I'm still around - here to help if anyone needs it!

I'm just over 2 weeks out from my first Half Ironman, and I feel ready!

Make sure you do a good taper.  I think that is what made me so strong.   i was feeling very fatigued before and after about day 5 of tapering I started feeling stronger.    I am looking forward to seeing your results.    You got it.

Hey All.

Still plugging around.  I am in Mexico for a quick work trip.  And was able to do some short runs.  It is pretty amazing how much you really sweat when the temperature is close to 100.  I really had to keep my pace down, so I would not overheat.  Looking forward to weekend so I can do some swimming at the beach.  Interested to see how much difference is it from the pool.

Hello group.

Wanted to break the bad news.  I am backing out of the half marathon this weekend.Frown  The last two months with moving and work, my training really took a back seat.  So instead of driving back home and running, I am going to stay here in NC.  I could probably finish it, but I think I would risk a chance at getting injured trying 13 miles, since I rarely hit 7 miles in the past 2 months.

I do have a question that you guys might be able to answer.  Have any of you have bike trainers?  With the winters we get in Pa and I maybe in NC, I am sure there are going to be times that I would like to ride indoors.  Anyone has any preferences or thoughts.

Later.

Smart move, Ken. There will always be half marathons, but you only get one set of legs

I ride a 1upUSA trainer. It's not the greatest, but it is simple, it was cheap (found it used!), and it works great. Check classifieds here and your local craigslist for deals. I find that I don't need anything fancier - like a computrainer or one with variable resistance. I vary resistance by shifting gears, and I've got some Spinervals. Sufferfest is good too.

I will be attempting Jorge's Winter Cycling Plan. He posts it here. It hasn't started yet, but I can let you know when it does. It's highly recommended and FREE! You don't really need anything more than a trainer, but I recommend a heart rate moniter if you go that route.

I agree with Elaine,  It is hard to drop a race but better than being injured and finghting back from that.   YOu can regroup in NC and run a 1/2 there.

I have a bell trainer that I found on craigslist.   It was cheap and it works just fine.

Traded my mountain bike for a cyclocross bike.   THat was more fun than I have had in a while.   Signed up for a race next week.  probably another butt kicking.   It is the best bike training you can do.  Tuesday training race of 11 miles was harder than the 56 for the 1/2.

2012 Mentor groups are open!

You're welcome in mine, of course, but I'd really suggest reading some mentor bios and finding one you like and that you think you can learn from!

If you're up to it, you can BE a mentor, too!

I'll continue to check your logs and leave inspires
