My running analysis went good.  It was a short session to check out my cadence and foot strike and upper body movement.  He just looked at the big picture.  Turns out that my running form is right on.  No problems with upper body and my cadence is a perfect 90.  On hills, he wants me to take baby steps so I can keep my cadence at 90.  He also suggested that my shin splints could be due to a muscle imbalance.  He gave me a shin exercise.  I'm supposed to report back in a few weeks and we'll go over some more things.  I'd like to work on speed work.  I think that's where my form falls apart.  I need to get these shins under control first.

Great news! Good luck getting through those exercises. Did he show you the dixie cup trick for icing? Take one of the small bathroom-sized dixie cups (trust me, you want the SMALLEST you can find!), fill it with water, then freeze. Rub and and down your shins (towel/bucket underneath ), peeling away the paper, until it is gone. Pain like you would not believe, but it works!

Oh yeah!  I've been an icer forever.  That's why we have 3 freezers!  Ice in one, vegis and such in another, and fish, deer and elk in the other.

I didn't get my bike ride in yesterday.  My baby must be going through a growth spurt because he's nursing non-stop!  I'm exhausted!  I swear his clothes are tighter in the evening when I change him for bed.  If I'm not watching, he might do an Incredible Hulk move and completely rip out of his onesie!

ilucy2 - 2009-08-14 8:12 AM uhhhhummmm did someone say GOOD morning!! What is there to so happy about??? Sounds like he is enjoying his taper down. I am awake but have a most nasty headache, did not ride as scheduled, and may not later. I am doing a mighty long run on Sat and may let my legs rest today. Of course then I have to make up the bike later. Off to work... Check list: crossed eyes - coffee - bathrobe - slippers - files - computer. CHECK, I am working from home today, well unless they arrest a guy I am waiting for. Later...

hope the headache goes away quickly.  I apologize for being so chipper so early in the morning.  I get that way when it gets close to race day

barqhead - 2009-08-14 8:34 AM Good morning, (hope it gets better iLucy). I already have a 30 mile ride under my belt! My riding buddy and I did some nasty interval work at 6:45. If I weren't so sweaty, I'd have gone back to bed. I think my race on Sunday is going to be a painful experience. Oh well. It will be a good pain TGIF!

Pain is good   Hope you have a great time Sunday!

Got a run in this morning to make me 1/2 way through all training for the challenge. Didn't want to crawl out of bed at 6:00am for it but hubby was ready to head out. I told him I was going to stay in bed but he just did the ok and I felt guilty. Got up and ran. It was a cool morning to do it and I am glad to have it complete.

Happy Friday Team. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Good luck to those that are racing. We have running shoe shopping (hubby has been wearing the same pair for 2 years but he didn't run much - now that he is really into the working out thing he is going to go get fit again - YEAH for hubby) and then prepping for puppy that comes home on Tuesday evening. We are bringing two home since one goes to Chicago for my sister - thus my trip on Thursday. We will see if I survive two full size dogs and two puppies for 2 days

Uhh, I have a problem. When I put up my goals for this I forgot that I have an appointment on August 20th to get a tattoo. Not gonna be able to swim for a couple of weeks. Of course, I have to like the design before I commit to the ink. I'll let you know how it goes on the 20th and go from there!

Does this tatoo have anything to do with your recent IM finish?

Yeah--the wife wants me to get a tat after my ironman.  I'm not certain about this....

My brother has been trying to convince me to get a tat for the last 10 years.  I could never think of anything that I wanted to put on my body permanently.  I suppose once I complete an Ironman I'll consider some form of an M-dot.

i love tattoos... I have 7, but none of them are too big or too obvious. My recommendation is to put it somewhere you can hide it. watch out they are addicting =)

Yeah, my tat is IM themed, but it is an original design. You would have to look pretty hard to know that an M-dot is incorporated in it, at least from the drawing. It is really nifty and I'm excited to have it on my bod. I was lukewarm to the idea of having just an M-dot permanently etched on me. I'm getting the tattoo as a concrete reminder of the training, the journey, the race, and the strength, courage and perseverance required to get there

I think I'm blowing off today's 3 mile run. My kids did a youth triathlon this morning and I'm tired! Did not sleep well again last night and I really want to be rested for the pain that will be tomorrow's sprint

That's so cool!  I can't wait to see a picture of it.  What body part will it be on?  I have a couple of tattoos myself.  I'm planning on getting more.  I love designing them myself!  So much more personal and special that way.

I'm still not feeling great after being sick.  It really took a lot out of me.  I plan on getting a short run or ride in today, though.  Have a great day everyone!
