My very first marathon was San Diego Rock n' Roll, and I LOVED every minute of it.  I admit I was a little ill at the start seeing that many people, but once we started it was a blast.  Having crowd support nearly the entire course was awesome.  I wouldn't rule out a big race.

That was my first too.  what year did you do it?  I was there in 2005.

It was in 2000.  I feel so old...

I did it again in 2003, because I was living in So Cal at the time.

Wasn't it a great race?

Fun race.  I shouldn't have started (and slogged to a ridiculously slow finish) but it was a nice trip to San Diego.

Not too big a volume for me this weekend, only about 9 miles tomorrow am.

I did sign up for the Chicago Rock and Roll 1/2 mary next weekend . . . finally a different course that does not run along the lakefront like ALL OTHER Chicago races.  Sounds like I am whining, but gets boring when they are all the same . . . I like different scenery.

On a positive note, the zensah socks have worked beautifully this week running (calfs feels wonderful and not at all stressed), but trade off is they seem to make me hotter . . . . arrrrgggghhhh.  Why does there always have to be a trade off with a potential solution?

  1. my first marathon
  2. San Diego
  3. live bands all over the place
  4. San Diego
  5. I finished

It was just very memorable for me.  You run by the lighthouse downtown area, Balboa Park, Sea World, and then finish through the Naval Base.  It was just a lot of fun.

Liquid with electrolytes (both gatorade and pedialite work).

This may sound strange -- what color is your pee?

It's clear as always but i just feel drained and stomach issues with new med. I guess I amHydrated enough but will continue to take in electrolytes just in case. It can't hurt can it? I just hope stomach is better by the morning. It's def not nerves. Jen, you didn't send the stomach bug my way did you?

I ended up getting new tires yesterday. Slightly starting to flatten a bit on the tops. Picked up Michelin Krylion Carbons. Reviews seemed to be really good. They run about $60 each though but was able to get 20% off at LBS. Somehow I convinced them in March to sponsor me. That don't really mean much but I get free tuneups, free jersey and 15-20% off everything. Works for me. There was a really good rider in the ship that day and they were talking about sponsorships. I immediately went into the salesman I am and asked how I get in on that.

Pretty sure I had a decent race.  Didn't get to get into the results tent and forgot to hit start on my Garmin until half way into the bike.  Yay me.

I had a great experience today.  Couple mishaps.  My zipper broke on my brand new blue seventy wetsuit as I was trying to unzip coming out of the water.  Took 4 minutes to get it off in T1.  Damn it!!!  I was able to fix it when I got home.  Heavy rain, and very choppy water with prob 3 foot swells the entire time.  I will post my report later tonight or in the morning.  i did finally meet Kelly and Shaun today.  Thanks for all the support you two, and finally great to meet you in person.

Alright so interesting experience today.  My wave/AG had 134 people in it.  I went off in the middle of the middle which I figured out later was a mistake.  I should have gone off the edge or right at the line.  Basically I ran head on in to 3 folks backstroking w/i a span of 200m.  Stopped me dead in my tracks.  Lesson learned.  Race was 500m/13.5 miles/3.65 miles.  I went 11:12 (boo)/35:09 (yay 24+mph)/27:48 (7:31/mile).  My tranisitions weren't bad, but the times suck because the area I had to cover was huge.  Probably ran an extra quarter of a mile in transition today at least.  Overall semi please with 1:18:09.  178 out of 1400+ overall and 27 out of 134 in my AG.  The really good news is the swim felt way too easy and I could have pushed more.
