculate. Weird thing last night. Had my long ride with the wind on Friday, 30 min ride on the trainer yesterday, then spend 2+hrs on my feet volunteering at the soccer tournement. Legs were sore last night but overnight, OMG! Woke me up several times in pain (not my knees but my calves and thighs). Today I am okay and will try a run tonight. Cut back week coming up and bike going into the shop for a tune-up. Will enjoy this week! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Marianne, Billy should be back, since he was supposed to "start kicking my butt" today. Of course, I'm sick and out for the count, so i have no idea how that's going to go... but i *think* he's back. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ah, just kidding, we will start the challenge on the 1st of April so you can heal/get well. Gary, I logged about 3 hours running and 2 hours swimming in Belize for our challenge, hope it helps the team. Gotta go. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dude, that's great, because I was up all night, semi-pukey myself, with my 4 year old, throwing up.... Hey, how did your trip go? Tell us all about it!!! |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will add up everyone's total tonight as well. If you haven't been logging on BT, please let me know your training times. I know I haven't been posting much. I have been super busy with family, work, and training. I went to an awesome Triathlon symposium this weekend in Indy. I only got to stay half the day but was able to attend a couple break out sessions and get a really good massage at the expo. This woman had hands of steel and worked out some kinks. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, I have a few minutes so I will tell about my trip. It was great. I went to a boys vo-tech school outside Belmopan, Belize. I had been there once before last year for their graduation, so I knew most of the boys. I couldn't believe the difference in the boys in less than a year, most have matured an incredible amount in the 9 months since I was there, both as young men and spiritually. I won't get into the preaching thing because I know it bugs some people, but God is truly at work in this school. He is awesome! Now, I did get to work out a little while there. You might ask where I was able to find a pool to swim, go ahead, ask. Ok I will tell you, (and post pictures later), I swam in the Belize river and it was the most beautiful river I have ever swam in my entire life. Light green in color, but I was able to see about 4 feet when I was standing in the water. Amazing, just wish I had my goggles with me. It didn't stop me from swimming, but it would have been even better. Current was just a little slower than my swim speed so every once in a while I would stop swimming and float back to my starting point and start again. Did this 4 days. The director of the mission wouldn't let the boys swim every day so I didn't go either. As far a running, I would get up at 5:15 and run on a gravel road in front of the school for about 3 to 4 miles. Had to be careful not to step on a large rock (or tarantula) in the dark and twist my ankle. A couple of the boys starting getting up in the morning to run with me, now that will motivate you to get up! We would talk about just about anything they wanted to. It was very good quality time. I will post pictures of them as well in a few days. While running I saw, 1 tarantula, 2 tucans (fruitloops birds), heard several howler monkies, (you should look them up on line, freaky at 5:30 in the morning), and a bunch of other birds I couldn't even start to name. I found out the the Ironman quest gave me a lot of things to talk to the boys about, kinda all makes sense now, maybe, just a little. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Based off Gary's comments, I find this REALLY interesting. I don't have Bryan's numbers yet but POYL has over 59 hours of S/B/R. Hmmmmmm........... This is getting interesting. |
