Member 84 | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Great job Hammer!!! I did my weekly Performance Cycle spin class today, I laughed when the leader said we were going to spend some time in zone 5 today, I was thinking I will be doing good if I get close enough to smell zone 4, which is what I did. The first half I pushed pretty good, but I didn't have enough to make the big pushes in the second half, I just stayed in zone 3. I followed it up with an 82 min. run on the mill, I did 8 miles, the first 30 min. I was very wobbly, this was the toughest 10 min mile run I've done in a Long time. I'm getting better, hoping I'll be full strength by next weekend. Have a Great weekend! Tim |

New user 105 Outside Nashville | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed I had a pretty good workout today. My biking was still very difficult but I did not feel like I was dying throughout the ride today even though I took two breaks at 15 mins / 30ish mins .. both breaks were < 2 minutes.
I began having some pain in my left ankle yesterday ... its very positional and only hurts if I turn it a certain way but I want to fall on the floor when it hits ... I am a bit worried about that but I am not running tomorrow I am just swimming / biking, strength on Tuesday so hopefully over the next 2 days it will heal up. |

Veteran 413 jenks | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed The biking will continue to improve if you stay after it. Let us know how the ankle is feeling. That is a little concerning. Is there any swelling in the ankle area? |

Veteran 413 jenks | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Littlewj you might look at your bike fit. If you seat is to low or not sitting straight it can cause knee pain. Run: it looks like you are getting some great workouts in. Keep it up. |

New user 105 Outside Nashville | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Blizzard warning? Man that sucks. I am glad that does not happen here to often. However, our severe weather season is about to ramp up ... damn tornadoes scare me to death -_-! Not much swelling in the ankle I dont think. I iced it twice last night and although stiff it feels a bit better this morning. I plan on swimming and biking a bit today.
I did not think I had a race for several months but I think I might do one that is held in one month. The swim and bike portions are somewhat short but it seems to be good for a first race. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/directory/link-detail.asp?linkid=32910 |

Veteran 1016 Deep South, Georgia | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed So I've pretty much decided to go ahead and get a personal trainer certification. I've done a good bit of online research regarding some of the different certifying agencies, etc. I have not yet made a final decision on which to go with. I was just wondering if anyone has any background or information to share in this area. This would be primarily for my own education as this has always something I have had a passion and interest in. I also have an eye down the road as maybe it could lead to a part-time job or future side-business. Any comments, suggestion, tips would be welcomed. Thanks. Edited by Dominion 2013-02-26 2:06 PM |

New user 105 Outside Nashville | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed I looked at it for the same reasons you listed but it seemed quite confusing to say the least. I wish you luck with it and although I dont have any advice about the profession directly I would make sure I researched it thoroughly so you dont waste your money on the wrong one. |

Veteran 413 jenks | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Dominion: I would take to your gym and see what certifications they use. I have looked into this and decided to postpone for now. I have read and follow Joel Friells book "your best triathlon for advanced triathletes" this book has given me a great deal of knowledge on training. In the next few years I might follow up and get my USAT coaching cert. I wish I could offer more help.

Hey Dominion I have been a personal trainer for 5 years I done my cert III & IV online. My background was boxing and running. I am very lucky I have had a full-time job being paid sick leave and holiday pay for 4 years, I pretty much manage the gym. I found doing the course online a little hard with learning about the body parts and physiology just takes alot of focus and its good to have someone to help working out some of the terminology. The rest is not to hard. I had manuels and dvd's. I was working full time and got the course done in about 4 months. If you are just doing it for yourself you can do it alot cheaper by getting books like what hammer said. I am actually reading that book at the moment and it is awesome. There are some excellent books and dvd's available. I went through an Australian company called Fitnation as it was the cheapest but I also had a couple of friends who were PT's and they helped me a bit. It is a very rewarding career, a lot of the time I am more of a counsellor. Hope this has helped a bit if you have any questions let me know. |

