Completed this morning's race in roughly 1hr 26min - official times are still pending. Although, the course and conditions were not apples to apples from the July tri (choppy lake and shorter bike route), I am fairly certain that I raced faster today. Very pleased, and very much looking forward to a nap and some ice cream :D

Will post official results when they post. Thanks to all for the support!!!

Here's the link above to the race report for my race this weekend.  1:26:55, 91/163 overall and 3/6 for the Clydesdales.

Boy the format is tough, this race is Bike Swim Run.  The bike is tough, all the blood in your legs then has to go up for the swim, and then back down for the run.  Definitely something I will practice for this race next year.

So Viktor Zyemtsev was in Los Alamos for the last month High Altitude training for Ironman Canada next weekend.  I think he has won 8 Ironmans.  Actually he stayed with a friend of ours, she said his approach to training was very casual, and he eats lots of watermelon.  Anyway after an 80-90 mile ride on Friday he did our little sprint Saturday.  He was finished when I got out of the pool, pretty awesome.

Splits:

Karl Bike 41:33, Viktor Bike 31:29 (12.4 miles)

Karl Swim 11:29, Viktor Swim 6:20 (400m)

Karl Run 29:30, Viktor Run 17:18 (5k)

So my "A" race is 9/11.  Hammer down on the training until then!

Happy Training/Racing everyone!!!

OK so here are the official results from Sunday's race...

Swim: 11:18
T1: 1:27
Bike: 43:21
T2: 0:41
Run: 29:31

I ended up 4th (out of 11) in my age group, I was the 19th female out of 52 total females and 63rd overall out of 118 participants. I am thrilled with these numbers, and am very much looking forward to my third and final race of the year on September 18th.

Great Job everyone!  I'm jealous.  I was looking at all the fall races and seeing which ones I can do and which ones I can't.  Unfortunately, most are in limbo right not depending on when other things fall...

Cross-country school coach, physical therapist, or personal trainer for helping with running form? Think I'll start with the school's coach; if she does not offer to help me, maybe she will have ideas  for who can.

Uhhggg! I am sick for the 2nd time in 2 weeks.  My little monster started Montessori School 2 weeks ago and has been picking up new colds from all of the other little monsters and genetically engineering them to attack my body.  I was starting to feel it yesterday and swam anyway.  Today I am supposed to bike but there is no way.

I feel my base endurance is as high as it has been since I was in High School.  Next week is supposed to be a taper before my "A" race on 9/11.  My wife is 2 days ahead of me with this particular cold and based on her run with it I may be able to go light by Thursday/Friday.  I am afraid to push it and weaken my body close to a race, but also afraid of losing the hard work I have put into training.

I guess it is what it is.

Ran a 5K this morning on cement path around a golf course.  Small race only 50 people.

I ran first 2 miles without walking.  then did a 3/3 walk jog for the end.

Finished strong.  3rd race since July and at least 1 minute faster each time.

Next goals are run entire race and sub 36.  It is at the end of October.

Just wanted to thank Kido and the guy at the bike shop who encouraged me to invest in good running shoes.  Since I purchased my Asics gel cumulus (yes they do feel like you are walking on a cloud) my feet are much less sore the next day and so far no shin splints!  I have worked my way up to 6 minutes of jogging and 1 minute walking for about a 13minute mile, which is as fast as I was for "racing" earlier this summer.  I know, it is NOT fast, but it is such a relief to not be in pain either! Graduating to 7/1 this week and will then work on increasing distance to build endurance. Hope everyone is enjoying their fall training!  Here in the northwest as fall approaches, it is actually quite cool in the mornings but summer-like later in the day; I'm keeping my shorts handy for late-afternoon rides and jogs, but have to have sweats ready too.  What recommendations for off-season training do you have?  I want to take a spinning class, and Zumba sounds fun; since I work at the school I also have access to a treadmill and elliptical.  I like the idea of mixing things up to avoid boredom; just wondering what other folks like to do.  Thanks, Suzi

Looking for motivation?  Bored of the routine?  I found that just finding a different run route or bike route, really helps with not getting bored.

Finished my third and final tri of the year last weekend. It was a wee bit chilly (56 degrees F) when the gun went off, but otherwise a beautiful day for a race.

Times were as follows:
Swim (750m): 16:43
T1: 2:15 (took time to put on a long-sleeved shirt - well worth the extra 30 seconds!)
Bike: 52:51 (SUPER hilly course, saw more than one person walking their bikes up the hills)
T2: 0:50
Run: 30:31 (disappointed with this number but after that bike, I suppose it isn't the end of the world

Total time: 1:43:12

I discovered that the longer swim actually works to my advantage, which gives me hope for my OLY endeavor next summer.

Wishing everyone a happy, productive off-season!

Best,
Michelle

A new tear has developed near one of the anchors from my surgery last year, so I am having surgery again in December.  Another season is finished.  I think I am done triing, my body does not seem to be able to handle the stresses.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Not sure if the mentor session is over, but that doesn't matter.

Sorry to hear about this otter...
