All I have to say about the video is this...

Imagine what he could have done if he would have gone swimming and biking too!

No swimming today because the stupid "in-door" pool was closed because of the bad weather "outside."

Haha, rather ironic! Oh well, hopefully tomorrow it'll be open.

I would appreciate it if anyone can let me know what you think of my weekly workouts and whether I am "about right" or "doing too much" or should adjust anything. I feel like I am on the right path but not having done this before, I want to make sure there isn't a glaring issue with my training.

Jay

Jay,  your workouts look great and well balanced.  Are you following a specific plan?

Thanks for the video.  The starting quote is one of my daughter's favorite quotes; she even has that first part tattooed on her leg.  Wait that sounds so ghetto but she is always in basketball shorts and is kinda has an artsy soul so it fits her.  But it is a great saying and so true.

I based my overall plan on the trinewbies.com free 18 week olympic triathlon training plan.

http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_trainingprograms/tno_18wOly.asp

I am following the swim distances and used the run and cycle as a guide but really I made my plan up around this and to also fit in the strength training. I am not sure it makes sense but it fits into my schedule as well as it can and gives me the breaks I need between each exercise (which seems to be the biggest challenge). Next week is my recovery week.

Jay, is an Olympic what you are training for? When is the race?

Workouts are going well this week. Two good swim sets of 750 to 800 yards each and three good treadmill runs. Looking forward to my 20 mile run tomorrow.

Yeah me...did a 6.5 mile run at an almost 10 minute mile.  This was a personal best for me in distance and time.  My run is feeling so much stronger!  Today is a recover day and tomorrow I am sleeping in until I have been in bed so long my back hurts!

The enjoyment comes eventually. I know I dreaded my long runs when I started training for a marathon relay three years ago. I did two half marathons last year and have a full in five weeks. The accomplishment outweighs the pain... After a while.

I tried a wetsuit on for the first time yesterday. I get chlostrophobic in tight places so needless to say, it was a bit traumatic. I was just hoping I didn't have to call the sales guy in to help me get it off. That would have been embarassing! I finally got it on after a second try. I am not sure how I will do with that on me for any period of time before a race. Is my only other option to go without? That could be cold for a May and June swim in Maryland. So, I really have two problems...I hate being cold and I am chlostrophobic. I should have tried the wetsuit on before committing to two tri's.

***Update***

Just got back from my longest run and it was outdoors with several hills...5.6 miles in 48 mins 10 sec.

Aaaahh, The first wetsuit try-on; always traumatic!  Once I got in my first one I thought, "This has to be the most ridiculous thing ever!"  I looked hideous but oh well.

I rented wetsuits for the first year, only about $25 for a long weekend, and last year I rented one in San Diego at Extera...what a difference compared to the old used ones I was renting.  Much easier to get in and out of and much more movement.  Extera allows you to purchase their rented suits for half off.  I got a farmer john for $60 and a full is only $90.

When I rented my first wetsuits I thought all wetsuits would feel the same but I was way wrong. I suggest you try several brands and find one that works for you.  I too had trouble getting in and out of the wetsuit until I tried a much nicer suit.  It slides right off.

Finished my third 20 mile run prepping for the little Rock Marathon. Temps just above freezing... Lots of slush, snow, and cold water on the streets. The actual race should be a piece of cake!
