Joel,

Great news.  I bet you are itching to run big time.

It was nice to meet you at breezy.  Hope we can get some training time in.

Matt

Damn Joel...now I have to start looking behind me again!  Not that you would be behind me in any part of a race...but you know what I mean.

Way to go Joel. Now thats what I call a quick healer. Just remember to be careful with your recovery and listen to your body. I had my knee reconstructed a few years back and I wasn't as smart as I hope you are. I pushed too hard too fast against what my screaming knee was saying and what my doctor and Physical Therapist were saying. Needless to say I suffered a few setbacks and delayed my recovery by a few months. From what I can remember its a fine line between progress and setback. Push the envelope just don't go over the egde.

Thanks for all the encouragement.  I'm going to try and come back slowly but honestly this is 95% a conditioning issue now.  The fracture was the only damage I had aside from the trauma from the impact.  There wasn't really any damage to the joing that requires lengthy PT like knee, shoulder, elbow surgery.  I had my elbow reconstructed with new ligaments about 5 years ago and that was a rather slow process to get ROM back.  All the swimming I did kept allowed me to keep most of the flexibility and ROM in my hip while the bone had time to fuse.  At this point it's primarily a muscle strength thing for my leg.  I did notice today at the gym that my right calf is noticably smaller than my left.

Hi all-

Thought I'd post a little update.  I've been back to training for about 4 months and everything is moving in the right direction. I'm gaining back my conditioning and speed and have been racing well considering where I was back in April and May.  I've basically been focused on getting back to where I was so that I can hit the 2007 season at full speed.  Still no resolution to the investigation although there is still a bit of hope.  I've got a DNA sample being tested against some evidence from a car the detectives tracked down.  If that doesn't come through then there's nothing else I can do.  Many of you participated in the raffle that Daremo organized to help me out and I decided to take some of that $$$ and donate it to a good cause to show my appreciation.  I posted a new thread: Giving back to the triathlon community

Thanks to everyone for all of their support through my recovery!