Member 84 | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed February's totals are: run - 11:39-76.79 miles, bike - 11:44 & swim - 10:52-22,341 yards. Kinda bummed I really wanted to bump the run over 12hrs & intended to catch a spin class today, but work got in the way, I just got done & have an early morning tomorrow so a late night workout is out. Hope to make up for it tomorrow, so I can finish the week strong. On a positive note, I had a really good swim yesterday, I did a 200m, 100m, 400m, & a 1700 meter nonstop, in just over an hour & I felt fresh when I got out, I wish I would have had more time I would have intended another half mile. It was kind of cool, the guy in the next lane when I finished was asking what my secret was, how I made swimming look so effortless & how I could do so many laps without stopping! I never thought I'd hear anything like that! I still have a Long way to go but it was cool to hear it. When I got home I did a 4 mile run (36 min & brrr that wind was Cold) followed by 32 min. on my exercise bike (Yuck, I can't wait for clear, clean streets so I can ride outside! Good Training to all! |

I'm not sure what you mean by cert III &IV. I'm just looking for a basic "get your foot in the door" personal trainer certification. I have narrowed it down to ACE, ISSA, and NESTA. Still weighing the pro's and con's of each. |

Member 84 | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Had a good day to cap a pretty good week. I started with our gyms Perormance Cycle spin class at 6:30 for 77 minutes, then I went home to run (the trails around the gym weren't clear & the tread mill for over an hour sounded like drudgery) and did 11.25 miles in 1:46. I used map my run on it & now I understand why my runs from home are so much harder than from the gym, in that 11.25 I climbed a total of 1286'! For the week I swam 3:02 for 6045 yards, biked 4.5 hours & ran 3.5 hours 22 7/8 miles, I also did an hour yoga class and a little core work (which I need to add to going forward). Tomorrow looks to be the first actual ride outside as my gym cancelled the weekly movie rides for the season, the county roads & the highway shoulders looked fairly clean today on the run so please wish me luck! I'm excited to hit the roads and actually see how the spin bike training has done for me. Hope you all have a great weekend!!! Tim |

Never happy with my totals As far as my run is concerned, how do you think I should tailor my training for olympic distance races? I was thinking of running 20-28 mpw max with maybe two days a week doing speed work. Does this sound reasonable? Right now I do about 97% of my runs at a slow pace zone 2 heart rate (about 9:15 min. miles). Everything I read here on BT says that is the best way to train. I just feel like I should probably be doing more speed sessions. I don't know if it's attainable, but my goal is to hold about 7-1/2 minute miles after the bike. |

Member 84 | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed Well I have the first outdoor ride of 2013 under my belt. I wish it had gone better but I did it. First off I Love my new aero bars!!! They took me about 10 miles to become comfortable in them but they are great! So I started out with a partly sunny day with a light east breeze, great I had planned a north south out & back 40 miler. As I go north it is primarily a gentle up hill (between the rolling hills) & I was loving it, I was running about a 22mph avg, as I was nearing my turn the sun disappeared & I was noticing a wind shift it was now out of the south & it was Cold! Wind was averaging 20 mph (did I say I like aero bars) & my feet were starting to freeze. I continued on hoping as I got further south I might have more cover, but it didn't materialize so by now I can no longer feel my feet, I decided I better stop & warm them. By the time they warmed up to a reasonable level I was freezing & I was inside so I thought I will continue on and I should warm up, but by the time I got to the last point I could stop before heading back into the country I was getting colder & not warmer, so I chickened out & called it, today's ride isn't worth getting sick over. All in all I'm pleased with the improvement I've made over the winter! I'm going to the bike shop for some shoe covers so this doesn't happen again! Hope I didn't bore you with my tale. Oh yea, I almost forgot, it Did feel good to be riding outside again! Tim Edited by BigAirT 2013-03-03 8:30 PM |

Veteran 1016 Deep South, Georgia | Subject: RE: T3 Spring training 2013 - Closed My first race was scheduled for May 11th. It's a sprint that i wanted to get in before an Olympic on May 18th. Well that plan has just been changed due to a family obligation. I've found another sprint to replace it on April 7th that I will now be doing instead. Basically my schedule just got moved up by a month. |
