Extreme Veteran 849 San Diego | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED I love that bike. It has good components, it's reasonably light, and it's served me well. I'm in no hurry to upgrade to carbon. My feeling is that I'm not a good enough cyclist for this to matter that much. I can gain way more speed by spending time in the saddle. As long as my fit is good and I'm comfortable on the bike, it works for me. And, it's awesome to fly past people who ride much newer bikes ...though that doesn't happen too often. |

After weeks of rain and gloom, the sun came out and it's gorgeous here. 60 degrees. I wore super cute new running pants today and I guess the whole getting fit thing is working because a car full of young men slowed down and yelled Nice Azz when they passed. That is awesomely funny! |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Smart call Kate! Getting well should be the priority so you can nail some longer or harder workouts. The less demanding stuff helps with weight control and mental health but not as much with race performance. Here's a nice dilemma I have been dealing with. My bike got too strong last year (from all the power-building intervals work) that it dramatically increased my bike times AT THE COST OF MY RUN TIMES. I came to tri as a runner and now I struggle on the runs comparatively. I finally nailed it by running a 3:53 IMFL mary, which is way off of my PR of 3:06 and my presumed stand alone Mary time based on the McMillan calculators. So did I really nail it? Although I felt good, I bet I could push it a bit more on the run and ease off the pedals a bit more. Its a really difficult algebraic equation to me. The word on the streets is that your run times should be no more than 10% over your stand alone run times. That means I should be able to run about 3:40. So you can guess what this year's goal for the IM mary would be. However, I am not prioritizing my IM as an A race and may even give it a miss to prevent burnout. My A race this year is the TTT-North Carolina, a weekend of hell I hope. Let's hear some more of your dilemmas, workouts, etc! |

Member 90 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Good to see everyone doing so well. You are all great motivation. I have been stuck with a sick 3-year-old for days. 24-7 as my husband has been super busy at work. I don't believe that watching hours of Winnie the Pooh is doing much for my fitness level, but it can't be helped. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. I was sick right before him, so it has been forever since I got a workout in. Now that the weekend is here (and I have help again) I vow to get busy! I want to get a trainer ride in today and try and sneak out for a swim tomorrow. Wish me luck. |

Extreme Veteran 479 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED i'll admit... the reason i went for carbon was b/c i got a ridiculous deal on the bike (bought it off of a guy who after a serious injury had to give up the sport altogether.) |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Still dodging ice flows up here. ran 6 miles today at a conservative pace. I broke my middle toe on a kid's toy 3 days ago while walking in the dark. It hurts like crazy for the first mile then feels better until I stop. Then I limp around for hours. Spin and run tomorrow. |

(i'm hoping it's contagious from this group!!) i finished my strength work (mostly upper body & ab/core work) but i'm pretty much quaking in fear already of tomorrow's chilly long run (not liking the look of that windchill) |

Member 24 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED I've had a big few days, so here is my check-in! This week I have managed to do at least one thing everyday - except Saturday, which was my day off. For that, I am very pleased. It's just been one sesh per day, but it's a good step up from the not-much-at-all I was doing! Next week my goal is to get to the pool at least twice. My working roster has settled down a bit now ... stepping in for the boss makes the hours regular!!! The pool is calling me!!! My other goal is to drink more water. I'm so crap at it. Need to improve. I happy with the way I have been training. I'm focusing on getting the time down, less concerned with how far, how fast I go. I'm thinking time on my legs and on my bike is a good thing to focus on as I tend to get ahead of myself a bit. I get impatient and then get injured. So for me, slow and steady will have to do it. Especially for a few more weeks! I hope everyone has a top week!!! Em |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Awesome work Em and tri4fun73! I also like how you also give yourself some space to rest or to snack respectively. Last night I hammered a Chinese takeaway and this morning its waffle-house for us but I hope to pay for it with a 40/3 brick or so this afternoon! I may need to get off the free nights and weekends plan. I have begun to send you all some inspires in your personal blogs. Please hit reply to IN MY BLOG not IN YOUR BLOG as it is easier to track that way. I love hearing your personal thoughts on things. Great to see we are not falling onto page two of the mentor threads. But we need to keep this ball rolling to catch up to some of those strong groups. I am not quitting until we win this thing 8)! |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Hillacious Spinnerval followed by 45 min run. Am going to to back off a little on the mileage this week to have relatively fresh legs for my 5k with my wife. My wife claims she is just going to trot along and its not a real priority for her but she was spotted at the track running intervals last week. I'm still planning on bringing my A-game. The only thing worse than being "chicked" is being "wifed" |

