charles-goff - 2010-11-21 6:21 PM I guess it is time to head inside for swimming, the Coast Gaurd advised me today as I was geting ready to hit the water in the river for a quick mile, that I should stay out of the water until next spring. I'll take their advice, last year I ignored them and they came out and "rescued" me about 3/4 of the way through my mile swim. I was fine, but someone saw me in the water and called the rescue station. Apperantly my swimming looks a bit frantic from a distance. The rescue team are all friends of mine, so they had a good laugh at my expense when they saw who the were called to save.

Rode my bike up to the HS track to do some bricks this morning, a nice breeze and misty rain, but it was a great workout anyway. I ride 10 laps, jump off the bike and run 10, jump on the bike and ride 10, jump off and run 10 back and forth until I hit 30 min each. An hour of looking silly on the track is all I can handle in one day.

We got some lake effect snow this last weekend. Over 12 inches overnight. Now we're getting the arctic air. How long will it last? Long enough for some points today. Not that its really that cold but I did get more points for any one workout.

Even with the high today, I should still get some points on the bike but the running points might not happen. Hopefully I can take a break and go for a run before it warms up too much.
The 16 F high forecast for tomorrow and Thanksgiving day should make for some good points no matter what time I get out of the house.
Snow and lots of wind tonight though. Maybe I should call my son and have him wait until tomorrow to drive back from school.

Coldest run of the year so far. 17degrees with 23+ mph wind and snow flurries. Looks like we are going to have a white Thanksgiving.

yikes, coming off a mega cold last week but coming back to normal a bit.  got in a nice run at 21 degrees w/ 17 mph winds for 290 points.  seems like the weather is gonna start cooperating around here so time to lock and load!  gotta shake the residual gunk outta the lungs and will be golden.

Perfect weather last night for a run. 18 F with snow and wind. Today and tomorrow temps are even colder (currently 9 F) so should be able to get some good points. It stopped snowing though. I love to run while its snowing.

Does Jockstrapping count?  My wife is running her first "big event" tomorrow - a 4 mile turkey trot with 10,000 folks projected.  Forecast for race time is upper teens with wind chills creeping up into postive figures

Had a great 5k training run. I did 3 miles at an easy 15 min mile pace. Great weather today. 20 degrees, clear, with about a 10 mph wind. excellent weather to be outside and great for getting a few more easy point.

If someone would have suggested, even a month ago, that I would be excited that the temp is 14 degrees, I would have told them they were crazy. Now I can't wait for my lunch break so I can go for a bike ride before it warms up any more.

I know what you mean, I am looking out the window at the snow blowing sideways and thinking, if this holds out til I get to go home in an hour I will score points on the way home.
Then, I am thinking, if I can find the car registration slip, I take a ride to renew the plattes and get more points.

Its fun to have things switched for once. Bill is worried about it getting to warm and its plenty cold here. Just got back from a bike ride. 16 F with just enough wind to get bonus points. I can't wait to calculate the points. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze a run in between work and having to get cleaned up for the family movie night.

PS-I'm glad I dug out my tights this time. My ankles stayed warm.

I need to figure out what to wear for real winter running... Pre winter here and you'll find me running in my summer favorite super thin capris. Usually cut off right below the knee, but one pair is just above the ankle. What are the chances of getting frost bite on the lower legs on a typical non-blizzard winter day? I know the answer to this... wear pants. All of my pants are loose on the bottom which will get that area of my leg all cold and wet anyway.

What's worse, wet/cold/covered lower leg or dry/cold/bare lower leg?

Any other suggestions for someone who can't pay $100 for winter running tights/pants right now?

Yay!  Got my second qualifying event in!  And, as a surprise bonus...it was snowing!!!!  I counted it as a medium snow, too, since it was coming down fairly hard and had to squint to see through it (no glasses on...I could use some clear lensesLaughing).
