Veteran 202 Tucson | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Got out this afternoon for a short swimmy -- I'm up over 20% (ok, it's 22%), and will try to work in a longer swimmy tomorrow. I'd also like to ask the more experienced among the group how to become more coordinated in the water. I started swimming just a couple of summers ago -- took some lessons and have progressed from being a lump in the water and having one hand that didn't come out of the water at all, to at least having length in the water, both arms coming out, and using alternate side breathing (which helped the arm thing). However, my arms and legs don't really work well together. Any thoughts, drills, that could help that? Thanks |

Expert 1202 Montana | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Got my 2000 in before I left for skiing this morning. It is weird, you know, to spend some time in the water, and 40 minutes later, you are swingin' your legs from the chair lift. Wahoo for MONTANA! |

Clearly, I'm a little behind on thread-reading... busy couple of days. However, late or not, I like the way you think... hmmmm... I think I said this before on this thread in reference to a similar topic... oops.

They are all under 20% and some under 10%. Let's go inspire them! AGREEEEED!!! Mila, time for you to get that wip out and I think floging needs to be administered. GO Team. Under 28% for today: AlexB ; barbercl ; Donto ; kpb421 ; madkat ; runnerg1rl7 ; Under 20% and need lots of TLC and inspires!!! Colesdad ; gracetheterp ; stilltri-ing ; wurkit_gurl ; jacsuza PS: Data from above is from the update I did on the spread sheet at 09:20 AM PST. As a Team we are on track, but as the month ans people start reaching 100%, we will be falling behind the rest of the competition. You are all commited swimmers as this is our challenge, and you will surprise yourself on your next race after this month challenge as you stay on your goals, if not even surpass your monthly goals. They were goals set to achieve a goal, and I know you will all achieve that. GO TEAM!! I am ON IT... well, not exactly at the moment, I'm out of town without my whip. I was afraid I couldn't get it through airport security... but I can come up with something equally terrifying/exciting, depending on your mindset . As a side note, while standing in line for security I was stuck in front of the "items you can not carry on" display. Ummmm... a leaf blower? WTF? Who takes a leaf blower in their carry on baggage? I digress... I still need to update my numbers for the week on the spreadsheet. Next on my list as soon as I finish catching up on the thread. Is there anyone who still needs help inputting their distances? Let us know. |

Pro 4216 Sous Mon Diadème | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Yes, it appears that I am sitting around talking to myself. I am OK with that, though. I just wanted to encourage those of you who are behind on your swim goals to get in the water and move from one end of the pool to the other in whatever way works for you. Right now. Use a kickboard. Do lots and lots of drills. Swim a variety of strokes. Doggie paddle. Seriously, though, any of these things can count towards your goal and getting into the pool is half the battle. I do NOT want to change my avatar . Now swim! |

Elite 3072 san francisco | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Hi guys, So today the pool was open thank goodness. Got in my 1100 but more importantly, first 400 non stop since November! Getting in the pool 3x a week sure does work...and shorter breaks between 200 sets...woo hoo! To our captain and co-captain, I think I have extra yardage than what I really swam, because I went into the spreadsheet one day and added my own...so it should be 5000 now including today. p.m. me if you have any questions. Go Swimming Rocks! Have a great weekend! Kim |

Veteran 149 Quebec city | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks aquinn - Do you think I can improve my swimming by going only twice a week - if I swim for an hour each time? The distance from my house to the pool with the pool schedules, work schedule and kids' sports schedules is going to make 3x a week not likely many weeks. Some weeks, yes. This really bums me out- I WANT to swim as much as I can. But what will happen if I have to go down to two? Throw some thoughts at me. Yes you will improve at 2 times a week. Just try to focus on the things your coach told you and practice it. If you can go for a third time in a week take it as a bonus. I'm swimming since 2 years and a half now (at first I couldn't do more than 25m!) and now can log swims between 3 to 5000m. I was swimming 2 times a week and sometimes 3, so there is hope PS: By the way, even if you can jump in the water for 15 to 20 minutes it is worth it. You'll keep that "feeling". |

I have the same problem, my kick isn't strong at all and my legs are kinda sinking. I'm trying to do a lot of kick drills to make it an automatism and it's slowly getting better. Other than that, might want to look for a coach or some other lessons? Good luck! |

Thanks, Steve- I am glad to hear that there is hope for me yet. I am very committed to swimming, but now that getting a 45-50 minute swim in takes me nearly 2 hours with the drive, it's gonna be a lot harder. That's what I was hoping to do- plan two set in stone, sneak in a 3rd when I can. Thanks for your post. |

This girl's training week is done- tomorrow, I ski! Woohoo! Way to go! Have a great time skiing too! I got in my new wetsuit yesterday and within about 15 min, I decided that it just wasn't the suit for me Such a bummer But....this morning I went into Nytro and found a perfect wetsuit. So, I just have to return the other one and I'm set! I had a quick OWS at La Jolla cove - it was wonderful. 75 degrees outside without a cloud in the sky, clear water so I could see all the fish and kelp forests, just beautiful. |

Extreme Veteran 877 Pa | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks I snuck in an extra 1000 yards today after my lifting session. Both the lifting and swimming were difficult to do after my long run (a few hours after). Wasn't that long of a run compared to what my long runs used to be, but I'm getting back up there :-) The run felt fantastic, though, but I guess this is a swimming challenge, huh ;-) he he. If I can, I'm going to try and sneak in another few yards tomorrow after bike and before soccer :-)

Expert 784 Computerland | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks I swam 9hr and 20 mins so far this month. This week also concluded with a swim meet, where I swam my 2nd best time in the 500 free. I am now at about 44% of my goal- more then I ever thought I would do. I also logged my longest number of swimming minutes this week for the entire year! Thanks for the inspiration everyone! P.S. I need all my info put in into the spreadsheet because I am unable to acess it. Thanks! |

Veteran 182 Hillsboro, OR | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks I got in 20 minutes today. The triathlon club I work out with had a "practice" Tri today. We did 20 min swim, 30 min bike on spin bikes and 20 min run outside. I did 900 yds (11:03/500 yds), 6.7 miles on the bike (although I don't believe miles is a good measure on a spin bike) and 2.3 miles in 23:00 in the run (10 min/mile). Not too bad. Especially the run. That's the fastest pace I've done ever.