New user 6 Midwest | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED based on the distances everybody else is doing.. I'm definitely a newbie to triathlons!! And the bikes are really nice... I'm just starting out so not ready to drop a lot of money yet.. but If I stick with it (and I plan on it).. and I like the triathlon I'm going to do.. I figure I will be shopping for a bike by year end.. My work out today.. 50 minutes on eliptical... 3 miles on bike (average 17.5 mph)... curious to those who have been doing this for a while on their speeds.... 1 mile jog/run on an indoor track It was the first time I went from a bike straight to jogging... my legs felt weird the first couple laps but then they were okay. I've been really concentrating on calories in / calories out... That seems to work best for me on losing weight... I would like to drop another 10 lbs by April for the 4 mile Trolley Run I'm going to do here in K.C... |

Extreme Veteran 479 | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED i'll freely admit... i spent last year (i.e. my 1st year involved in the sport) riding JUST my mountain bike & DROOLING over everybody else's bikes (as they blew past me!) humbling.... but worth it (but i was only passed during the sprint events. i was JUST fine & in good company for the try a tris) & i forgot to set out goals for the week! i'll be aiming for: Mon: spin & swim Tues: run (of some sort Wed: run & swim Thurs: rest (a dreaded quarterly meeting is set to stretch out into the evening YET again...) Fri: spin Sat: yoga Sun: long run |

Extreme Veteran 849 San Diego | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Ran 8 miles this afternoon. It was pretty fun running on this path surrounded by huge, old olive trees. The best part was squishing all of the big, fat olives. My legs and my dogs' bellies were covered in purple olive juice. Today was definitely a HTFU kinda day. I really didn't want to run but did it anyway. Booyah! Those days are the best. The sunshine we thought was coming hasn't arrived, but I'm gonna ride long tomorrow anyway. It'll be a toughen up creampuff sort of day. Nice job, everyone! Master 1843 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Hi all - big apology for being MIA. My life has been interfering and I don't appreciate it! This past week as I am sure Phat must have told you all we had a massive snow/ice storm her in GA. i live in the norther burbs and we got hit hard. I was stuck in my house from last Sunday thru Thursday and only ventured out as I had to get my oldest down to GA Southern Univ for move in and orientation. Hairy drive getting out of the ATL! But we made it and I had a great weekend with her. Needless to say there were quite a few missed workouts last week - like all the swims as you couldn't get there. I did a run in the ice that was close to a 14 min mile but was a blast and it was great to be out. Today I got back on track - 7 mile run in perfect temps and sunny skies. Workouts for the week: Monday - masters swim Tuesday - bike Wednesday - masters swim and run Thursday - bike Friday - masters swim and run Saturday - 2:10 min bike Sunday - 1:15 run on an out and back course negative split the return Wish me luck getting out of bed tomorrow at 4:50 am - last week not being able to leave the house and working from home = sleeping till 8 or so everyday (today I lounged in bed till 10!) Keep up the great workouts everyone - Tri season is closing in on us! Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Not phat? Phatknot SLAYER - CLOSED Dang you all! You are seeing the glorious world out there and all i see is the Slayer dungeon... Well done to nicruns, kate, nerdjock, and LisaB for going long yesterday. Very impressive! Which race are you gonna do instead, nicruns? Sounds like more of a challenge. Rgator: well done going for it. you are already catching the bug! 17.5 mph is pretty strong to start out with. You probably are a natural at cycling... Special welcome back to LisaB. We missed you!!!! keep up the great work everyone! Anyone wondering about anything tri lately? This week is "recovery week" for Slayer. Shanks is trying to rest me up for testing next week to get some proper zones to train with. My late season zones are no longer accurate I don't think. |
