dewcubs,

I think you should go for it.  You will be ready and I know what you mean about winter, I live in Michigan.  Do you have a bike trainer?  Maybe you can purchase or borrow a bike trainer for the winter.  That would be awesome to do one at Disney.  You will be ready no doubt about it.

How was everybody's weekend?  I spent mine doing yard work and shoveling 2 ton of stone.  I would rather have been swimming, biking or running.  I have 2 more ton to shovel this week Yell .  Hope everybody has a great week.  Plan on doing a 5k Saturday.  Just found out I have to work Thursday and Friday night, dam.  Anyway got pay bills right haha.

I didn't work out as much as I wanted over the weekend but I believe I had one of my best ever runs on Saturday morning.  I was scheduled for a long zone 2 run...I think 90 minutes.  I originally planned on swimming before the run but couldn't drag myself out of bed that early on a Sat.  I did manage to get up and hit the sidewalk and I felt AWESOME.

I was able to run at a great pace for me while keeping my HR under control and in zone 2 for almost the entire run.  I felt like I could have gone on like that for hours.  Every once in a while you have those workouts where you finally see tangible evidence that you are improving and it motivates you to keep trying and investing the intensity so that you get more days like that in the future!

Yeah dewcubs, I don't think there are any issues with preparing over-winter for a spring HIM.  Now, make sure you get registered in case the race is one likely to fill up early!!

That is ample time Dewey to lay down a strong base and go into the HIM strong.

I shipped out the dvd's today.  Please let me know if there is a problem with any of them... Hopefully, everyone should receive them before weeks end.

Good luck!  The methods work...but the video ain't no action thriller I tell ya!

Everyone has been posting some great sessions in the TL's ~ kudos to a great group!

Thanks all, I thought I would have enough time.

Another question...does the chamois cream stuff really work well?  I have yet to go straight from the pool to the bike and I want to do a little preventive measurement if you know what I mean

That's absolutely a good idea, particularly in longer distances.  You just have to make sure it's not water soluble.  Some of the "chamois butters" are.  I know BodyGlide works fine, but others may want to chime in.

I only use chamois butter on long bike rides (no swim involved).  On swim bricks and on my HIM last Nov.  I didn't use any and I was fine.  For IMFL... I am thinking the extra minute in T1 to lather up will be well worth it.

Using chamois butt'r or assos, I would use a larger than normal amount and you may want to rub it onto the chamois itself as well as your skin.  If the water washes some off, there should still be enough to get you through a HIM.  Sprints/Oly...IMO - they are not long enough rides to really call for it...but everyone is a little different and their junk/girly bits respond a little differently to the ride.  Try it out several times in training (use/no use) and see which suits you before race day.

I have never used Body Glide for that purpose, only wetsuit chaffing (neck/arm pits), but I have read many people like it and use it often.

Details in my log.

The "I've run over Jackson Club?".....just kidding.  Glad you are ok, but man, you've been busy.   A near drowning incident over the weekend and now a bike crash?

Poor guy - he looked totally pathetic after, like he really knew what he had done.  I would have preferred him being a viscious pit bull or something.

Ugh. Big dogs scare me.  Thankfully my first response is to scream like a little girl and that seems to detour them on a run...I'm not looking forward to a biking incident.  Get well soon, tough guy!

Geez you have not had the best luck!!!  Hopefully everything is OK.....

Another note for us newbies....I felt like something just wasn't right with my bike fit so I went into the shop when the professional fitter was there....Well he took me in back and put my bike in the trainer and immediately said well your seat is angled wrong...I then sat on the bike and he looked at me real funny and said "hmmm, that doesn;t look right"  He took some measurements and about four adjustments up later had teh seat at the right height..it was more than 4 inches too low.  Next he flipped the tongue(?) the handlebars went in and angled it differently.  He said he had never seen a bike adjusted so improperly.  Nice!!!  He said I probably was not using my Glutes hardly at all.  He also said my back had an arch and I should now be able to see a vast improvement in my speed!!!  I am pumped for my next ride!!!  Unfortunately I am roofing my house the next 4 days so I won't get to ride until Monday or Tuesday.  Moral of story...GET PROFESSIONALLY FIT!!!

I want to get fit, but don't want to spend the money

Competitivecyclist.com's calculator told me I needed to raise my seat almost an inch, though.

Hey, on an unrelated note - The layoff from running is paying off:  I reached 15000 meters in May.  That's twice as much as April and more than I swam in all of 2008!!

Way to go! Persistence really pays.  You're awesome and an inspiration...it's also nice to know that if we do get injured we can still go on...

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  I have a long ride planned for Sunday - pseudo group ride... 68 miles and some hills.  I am really excited about this ride ~ cuz I have really been slacking on the bike lately... I need some bike induced pain in my life!  Going through withdrawls!

Any other big plans for anyone else?  Be safe and have fun (whatever you choose to do!).

Good job getting back into the swing of things - that's definitely ONE way to do it

No BIG plans for me, hopefully just a couple of dog-free rides.

Good deal... well I know that is two rec'd then.  Enjoy, I hope you are all able to get something from it... Unless it makes you faster than me...then you must forget anything you learn!

Thanks Jeff ~ it does feel good to have a little more consistency back in the plan!  June HAS to be better than May....  June will be finished off with a tremendous race!  Super stoked!
