Veteran 118![]() | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullGlad to see everyone posting, and to hear about everyone's training success! Just ordered my road bike tonight!! I pick it up tomorrow at the store. 2011 Trek 1.5 with Speedplay pedals. It was the first one that had came in to the store, so they weren't even finished with assembly yet. It's supposed to be a pretty decent entry level bike, so I'm stoked! I'm excited to see what difference in speed I get. Edited by bscoles1 2011-02-24 9:47 PM |

New user 19 Katy | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullI made it the full 2 miles! Wohoo! bscoles-hope you love your new bike. I love mine. It is great to have a bike that the gears work. Foggy-I thought my neighborhood pool opened March 1st. It has for the past several years, but I just checked the website and it says not until April 30th. I was really looking forward to a 25 foot pool instead of the 17 foot pool at the Y. It is plenty warm enough for it to open. It is strange that 3 weeks ago the schools closed because of ice and now it is 80 degrees outside.Rachel |

Especially after our day here of rain, hail, funnel clouds, more rain, and COLD...ug. My workout was back at the gym tonight--5 minutes walking warm up, then 1.5 mile run/20 minutes--then walking to even out the last 5 minutes....A new record of running for me...Yay! |

Veteran 118![]() | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullHuge success in the Anthem 5K this morning. It was a very cold 32 degrees out, but thankfully no wind chill. My realistic goal was to finish under 27:00, which would put me just under 9 minutes per mile. I figured that was right about where I was in getting my fitness and speed back. So I started off the first mile feeling pretty good in 8:16, and I thought 'well, I wonder if I can keep this going'. The second mile had a slight uphill for a bit, and I eased off to an 8:25 pace. The third mile I peeled the hat off and tried to empty the tank as much as possible, and had a 7:52 mile. Coming down the chute for that last '.11' of a mile there was a huge crowd of spectators cheering and clanging cowbells, etc. so that really got the adrenaline going, and I basically sprinted to the finish. It's really fun to be passing people when coming up to the finish line. Soooo, I finished in 24:59! Yay!!! 2 minutes under my goal!! And I beat my buddy by 1:13. So it was a great morning. Now I looking forward to the 10K in two weeks, to see how I do there. I hope everyone else is having as awesome of a weekend workouts as I am. Loving it! I may hop on the bike trainer later today and get in a workout on the new bike. Cheers, Bobby |

New user 19 Katy | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullWay to go Bobby! It is great to beat your time. Brrr to the 32 degrees. Cold weather is part of the reason I have had a hard time the last couple of months. My southern blood doesn't take the cold well.I walked .8 miles in 20 min, swam 100 yrds in 4:30 min and did some strength training and stretching. I took it easy on the walk and swim because I'm not feeling 100%. The weather is causing my ears to hurt which gives me a headache which raises my heart rate. I wanted the workout because sometimes it takes the headache away and I do feel better now. How's everyone's weekend going? Tomarrow is my planned rest day. Rachel |

New user 19 Katy | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullI'm a little nervous about signing up for a race. I was wondering if I would be ready to do the Capital of Texas Triathlon-First Tri Distance which is Swim 437.45 yards Bike 6.21 miles Run 3.11 miles on May 30th. |

Veteran 118![]() | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullFoggyGoggles - 2011-02-26 4:45 PM I don't think you'll have a problem with the tri at the end of May. Of course, that will depend on how you're feeling in your training but it is a feasible goal. And if you're anything like me, it's always nice to have a goal to work towards. Foggy Ditto. That distance seems reasonable to set out with a few months to train. And once you are signed up for the race, then you have a definite reason to stick with the training. Gotta make sure you are ready come race day. At least that's how I keep myself motivated. You can do it Rachel!! |

I was stuck at work due to my truck having a minor battery issue (all fixed now ). The funny thing is that I wasn't as worried about my truck being broken as I was about possibly missing my first triathlon coaching session/class tomorrow---I guess I really AM hooked! ![]() |

Expert 716![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - Fullkgore - 2011-02-23 11:52 PM The brand is "Aeroskin California"...I'm reasonably sure that it is not a wetsuit ideal for racing in... ..Tonight I did a mini-indoor triathlon, run by the coach I'll be training with over the next few months...It was very simple and basic: 20 minutes in the pool (fins + kickboards ok), then 20 minutes on spin bikes (changing resistance as required by coach), and then 20 minutes on the treadmill (although half of us had to get on ellipticals--not enough treadmills). In any case, I made it through it, and I was actually surprised; it wasn't easy by any stretch, but it could have been a lot harder...It was definitely a decent workout for me though! That is a diving suit, it will not give you the same feel or benefits of a tri wetsuit, but it will keep you warm in the water. |

I struggle with that. I'm looking forward to the first tri report and how the 5K goes. My workout today was a 20 minute walk, 0.7 miles and 100 yard swim, about 4 minutes. (for got my watch at the pool, again). I've been struggling with getting to the pool at the Y but I made it today. Tomarrow, another attempt at 2 miles on the bike. Rachel Keep moving forward, one day it will "click" and you will feel it |

New user 19 Katy | Subject: RE: Big Daddy Diesels New to the Sport Group - FullI took the plunge and signed up for the Memorial Day race in Austin. Its about 2 hours away and my husband said he would come and cheer me on. I think that will help me get over the 10 week hump I had trouble with in November. As far as training-I rode 2 miles yesterday and walked .9 miles today. I'm feeling good and am excited and scared about Memorial day. BDD-I live in Katy, TX just outside of Houston. There are a lot of races, it is just that they are all on Sunday and I don't want to race on the Sabbath. I know it will make finding races harder, but I will live with that. Last year there were several Saturday sprints in the fall and they were close by so I am hoping to do one then. Rachel |

Stick with it!! I had a challenging 2500m swim this morning, and a low intensity 60 minute ride on my lunch break. Kept my heart rate in zone 2. Bobby |
