thebrayon - 2009-06-28 6:52 PM Hello team,

Been slow this week in terms of training. I was away to a business conference Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The schedule was pretty packed and could not fit anything except shopping for triathlon cycling shoes. I know what I want, now I just have to order them.

This weekend was also our annual taekwondo weekend. We rent a cottage (a big one) and have tons of activity. I did my first OWS this morning while at the cottage. I managed to put my full lenght wetsuit. It is still a little tight, but I could get in and swam around 1km. When I bought it many years ago I probably had 15 pounds less. Plan on loosing these pounds in the next months.

I also ran 15km just before dinner.

How was the OWS for you?

I did my first Olympic distance triathlon of the year yesterday.  I had a pretty good race and only finished a couple of minutes off my PR.  1st class event with around 1400 finishers.  Race report is here if you're interested.

Not bad considering that my wetsuit is still tight and I felt chocked at first. Got used to it and swam 20 minutes. I have another one with half legs and arms that fits me very good, but I really want to fit in my full lenght suit for my tri's this summer, particularly the HIM in September.

I may be doing a triathlon this Wednesday. It is a holiday here, and a bunch of members of the triathlon club are organizing an unofficial triathlon (no timing, no marked course, no entry fees.....and a BBQ at the end). The lenght as I understand it is somewhere between a sprint and an Oly. I just have to plan everything because I also have a family activity scheduled the same day. I am trying to fit both activities....will keep you posted.

Good luck hope you get to do both, went on a ride today with a friend from work and he punctured a tire we tried tubing it to see if we could make it back and popped the tube about 2 miles out. Sorta sucked but we laughed about it later. Try again tomorrow to get a decent ride in, run with recruits this afternoon. These early runs are brutal on my shins so slow I do not know why but it just blows my shins up.

That sucks about the flat.  Those are never fun.  I thankfully haven't had one yet this season.  *knocks on wood*

So is it the slower pace that is hurting your shins?  I always feel that when I am running slower that I am making more of an impact with the ground on each stride.  The faster I go, the less time my feet spend in contact with the ground and the less stress on the legs from hitting the ground.  At least that's what it feels like to me.

Yes I run slow but these first runs with the recruits are often at 12,13,14 minute pace and we stop and start a lot to keep everyone together. Just kills for some reason.

woke up this morning, (no prior pain, no twisting, no banging into anything) and went to get out of bed and had a shooting pain in knee that put me on the ground. Walked around and felt fine but went to go up steps and again intense pain. Skipped morning workout and am walking fine but any type step kills, any ideas??

Well I got to do the triathlon. The family activity was cancelled. The weather was not so nice, but was perfect for a triathlon.
The distances were 1300m swim, 35km bike and 7.5km run. We were 15 and really had fun. It went really well, managed to use me full length wetsuit without a problem. Transitions were a little slow since we had to pack our stuff each time and the 2 transitions were not at the same place.
Over the last few years, all I did was sprint triathlons. This one was the longest in a long time. My last Oly was in 1998. It was too fun, I can't wait for the next one either July 18 or July 26 (or maybe both, but don't tell my wife). Actually I will do one with my wife on August 16. She wants to try one and I told her I would do it with her at her pace. It should be fun.

I have no idea what that could be.  Fortunately I haven't had many knee issues.  I would suggest taking a look at the injury forum on this site to see if anyone has had a similar problem.

Aside from that do what Luc said, give it some rest.

Sounds like a great practice tri!  You should be good to go for that Oly (or Olys )!

Hey, guys. Though I've been too lazy about logging, and in working out, I have continued to do about half of the training I should, and did a race this weekend.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

Inspire me!

Actually, I'm very happy with the race. I had some garden-variety problems, but my time is a solid first 10K effort and I feel fairly good today.

Yes, indeed. It supposedly is the world's biggest 10k. 55,000 people are registered in 11 time groups. So take my time with a small grain of salt -- I was more pogoing than running for about the first mile while I waited for the crowd to spread out.

That is a ton of people.  I did a race with 5000 people once and it took well over a mile to get the crowd thinned.  I can't imagine 10x that many.

Have a great race Kip.

I have just registered for a 10k race on Saturday. That should be fun. My wife is doing it also and both kids are doing the 1K.
I have 47:30min as my official objective, but I really would like to do it in 45:00. I used to be able to do 10K in 42-43 minutes when I was younger and in better shape.....but with the training, I am getting there....(not the younger part.....)
But don't tell it to anyone, it is my secret goal......

I will also be running a 10k on Saturday.  I won't be racing it though.  My little sister is running her first ever road race and I'm going to pace her.  Plus, I have a sprint tri the following morning so no need to go out and kill myself.
