Eesh.  Yeah, you have to replace the timing belt/chain at about 60-70k.  And that's like 700-800 bucks a lot of times.  From what I hear, it just about HAS to be done.  If it fails, the whole engine goes.

Kido - 2012-07-10 2:55 PM Eesh.  Yeah, you have to replace the timing belt/chain at about 60-70k.  And that's like 700-800 bucks a lot of times.  From what I hear, it just about HAS to be done.  If it fails, the whole engine goes.

I just want the noise to stop and know that my car is reliable to drive long distances and will not further do damage to the engine.  I could probably wait .. shop around .. but I don't know pewp about cars, don't know of any reputable mechanics nor have a any friends that know a damn thing about cars or shops in Tucson.  So the dealership can just fix it and I can get my car back tomorrow and all will be good.

See, I sort of did the same thing but got lectured about how much it cost and we should have shopped around.

I'm like "listen, you were in California and the car was BARELY starting and it's 112 out in the shade.  The Honda dealership is a couple miles from the office, so I could walk and manage to get it fixed on my own.  I just needed a running car and probably paid a little too much.  How do I "shop around" when the car doesn't start and she has the other one in california."

It is what it is sometimes.  You just get it done.

I also got lectured on how much I spent on a 36 pack of condoms... (TMI).  She's not excited I got 36 instead of 3, but that I spent too much.  Can't win for trying.  I'm hardely a spendthrift, but dayum.

HAHA!  Nope you can't win!

Yep .. I too am probably overpaying BUT I live alone and need my car.  I don't have people to pick me up and take me here and there.  I don't live close to a bus line or an area where stuff is "just up the street".   And I am not at all excited about being stranded in the middle of nowhere when it's 110 degrees out.

I'll be your wingman anytime!  Or something.

Have them replace the water pump while the engine is apart. It ties directly into the timing belt and, while it's already out, you pay no labor to replace it. The part isn't that expensive ($60-$100), but the labor will be the same cost again as you paid for that timing belt.

Your water pump WILL fail; just a matter of when, not if.

I gave up coffee. ...but NEED it today so that I may communicate with Tony via text. It's become critical that I get a hold of him. I will savor the many cups this morning.

It is amazing how efficient coffee is at opening the gates.
