gobluedds - 2009-01-17 3:34 PM 30 does sound like a heat wave.  It's a white-out blizzard here.  We're expecting between 6 and 8 inches of snow by morning.  Wind is howling so windchills are hovering around -30.  YAY!  It's too dangerous to even go out to the gym.  Looks like no running today.  Will work on core moves and Yoga this evening,  then double up my runs for the next couple of days to make up for misses yesterday and today.  Kids having birthdays sure can mess up a training schedule, but at least there is cake!  =)

Yuck!!! Spring can't get here soon enough!

jhouse4 - 2009-01-17 7:40 PM I just ate a horse shoe and had three uh, waters at D'arcy's with ABake. Talked races and other general riff raff. Weighed myself and I am still 7 lbs over race weight need to drop those before Tampa!

Yeah, you can't get horseshoes like that in Chicago.  Mine had onions and some kind of spicy stuff in the cheese sauce.  The humanity...

kromanowski - 2009-01-18 10:33 AM So I have a terrible sore throat...no other symptoms but the throat is killing me. Got my ride in yesterday. I am supposed to swim and run today...I think I am going to consider it a victory if I can get the run in and I will do the swim tomorrow which is supposed to be a rest day.

Oh no, take care of yourself and don't push too hard.

lghays - 2009-01-18 12:07 PM

I just got back from a short run (2 miles).  My goal was to do as little walking as possible.  Made quite a difference.  My average pace came down to 13.06 min/mile.  Down from about 15.

The only problem was the air.  I have asthma and sometimes the air quality affects me.  For about the last week we've had a weather inversion going (cold stagnant air down low, warmer air above).  We've had bad air warnings every day.  Since a lot of people around here still heat with wood the air can get yucky.   Anyway, I could feel it today.  It'll be nice to get out of this for a couple of days.

Hope everyone has a fun weekend.  Enjoy the football while is lasts.

Nice run, I have a bit of asthma too.  Some days are more challenging than others.

Got a 2008 Trek 2.3 on closeout.  Picking it up at the bike shop tomorrow.  They are installing the computer and fine tuning a few things after my first fitting. Got it for half of what they are listing the 09's for.  *doing the happy dance*

Got a nice ride in on the trainer and some weights.  Thanks to Writebrained for posting the link to Ironman Kona, that kept me entertained and motivated while on my spin-to-nowhere in my kitchen.

I found this good article about the origin of the horseshoe sandwich. I have to admit that even though I grew up in Springfield, I did not know how it got its somewhat strange name.

6 miles from Washington Park, alternating one mile easy with one mile at tempo pace (gee where did THAT idea come from?)

So we went skiing today.  My knees are a bit achey this evening.  Even with the exercising I've been doing my legs still get tired.  Some extra water and a good night's rest should take care of it.

I was going to go for a run tomorrow morning before we head home.  But I forgot to pack a very important piece of clothing.  So I'll have to wait and do something after we get home.  There always seems to be something that I forget.

Ski Report for anyone who cares:  This weather inversion was giving some unseasonal spring-like conditions.  The temp at the house (elev. ~2000ft) was 21F when we left.  At the top of the mountain (6300 ft) it was 45F.  We were shedding layers throughout the day.  We all had a good day.  Even the 4-yr old was skiing without a tether on the bunny hill.  Before we know it he'll be bombing down the slopes with me screaming behind to slow down.
