Happychick - 2009-08-05 6:47 PM Hey Erica (or anyone who has ever visited HI) ever go to Kauai?  We are going there for my birthday (did I mention my birthday is the 21st ) and I'm just now doing my research (I'm actually a really bad procrastinator so this is advance research for me) on where to stay and what to do ~ besides play on the beach!

I've been to Kauai, but it was on a cruise ship.  Of course I'd recommend those accommodations.   We had plans to go kayaking and snorkling that day, but the wind and wave conditions were so that they cancelled on us.  We ended up going to the Waimea Canyon, and it was a site to see!  I would have liked to hike around, but we were on a bus with old fogies (-- listen to her, she's in her 50s and she's calling other people old fogies -- ) so we had to move on.

My husband and I, along with another couple, decided this weekend that we are moving to Molokai to get away from it all.  Of course we decided that getting away totally wasn't the best idea, so my dh is going to be required to buy an airplane to get us back to civilization when we need a transfusion.  So anyway, will you come visit us?  We could run, or bike, or swim (UGH!), or even just lay on the beach.  Sound like fun???

ebshot - 2009-08-05 6:29 PM Speedwork sucks!  I cut it short.  I really need a good ole kick in the pants.  Seriously, if I don't complete my entire 3 miles tomorrow by noon, someone get over here and drag me out!  Enough is enough.

Speedwork is so hard by yourself!  You really need a Torture Dan (or maybe a Torture Cheri?) to push you.  My track club's recent newsletter had words of wisdom from a coach that I am really trying to take to heart.  He had two quotes back to back:

"Don’t always run alone."

and

"Don’t always run with others."

I think that applies to this situation.  I find that my speedwork is so much better with others, but my long runs are best done solitary.  Ya think???

BozNC - 2009-08-05 8:03 AM No race this weekend. Got a 30 mile bike ride in this morning before work. Pace was slow, worked on cadence. Hope everyone is having a great day. -Boz

that is quite the mileage before work....is this normal???

We were riding around lunch time but it's just too hot and humid now. I'm gradually increasing the miles each week to get ready for the Century race on Labor Day. Luckily I have a job where everything revolves around staying in shape and we have very flexible work out schedules.

sounds like my daughters work...you dont work for Active do you???

ebshot - 2009-08-05 6:54 AM I want to take the kids to do something fun today.  They have been spectacular throughout the entire house process and now I want to reward them with some good ole summer fun.  Too bad the weather sucks this morning.  I hope it clears up and we can hit the beach/pool/sprinkler park/lake or something.  If not, the park and ice cream it is!

ERICA

I hope your weather clears (definately not a pool day here either)

ebshot - 2009-08-05 1:51 PM I tried to go to the track to do my speed work but, there is a family event going on.  I am not about to try to dodge people again.  The last time I did that, I ran over a few dudes who were playing a softball game.  They didn't even look before they crossed the track.  Stupid men.  I plowed them over and told them to watch out.  So, I will try to go back this evening after dinner and maybe it will be empty and cooler too!

Men are stupid.

i agree.

haha...that's hilarious...I raced someone elses bike a few weeks ago there and NEVER again...it had absolutely no breaks...great suspension and really nice bike...but geeeeez I had no choice but to just let go and GOOOOOO. Honestly that is how I used to race...key word is USED TO...I now am more careful. I will definitely fly in some sections. Thanks Stacie...I will do my very best not to crash, too! My biggest rule to follow in biking is to never pass yourself! that's never a good thing to do! not that I havent done it a few times...

Hey SoSers, how's it going today?  It's morning here, and to my surprise it is 69 degrees outside!  It hasn't been that cool in a month of Sundays (as my grandmother used to say).  So I'm hoping for a comfortable run this morning.  My bike ride yesterday was sidetracked by tornado warnings, but it's still on the back of my car so hopefully I'll be able to get out this afternoon after w***.

I'm so ready for the weekend!!!  How about you?

I just read Stacie's reflections -- so insightful and inspiring!  I hope some of you take the time to go read them too.  She has quite the story to tell...  You know the old saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade"?  Well that's our Stacie through and through!

Finally (for now) - if you read Fat Cyclist blog - his wife Susan passed away from cancer.  If you have some free time drop a post in his blog - it was at 725 this morning already and he will read them all in due time.

Here is the link:

http://www.fatcyclist.com/

If you don't read his blog you might want to keep an eye on it - this guy is a warrior in the battle against cancer.  He loved Susan and showed it in all of his actions.

Well said Bill..

The guy is amazing...

I am getting ready to take Alex to the library.  She is making a puppet for a puppet show.  It's a really cute program.  While she is there, I am going to run my 3 miles.  I am thinking about running without music but I did make a new workout playlist just in case.

I think I shall find a friend to run with for my long run this weekend.  Then again, if I could find a 5k to run, that would be perfect.  Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

Got a swim in this morning once again confirming the obvious.. "MY SWIMMING SUCKS"!!!! My wife bought me the Blue Seventy swim skin a while ago. I was hoping that would make swimming easier but not so much.

On a positive note, my Garmin 310XT actually does work in water (just distance not heart rate).

Done with my run.  3.2 miles.  If you look at my lap data, you can see where the hills started.  Pretty funny.  I tried to have a better attitude about my run today.  I think it helped a bit.  I seem to go through this every summer.  And as Bry (husband) said to me this morning, I have asthma and the humidity kills my breathing.  So, I just need to accept it for what it is.  I suck at summer running and that is fine.  I might make a doctor appointment and see about adding some meds.  That might help too.

Thanks for listening team!!

WOW.....thats sooo sad...and completely grounded me! I am a 23 year cancer survivor and my heart goes out to him. We had some really scary times...but I can not EVEN imagine what he must have gone thru!
