snaproll - 2010-01-24 11:13 PM Tough decision...  I can either run a half marathon in March or take a gig flying to the Bahamas for five days.  Wonder what I'll decide to do????

Fly to each island and run around the whole thing.

I will make a deal with you, how about if I go to the Bahamas and that way you can run the 1/2 Mary?

I'm sure you can fit a 13.1 mile run in while in the Bahamas.  Couple of loops around the islands?

Thank you all for supporting me whining through these weighty issues lately.  Zeefraug said it best when she told me to Buck up Buttercup!  This is a great group and I can't thank you all enough. YOU ROCK!!!!

Yeah-me too to the Bahamas. It is quite a sacrifice, but I think I could make it so you can run... the things I give up for my trainin mates...

My first tri is sunday so i gave it a trial run today. I felt really good after it was over. The run usually is my strong part but lately my hamstring and mid back are barking at me. The bike was a chore and when I hit the pool it was like a stroll in the park. I still get winded but recover much faster.  It is amazing how much better I feel than just a month ago.

Is this a reverse tri, with the run first?  Warm up well before the run and save a little for the bike.  The bike will be a chore.  I think its harder to do a run first, swimming is usually my warm up that is why I find the duathlons more challenging.  You are doing great.  Its got to feel good to know that you'll be able to do everything on Sunday.  Way to go.  Very smart doing a trial run today.  Take it easy at the end of the week and back off a little so you are fresh.  Excellent job!

Hey gang,

Just have to apologize for my lack of inspires this week. Work has truly been off the chain and I haven't had much time on the computer for anything but just logging my workouts and I'm truly sorry for not being more present with the group.

I just don't get home in enough time right now....I am hoping things will lessen up a bit or at least have time to catch up this weekend.

Just wanted to let you guys know I'm still here and still cheering for all of you!

Go team! Good luck Jeff this weekend!

Not feeling very inspirational the past couple of days...must be the winter doldrums...I need sun...warmth.....a nice sandy beach....a good book...a long swim in the ocean (without the book) .....

Speaking of books...reading Lone Survivor it is about the Navy SEALS and a mission to Afghanistan, a SEAL co authored the book. I am only about half way through but he describes the training they do to become a SEAL, his class started with 180 and only 32 graduated, brutal training, these guys are the elite of the elite, if you want to get inspired this is a great book. One of the nice tidbits that he uses to get through hell week is not thinking about the next hour or next day but just doing what is front of you at that moment..good advice for training and racing..one foot after the other...one stroke after the other....stay in the moment...if only it were that easy....but it is good practice.

Everyone have a great weekend....

I'm reading Jef Mallet's Trizophrenia at the moment. He's the "Frazz" cartoonist and does tris in his spare time - the book is absolutely hilarious. The Amazon link.

My training log looks pretty white.  It's been a hectic couple of weeks with work, weather, and computer issues.  I decided not to stress about it and look at it as an unscheduled recovery time.  I'm very hopeful that next week I can get back on track.  Thanks for the inspires.  Sorry I haven't been available to return the favor.  Here's to better weather and better luck next week!

HOLY CRAP ITS COLD!!!!!!   Who's idea was it to do a 5k in a month?  I want to give you an ice bath right now.

That being said, I am dreading the 5k next weekend but I guarantee you that I would've blown off my run today if I didn't have it planned, so thank you.

It was beautiful and clear out. I didn't wear a watch or a HR monitor or an ipod, just ran. It was very freeing.  I wore tights and long running pants, long socks, long wicking shirt and pullover, my underarmor headband and gloves.  Holy Crap.  I HATE anything around my neck so my pullover was open just to the base of my neck. It has a zipper on it and the cold metal literally left a cold burn on my neck. I am a wuss.  Hot shower is calling me.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Heather, are you doing trainerfest tomorrow?

I applaud all of you who live where it's truly cold and you guys are getting out there running, going to the gym etc. We're so spoiled in the south and we absolutely are wusses with the cold and even worse if there's a slight breeze. We're just not made for this type of weather.

So....I do stand up to applaud. You can leave those snowflakes up there...thanks

been a couple of days since the last training session. Had a bit of man flu ( head cold according to wife!!!)

got to the pool this morning by 8:30, fairly quiet which was good. My brother gave me a proper pair of swimming shorts. Felt very subconcious in them ( due to the fact of being 225lb and 5'10") not the picture of a swimming adonis. so had my usual board shorts over them. These normally slide down a tad but with the proper swim shorts i did the first length and found them near my knees!! stop laughing.

so i bit the bullet, got out the pool and took the board shorts off, pulled the stomach in and jumped back in the pool. Continued the warm up and felt pretty good despite lingering cold.

set out on my first 400m session, felt pretty quick and good. Previous best 400m time was 9:19. got to the end of the 16th lap (25m pool). stopped the clock and found it was on 8:25. bugger missed counted by 2 laps

set out on next 400m set, completed it in 8:20, what is wrong with my brain i have lost the ability to count lengths
so 3rd 400m set 8:22
then did a final 400m set and did an 8:28.
I can believe miscounting 1 or 2 times but 4.
Is this an occassion of right equipment for the job. were the board shorts creating that much drag.

I still cannot believe that by changing my shorts to tight swim ones that i shave a full minute off my time, my brother assures me it is possible.

IS IT?

if it is I am one happy puppy as the swim time has dropped by a full 2 minutes in the month. The session was 1800m in total in 45minutes. Good session

How has everyone been this week. site has been quiet. is everyone settling into the post new year feeling.

i will review my January goals in a while

Wow Mac, what a great swim!! Congratulations. I've been sick the last couple of days, but back at it this morning with the usual 90 minute spin class - I'm just heading out for my 13 now, but figure next week is a step-back week, so if things go horribly on the run (outside - brrrr), I'll call THIS my step-back week and do a full 14 next week. Hopefully not necessary.

Good news about the flu - I'm down another 2 pounds, despite another light workout week.

Couldn't do trainerfest because of the class, Jo (sorry, think Kev and I are both out of commission until that ends near the end of March). Considering signing up for the Monroe HIM and the Grand River Oly today.

What is the grand river oly?

I won't do Monroe-its a 3D event and I don't do their events.  Personal boycott, not that they miss me but I do it for me.  I am doing Hawk Island that day.  Its my FAVORITE event!   I love that tri.  That is where I lost my tri-virginity so it is special.

Jeff, how did it go today.  I'm sure you did great.  Can't wait to hear all about it.  You are a TRIATHLETE!!!!!!

3D is an event production company in Michigan that puts on the majority of the tris and has the best venues.

We had 4" of snow yesterday so the bike part was canceled. It was an interesting run this morning the temp was 4 degrees. we ran a 1 mile trail out and back on snow and ice. It was so nice to jump in that pool afterwards. I had a good time so the next tri is in 3 weeks.
