I was wondering where the swim was in Philly but wow ... sounds like it should be fun.  My brother lived in Philly for about 12 years.  Was a chef at Le Bec Fin.  I miss visiting there.  Maybe I'll need to do an out of town race next season .....

Jess, I would love for you to come this way for a race next year! I'd LOVE to meet you!!!!!

Alright, my stupid finals are over and I am about to re-focus on my training. Had a decent workout today. I am going to make May a real improvement month and push myself pretty hard. Hope everyone is doing well.

It would be great to meet you too!  Thinking it might be able to happen sooner than next season ... looking at the Philly Half Mary in the fall if my foot stays happy.

Does anybody know whether or not it is OK to ride your bike with the rear brake at the wider setting? To be more specific: I opened the switch on the rear brake, moving the brake pads farther out so that they didn't rub against the wheel. I rode home after my fall today with the brake set open like that and had no problems. But, can I continue riding like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do it all the time.... I don't know if it will cause an issue or not, but i do it all the time.  I replaced my pads last year and the rear tire wouldn't move unless it was open, it was like the pads where to thick...

What's everyone doing for Memorial Day?  I'm heading up to hell, I mean Baraboo, WI for some hill riding with my tri club.  3 hours on Saturday, 2.5 on Sunday.  Should be fun.  It's never as bad when there's a group, right?

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

We're heading to Ocean City, NJ for the weekend with my family, parents, sister, and grandparents. My grandparents have a house so we go to the shore almost every weekend in the summer. I'm really looking forward to taking the kids to the beach and boardwalk. I'm even thinking about getting a bike seat for the back of my husbands and my beach bike to take them for rides.

My sister and her friend have a 1/2 in a few weeks and they are talking about 2 - 50 mile rides this weekend so I may join them for one of them.

Enjoy the rides Jess!! John, maybe we'll be able to catch up.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I went to Mohican State Park with my inlaws. Did some canoeing and hiking and even got a run in on a cool trail. I don't get a chance to do much trail running but I really like it. I also got a chance to do a lot of yard work lately in my gardens. I hope everybody had a good weekend!

Well, I have to say that if anyone wonders about the IM Wisconsin course, I'd guess it's hillier than heck.  I rode just north of Madison this weekend and OMG I wanted someone to drag me off that hell machine and take me out back.  Elevation gain on Sunday alone was 3,656.9 ft.  What doesn't kill you ....  Overall though, the weekend was a blast.  The folks in our club are a lot of fun.  Sometimes I feel this sport brings me so much more than I put into it.

Hope you all had a great holiday weekend!  (Josh, any pix of your garden?)

Hello Everybody,
Sorry I have been incommunicado for a little while. I tried to respond to various "Inspire Me" messages but the Blog feature doesn't seem to be working. In response to peoples' questions:
My birthday is tomorrow! I will be 30.
My race is on 8/3. It is the Cleveland Triathlon which will have several thousand participants (so I have heard.)
My training is coming along alright. I hit a little training glitch with the end of the school year. The end of the year is crammed full of events and things to deal with. Among the end of the year highlights: a student set a small fire in a locker on the last day of school for our Seniors -- this crime counts as aggravated arson and the 18 year old student faces 6-30 years; the school was heavily vandalized to the tune of several thousands of dollars of damage; I got a student teacher for next year and have begun to prepare her; and I had to assist a new teacher with a union grievance against our principal. So I have had a lot of stuff to deal with. But the training is one of my sources of solace from all of that stuff. And now it is summer and I get to reap one of the benefits of my profession.
I hope everyone is doing well. It seems we have lost a member (ItsOnlyMoney) but I am glad that the rest of us have hung on and I hope he is doing alright.

How is everyone's training going?   Big progress on the bike for me this summer, swim is looking good, run is going but not great.  Lots of work to do there.  Next race is 7/20, an aquabike at the Spirit of Racine (HIM).  I figure that'll give me an idea of whether or not I want to tackle the run too later this summer.

Hope all is well!!
