Wow!  That is a great looking bike!  You should not have posted tht for my wife to see!!!  I will be dealing with that for a long time no.

How do you post a pic in these replies?

I thought that might get you in trouble! LOL

While you are typing look below the text box. Check the "Attach a file after posting" box. Then hit submit and it will take you to a screen where you can browse and attach a file from your pc. You may have to re-size it to fit the data restrictions.

Ok, let me tri this again.  The pic was too big and I had no way to resize it last time, so I hope it works this time...

I purchased what I was really daydreaming of for the year or so, but I will definitely need some more essentials.  Leading the way right now would probably be  wetsuit.  Also, I have some store credit where I bought my bike, so I am thinking about some nice aero bars...

That is one great looking bike.  I LOVE the red!!  Congrats!

QOTD:  Tops on my wish list would be a power tap/computrainer.  I love me some gadgets!  I do realize, of course, that that is not anywhere in my future!!!

My goals for February are:
Running:  55 miles
Swimming:  8 hours, but I will be happy with even 6
Cycling:  8 hours

I really hope I can meet those!

What does everyone have on tap for the weekend?  I am planning a run for tomorrow, and a bike ride (on the trainer) on Sunday.  My husband is going to a Diaper Shower tomorrow for a friend whose wife is having a baby.  He will be driving my car, because his is still in the garage after his accident in the snow!  So I will have plenty of time to run tomorrow!

Have a good weekend!

Karen

The powertap is a great tool! I'm going to order some Hed jet 9's with a pt in the spring. I can get them fairly cheap through my team sponsorship.

This all depends on how my calf feels but I'm going to spin class tomorrow and then hit the pool. If my calf is ok Sunday I'm going back to my marathon plan and a 12 mile run. I'll do that early and then go out to breakfast with Anne and spend the rest of the day with her.

Teaching yoga this morning, and then spinning with my husband (thank God for childcare at the YMCA!) and then a short run. Coming home to spend the afternoon with my family and later on with some friends who are coming over for dinner. Tomorrow is church and then a run or swim and then family time!

My goal this month is to run 50 miles total, to get in at least 6-9 hours in at the pool and to keep spinning either in class or by myself 1-2x a week. I'm not too worried about the bike right now because starting in the spring we go biking nearly everyday. And I have my little one on the back of my bike so it's great resistance!! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Man, I would be embarassed to show a pic of my bike.  I love it though.  Also, as far as machines that we like, I still think the kettlebell and kettleworx program is my favorite.  It is everything I need in 1.  Also, I sweat more in 20 minutes of that than I do anything else.  My heartrate is through the roof and my legs are usually burning like I am going up a mountain on a bike.  For 50.00 it was my greatest fitness investment.  Both my wife and I are still doing it everyweek.  I have incorporated it into my Triathilon training.  I would not even be considering triathilon if I had not done 6 months of kettleworx first.  It is Yoga, Weight lifting, Cardio and Core all at the same time.  I have a question of the day.  "How should our Rest weeks go.  Should we have one a month?  What should the last week before the race be like as far as training.  My race is coming up soon.  75 degrees today.

I have been dealing with shin splints since way back in September or October.  Does anyone have any good advice on getting over these?  They have been keeping me from doing any real running, and lately, they have been keeping me from running at all.  I just don't want them to become severe.

This morning at spinning class, they began to start burning towards the end of the workout.  Shin splints shouldn't hurt when riding, should they?  Any information would be wonderful....

Fortunately, I've never had to deal with shin splints. Here's an article from active.com that might be of interest.

http://www.active.com/fitness/Articles/Dealing_with_shin_splints_af...

Unfortunately, most people I know that have them just have to rest and then start slow again.

Dale,
rest weeks are kind of personal. I've known people that do absolutely nothing and I know others that do short bursts of intensity. Typical race plans will have you cut back your intensity and distance over the last 2-3 weeks before a race. Personally, I like to stay a little active. It seems to keep me loose and feeling fresh. If I do nothing, I tend to feel stiff and blah. Over the course of your workout plan you should try to cut down on either intensity or distance or both every 3-4 weeks. This week was kind of a rest week for me. I took a couple of days completely off and my intensity in my workouts was very low. My first year of training I needed more time completely off because my body couldn't recover as quickly as it does now.

Sweet ride!  She really is pretty.  Maybe one of these days I will purchase a tri bike but my Madone roadie will have to do for now.  Been saving up for a wetsuit which will be my next purchase and then some clip on aero bars.

My wife was struggling with these as well.  Don't know if it was timing or mental, but she purchased some compression socks for recovery and now she is dealing much less with these issues.

Thanks for that info.  I have never really heard of these before, but I will be checking them out right away.  Are these socks to be worn before, during, or after a workout?  Thanks a lot because I will try anything (well, almost anything) to get myself back out there...

They have compression socks that are designed to be used while you run or just when your around the house or when you sleep. They also have compression pants and shirts that have been on my ever lengthening wish list. let us know how they work for you. That might not be a bad idea for my calf problem either. Good suggestion!

Hope you are all having a good weekend and getting in some good workouts. I got back on my marathon plan this morning with a nice long run. My calf seemed to hold up ok. Only a little tender. I think I'll ice/heat cycle it to ight and take some ibuprofen. Should be fine. Thanks for the stretches Erin!

oh, nevermind. michael said that you're talking about something completely different from what i have. he just showed me a picture- it's more for circulation and recovery than to keep you warm, right?

OK, so I know it's still Sunday, but I have a QOTD for Monday.  Everyone is getting ready for this year's races, but I would like to as what are your long-term triathlon goals?

For me, I did a Sprint last year, and I am training for a International Distance this year.  I would like to continue to advance to a HIM the year after.  Finally, on November 9, 2013 (my 40th Birthday) there is an IM in Wilmington, North Carolina.  I do not know if these goals are too lofty, but it would be a dream come true!
