Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Now that I'm back from Orlando watching over my mom after surgery, I can race tomorrow. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it back or not. So I'm doing the Tri The Parks Sprint Tri as a make-up for Breezy Point. I didn't do Breezy Point because of the weather and I didn't want to get hurt. Just wasn't worth it. We'll see how it goes. |

Member 72 | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Good luck everyone.. I have a half mary this weekend in CT which I've done a few times. It's usually 90 degrees, so I'm looking forward to this years race in the 70's (I hope). Would be nice to be doing another Tri, but this is the 3rd week I'm doing some type of race and my wife would kill me. I need to stop racing so I can pick up my training again! Rob |

Expert 844 | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED I will be training excessively for the next week. My Dad has a place right on the fingerlakes and it is tri heaven.I will be living there all week with zero police activity! They actually have a sprint there in the fall that goes right by our doorstep. SO, thing one, thing two, and I will be ripping it up. Hopefully Marmadaddy and some other BTers will be down to drop me on long rides around the lake.....and then I will fight Aaron's skinny for the main event!!!! (I am a heavy favorite...) |

Good luck to everyone who is racing this weekend! I think I am still going to sit this weekend out but I hope to be racing again by the middle of July! Anyone want to do a 50-mile mountain bike race with me? |

Member 72 | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED I would would do the ride with you.. 2 problems though. I don't have a mountain bike, and not sure how far la la land is from Long Island? Hey gang - on another note.. You may have noticed I'm signed up with TNT again this year for a sprint Tri in August. My wife and I did a Tri and Disney marathon with them last year and it was great. We raised $8800 and got introduced to Tri's so it was a win-win. I would highly recommend checking out one of the local chapters... If anyone would like to donate (online and easy) for my event this year, head over to our site: http://www.active.com/donate/tntliny/perissi Please shoot link this over to any of your tri-geek friends who may be interested also. Thanks guys! I promise NO more solicting until next year. Rob |

I would definitely rent one there. I am not really experienced with this kind of thing, but I know that it costs $100 or so to ship your bike in the US. Then you have to pay someone to put it back together. I am pretty sure that you would be better off renting one... My $.02 only. |

Veteran 219 Russell, KS | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED I have a question regarding blood pressure. My blood pressure is low. (It's a genetic thing, my father and sister have it also.) Usually, all this means is, I'm cold all the time, especially after I eat. Usually, my numbers are something like 112/76. (I remember once in high school, the nurse took my pressure twice because it was something stupid like 80/60.) My question is: Will low blood pressure affect my heart rate? If so, which way would it affect it? Will I have a higher heart rate when I work out? Or a lower one? Or will it not matter at all? I ask because it seems that my heart rate is always high, even when I do not feel as though I am exerting myself that much. When I take a break, my heart rate almost immediately -- within 30 seconds or so -- falls roughly 6 to 7%. It doesn't bother me to exercise such that my heart rate is at 80 - 88% for a good length of time...well, at least it doesn't feel bad -- I'm not huffing and puffing when I do this. The numbers just read ... high. I've calibrated my hrm over and over again thinking perhaps it isnt' set right. I have to wonder if this "high number" will hurt me. Logic says it should, but in order to make it low, I have to drag . Any ideas? |

I would think exercising would help because it would raise your BP...mine is usually around 90/75...I've never had any problems. |

Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED When you say that you have "calibrated your HRM," what exactly do you mean by that? Are you using a program within your monitor, the 220-age thing, or are you doing an LT test and keeping an eye on your heart based on your lactate threshold? Edited by triOK 2007-06-23 3:21 PM |

Or, should I just rent one there? If you decide to ship it, ask your local bike shop if they know a contact shop in the town (or nearby) where you will be going. They will ship the bike directly from their place to your destination..or, at least that's how it has worked for me in the past! Where in Germany? How long will you be there? What cha doin' in Germany? Full of questions! Vanessa |

Veteran 219 Russell, KS | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED When you say that you have "calibrated your HRM," I have a polar heart rate monitor with "ownzone" settings. I follow the directions in teh book to set my zones. I don't think it is based on the age thing. Where in Germany http://www.nibelungen-triathlon.de/ That is the web site for the tri. I will be there for about 2 weeks visiting friends and bumming around the country. |

Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Don't use the program that comes with the heart rate monitor. Do an LT test instead and then use the Excel worksheet (that I might need to post again) that will automatically calculate your zones. Those programs aren't specific to each person and therefore really aren't effective.... especially in your case. |

I mean, I know how to use excel, but I don't know how to do an LT test...whatever that is. Help me out. If this is old hat, then take it offline ...I can send you my chat id. |

Member 72 | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Hey Gang.. How did everyone do today?? I did really well at my half mary in CT. This hilly course has kicked my a$$ in the past, so I was pumped that I had a PR for a half today! Net time of 1:52:57. Whoo-hoo. I guess all this biking and swimming is really helping my overall run ability. The perfect weather also helped a lot. Hope everyone did well! Next event - sprint Tri here on Long Island in two weeks. Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Awesome job Rob! Looks like it's coming along for you. I had a good day at the Sprint Tri I did just south of Atlanta. I got a top 10 finish and 1st in my A/G. It was a tough race with lots of hills that I don't get to run on much. It was a busy weekend. I flew in on Friday from taking care of my mom, we drove down to the Race, raced on Sat and then drove down to Jacksonville. There was a surprise 30th B-day party fro a friend of mine and then we got up this morning and ran 14 miles. Then we drove to Savannah, had lunch with another friend of ours and drove home (Atlanta) from there. It was a crazy weekend!! I get to do the final walk through of our new house tomorrow and then get on a plane to Orlando to take care of my mom some more. Busy Busy....which way is up. |

Hope things are going well with your Mom. I'm happy I have next weekend "off" from racing.. looking forward to pick up training again. Rob Edited by rperissi 2007-06-24 9:41 PM |
