Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SAWFISH50 - 2010-01-16 10:21 PM Well everyone I regestered for 5k on February 20.. so, wish me luck..... But, Best part is they have a 1 mile kids division so I registered my son also, He is 6. Best part is I get to cheer him on. I know I can finish the race no problem but not sure if I should set a time goal or just do my best. Tonight at the track I set a new PR of 32.24 5k back in September I couldn't even run the whole 5k distance and when I could My first times were in the 40 minute range. SOOOO do you guys think if I work these next 3 weeks hard and taper the last week I can break 30:00 or should I just go run without a time goal??? I agree with Ryan - cutting 2.5 minutes might be a little too much to ask. BUT, you could use this 5k as a baseline and go for a 32:00 as a target and then schedule an end of season 5k to chart your improvement. [I'm having trouble saying this, so take it with a grain of salt, I don't mean anything negative. -->] If you want to do well in the 5k, one of the keys is to run longer than 5k. Not just for your weekly long run, but also once or twice during the week you should run 4 or 5 miles. You've got to work that in with your real-life schedule and maybe the fact that your tri goals won't allow you to build up properly for a 5k PR. Anyway, if you set a minor PR for the 5k in 3 weeks and then work towards the bigger sub-30 goal for later in the year, I think you'll meet both of those goals. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a nice 10.xx mile run this morning. I felt really good on the second half and cruised home comfortable and strong. (I haven't looked at the data from the Garmin yet, so I could have been delirious and really suffering, but I felt great.) I do the usual Sunday morning routine of breakfast and food shopping with the in-laws, get home and get a venison stew going in the slow cooker for dinner with my folks (Lets go Jets!) and finally settle down to upload my data and check out my scheduled training for the week. Today is a step-back week and I only had to run 6 miles. Oh well. Still felt great during the run. |

I have a hard time keeping it down under 150. Id like to see a easy way to know how to get my max on both and how to use them..LanierSpots - 2010-01-17 7:29 AM < < You guys have a great Sunday Ryan Ryan - you know that your max hr/LT on the bike is different from the run right? So 140 bpm on the bike is not the same as 140 bpm on the run. Now, I don't know how they relate beyond the fact that max hr/LT is usually lower on the bike. One of my subgoals for the spring is to do a LT heart rate test for the run so that I can set my goals up correctly. Right now I have a "best guess" which is another word for "wrong" I have a "guess", like you but like you said, its just probably wrong. hahaThanks for the advice and keep it coming please. I do appreciate it. I am very green. |

Hilly course & traction poor, despite it all, got it done. Still trying to warm up! Oh well, that's a Canadian winter. Brother, you are hard core. I run like a little girl when it gets close to freezing. I like it to be atleast in the 40's. ![]() Nice run too. I am going to do a long run, for me, this weekend. I have it on my schedule... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Couple of Pics of this morning's run, if you are interested in a change in climate, from the same old boring sunny weather! We did a lighthouse run, the 2nd pic is coming up the ramp to the lighthouse, which is closed to vehicular traffic. The lighthouse is on the North Atlantic. Some of our group did not run this morning (smart in retrospect!) But came out to take a few pics.R (Lighthouse1.jpg) (Lighthouse4.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Lighthouse1.jpg (33KB - 13 downloads) Lighthouse4.jpg (24KB - 13 downloads) |

I wore shorts to work today, pretty much everyday, really. I'm cold just looking at this picture. Way to go!!! Scott It was good until we got to the lighthouse, I suspect the temp there had dropped considerably. When I was on the descent, noticed my fingers were very cold & then discovered the gatorade had frozen & I was holding an icecube. Had to dispose it, to get my fingers in a fist, in the glove, to warm them up, hence couldn't carry the bottle! I have friends who had fuel belts on, but not much help, when we finished the liquid was completely frozen in the belts. This is quite cold for us, most of the winter, we are between 25-35F. Oh well ![]() Edited by GoGoGo 2010-01-17 4:19 PM |

Once a week, I am going to do the P90X Core/Synergistics workout video. I have the series and it is pretty good. I will also do the Yoga routine once a week. Probably this week on Thursday. I also got in 10 mins of running jump rope. I love jump rope. Gets my heart rate up and does wonders for my calfs...You guys have a great night.Ryan |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the advice guys. I'll just do my best. 4 weeks isn't a long time to make a great improvement fact if I pushed too hard I'd probably just slow progress cause recovery times would extend. I'm looking forward to my son having fun and running in the same event. I did an easy run walk 4 miles at noon today and it was aparent that the speed session at the track last night left me tired cause I was pooped. No running tomorrow. gogogo No way I'd have ran in that weather you should get a medal for dedication. Great job guys keep up all the hard work. |

I run with a group every Sunday morning. I find this useful for the Long run, as it passes time. It also makes you accountable. If they are going to be there, so am I. The group exercise phenomena is very strong. I prefer to run shorter runs alone, as I can pace myself as I wish, but long runs are much nicer in a group setting. The Sunday group run, is the only way I could maintain my long runs in the winter! |

They provide a training schedule, some coaching and a group run every Saturday. At the end every one runs a Marathon Together. I can see where the accountabilty helps, but even so you are to be comended on running in that weather. PS: How do Gatoraid popcicles taste LOL!! Take care.. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi guys. The weather here in north Georgia was so nice today, I brought my stuff with me to work and got in a 3 mile run at Lunch. It was very nice... I am at 25 mins for a 2.5 mile run. Thats a pretty good time for me. For now, if I can average 10-11 min miles, I am happy.... I have a long one the weekend where I will try and run for time |

Member ![]() | ![]() I hit a new milestone today that I had to share. I'm working my way up to running a 5K. I started walking 10 minutes every other day back in August. I added 5 minutes a week until i got to 30 minutes. Then I started working in 2 minutes of running within that 30 minutes. Well today I hit 20 minutes of running and 10 minutes of walking, which means I ran at 4 minute intervals which is HUGE for me. When I started this back in August I would run for 45 seconds, and I felt like I was going to collapse! I'm almost there. Sometimes I can never imagine running for 20-25 minutes without stopping, but on days like today I think it is definitely doable. ![]() Have a great day everybody! |

You got me by two years so I can refer to you as old. haha I got home a little early so I had about an hour of sun left so I got on the bike and got in a 10 mile outdoor bike ride on my new bike. I am trying to learn how to ride this thing. My old bike was old. I mean very old. You dont even refer to it as a road bike. Its a 10 speed... Haha.. Not a bad day today. No big distances but some nice training. The 10 mile course is very hilly and was a nice little bonus.. Phil, I like the way you refer to your day as light. 45 min run and 1500m in the pool. LOL. Good evening everyone. |
