Member 34 Tampa | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Great Race Dragon!! Missed my 2nd Swim this week (sat morns at the pool are horrible). One half of the pool was lessons and the other was water aerobics, so the lanes they had left were already doubled up. Went outside and did a short run (holy humidity). Overall i'm happy with my workouts this week (2runs, 2bikes, 1 swim). Going to reward myself with a 6pack of red hook audible ale in the beer fridge. hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend!!! |

New user 180 Auburn, AL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Originally posted by mirthfuldragon Race report incoming, as soon as I get the photos sent to me. Estimated time: 1:20:00, and I am happy with the result. The swim was a serpentine pool swim, 400 yards total. I was expecting a 2:15/100 pace, so hopefully around 9:00min total. What I was not prepared for was the depth of the pool. All my previous swims were in shallow lap pools. This pool hit 15' in the deep end, and I have a fear of heights, so every time I looked down in the deep end, I panicked, badly. I did a few warmup laps, so at least I knew what was going to happen, but I was not ready for it at all, and my swim suffered for it greatly. After the first three laps, I stared to close my eyes over the deep end, and let the lane line guide me. I have never been more relieved to get out of the water than today. Both transitions went well, and were smooth. The bike was excellent, with an average speed just north of 20mph. I didn't spend as much time in aero as I wanted to, but I've only had the aero bars on the road for about 4 hours of ride time, so that to be expected. Also, on Thursday my light 25 mile ride involved me getting lost and riding 45 miles, including 1,700 feet of climbing, so much more effort than I wanted to put in. Yesterday we rode the course as well, but my wife's bike got two flats in 7 miles due to the rim tape shifting over to expose about half a milimeter of spoke hole, which was pinching the tube, so I rode back to the car and came and got her, and rode back rather harder than I should have. I brought a bit of deep muscle fatigue into the race with me, which slowed down the bike a bit. I still passed 9 people (the pool was a time trial start). The run went well, a little over 8:30 pace, and given the fatigue from the previous rides and my killer bike split, it was a good effort. Not quire a 5k PR, but a close second. Passed three people on the run as well. I am also very proud of my wife, who had some panic issues pre-race; she did very well, finishing about 1:40, and she passed two people on the swim. I am waiting on the official results, but it was a good first triathlon. Congrats on a solid race! |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Had our holiday bbq today. I feel real guilty about the food I ate. Had some ribs, chicken, beans, and 3 beers. Didn't crush the food quantity but wasn't as pure of a choice as I wanted. I don't want to fall prey to "well it's only so often I do it". My self discipline has taken me from 252 to 183 this morning on the scale in a short time (23-28 to go). I got here by following a system and I plan on getting back to it first thing in the morning. ^^rant over thanks for reading Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I managed to get in a run today so I'm killing the 12/17 challenge. Sitting at 13/17 after today. What's everyone else at? The weekend racers should get 2 workout credit just for racing |

Me, I just hammered out a beer-fueled brick here. Beer seems like it should be good workout fuel, hydration + carbohydrates, except I garnished it with ribs, chicken, corn and salad, and that might have been suboptimal Doing lousy on the 12/17, today's bike/run will only be my 4th. I was traveling all last week and expected to get in some workouts since we have access to a great pool, but only made it once. How's everyone else's weekend going? |

Goals for the week: - Try the wetsuit I was lent to see if it fits and how it feels in the water - 2x swim sessions: in the pool - 2x run sessions: one on the road, one on the AlterG machine - 2x biking sessions: outside (1x on the 15 mile Sprint loop, 1x 25-35 mile ride) - Stretch and core daily (30 mins) - 2x Physical therapy George Well it was a long and tough week (training and at work). When I look at my goals, I was able to get a good amount accomplished, but not everything. 2x swim sessions - check 2x run - check 2x biking - check Stretching and core daily - not quite 2x physical therapy - only one session I still haven't tried on the wetsuit...need to get that going ASAP. Did my last brick today (15 mile ride in 49 minutes and change + 2.7 mile run at 9:50 average) and I am sore and tired. I am glad I have a physical therapy session scheduled for tomorrow. 6 days to go...I am almost ready. Now to have a nice beer (Maine Brewing Company - Mo) and a hot tub session. George |

Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Just finished my first master's swim. We had a nasty cold snap here, so it was at an indoor pool instead of the outdoor olympic pool. Fun times, and some good structure. It's also yet another hard realization of how far I still have to go on the swim. I seem to be getting over my panic in the deep end. Also, fin drills rock. Coming from a cycling background, it's great to let the big quads and calves get some action in the water. It's also very fast. I even started to figure out dolphin kick. Another update from this weekend: I visited Big Muddy Brewing and sampled some really great beer, including a dunkelweise that found a special place in my heart, a galaxy-hopped IPA that I didn't hate, the best pumpkin beer I've ever had (a keg of which may find itself at my Halloween party). The wonderful thing about Southern Illinois is how cheap beer is - $6 for a tour and tasting, with 1/3 pint (!) pours of 9 beers. We sat around for an hour or so after, waiting for the buzz to subside. |

Chiro things my hamstrings and glutes the problem. My wife is ready for my to hang up on Crossfit. Likely was a crossfit injury but also I kinda backed of the ol' foam roller on the glutes and hamis. Us old folks need to keep going at that stuff. My tri bud wants us to think about a 70.3 for the fall. We plan an Oly for October and I am not sure I am up to more this year. We are looking at a possible 70.3 in the Caribbean for 2014. I think I just need to get physically stronger. Had too much for a a few Bass Ale's (and some other stuff I am too embarrassed to mention) |

Expert 1058 Fallon, Nevada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Realized I never did my bio: here you go: NAME: Cynthia STORY: Three years ago I did the couch to sprint just to see if I could then continued to make sure it wasn't a fluke and did several more sprints and an OLY in that year. Came in dead last on the OLY...Oh HELL NOOOOO! Repeated the OLY the following year just to prove I could do better...i did. I lost about 70lbs prior to starting tri's and have not lost a pound since but I am in better shape! FAMILY STATUS: Fling Flanging...gonna hit 29 years married in July...what the???? We have three daughters, 22,24, & 28, and a grandson who you will note I refer to as the punk and a half! Love him so much and nothing is better than to come around a corner in a race and hear, "Go Grandma!". The kids seem to use our home as a revolving door, go away to school come back, live there for awhile, move out. Right now two are there but will be gone by the end of summer. Sometimes I love it, sometimes not so much! CURRENT TRAINING: Dead...I mean I am training and stuff but without purpose and focus. Don't know what the deal is but I just haven't felt it. I RBS but not consistently! Doing the HIM training program but I usually just do what I feel like and not what is called for in the plan. The three hour commute to work daily is killing me! THIS YEAR'S RACES: This year its all local races...trying to be debt free in three years and that requires a cut back on the traveling, (making double mortgage payments, car payments, ect.). I am signed up and paid for the San Diego Rock n Roll in September. I wanted to do the Malibu this year but it conflicts with the Reno Balloon Races and I have committed myself to volunteer for that event. BEER PREFERENCE: I haven't had too much lately as my punishment for not focusing but I like the dark ones...chocolate coconut stout in the winter, yumo. More of a wino in the summer months, had my fav dinner the other night, buttery chardonnay with grapes, goat cheese and crackers! I could have that every summer eventing. WEIGHT LOSS: None this year. I took a nutrition class this semester and have learned to check the labels for High frutrose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. Eating less processed foods. No major changes just changes I can stick with for the long haul. |

A lot of fun until we decided to jog and I fell...my daughter said I looked extremely graceful as i flew through the air...I did land on my tummy and chest without injury so it must have been. Sciatic pain down my leg has been hurting for over a month. Seems like I hurt it at one point and now the pain won't stop. Sitting for extended periods kills and really makes the drive to work and home especially really bad. Stretching seems to help easy the pain any other suggestions? Do you see a doc over this or is it a part of life? I wonder if I go see the doc if she will prescribe physical therapy, that wouldn't be so bad. |
