![]() | ![]() Jo63 - 2012-09-09 8:54 PM Well as you guys can see they pulled me at mile 87 I think it might of been 85 either way there was no way I could make the cutoff I was told I could go for another half an hour and they were gonna pull me anyway. I still feel like crap from whatever I have. So I am chalking this up to maybe contributing to my demise, even if it didnt the hills were a . Anyway not the Birthday Present to myself I was hoping for but there is always next year when I turn 50. ![]() Joanne, that’s tough. I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through all the training and then not get to the finish line. But Dirk’s point is a valid one, and I think I’d like to take it on as the mantra of the group. The heart of an athlete is found in the training. I love that concept. I’ve heard coaches say that everyone has the will to win, but not everyone has the will to prepare to win. You prepared well and gave it everything you had that day. For whatever reason, the body said “not today”. I know it’s a disappointment, but the important thing is what we do with the adversity. And I can tell by your comments even the very next day that you are going to use this to motivate and continue on. That’s a true athlete and a tough competitor. We’ve had a lot of great races and incredible improvement this year, and a few DNFs. The character of the group is brought out as much or more by the DNFs and the response to that challenge as in any of the podiums we've had. You guys are all rock starts in my book. I know it sappy, but I’m seriously honored to be part of this group of such tough and committed athletes and family men and women. |

I TOTALLY agree with this ^ I absolutely love the picture of you and your sons. Matching race attire, too! What good looking kids you have. Matt - I didn't get on here last evening so I wasn't aware of your prayer request until now. I trust God to give you the wisdom and peace you need to deal with your Dad. I'm sorry your family is having to go through this tough time. Know you have my prayers and support. JoAnne - I know you learned a lot about yourself on the course yesterday. Take the positives and learn from the experience. I love your talk of conquering the course again. You can SO do it. Thanks for all the good vibes from this group yesterday. I got a kick out of seeing all the posts as you tracked us Junkies. I only saw Dirk on the run course as he was heading home and I was heading out and he was flying! What an awesome athlete he is! Quick summary for me - this was the 4th 70.3 I've done and I set a PR by 7 minutes. I told Dirk after the race that this was the last HIM I was going to do because I just don't think the distance suits me well. Then, on my way back from Cedar Point this morning I found myself going over some things I could improve upon. When I realized I was thinking a future 70.3 I stopped myself and laughed out loud in my car. ![]() May you all have a blessed Monday! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren I totally agree with everything you've said that was a great post. Brenda congrats on the new PR at the HIM yesterday so have you already decided on when your next HIM will be? It was a blast tracking everybody yesterday and it was great to see all the Junkies out there racing in the many different events that were going on this past weekend. So have you ever had one of those "somebody remind me why I decided to do this again" moments? I believe I had one this afternoon shortly after confirming my registration for Ironman Wisconsin 2013. I know, I know I really am not sure what I was thinking and maybe that was the problem that I wasn't actually thinking. I still can't believe I actually did it but I can't worry about it now there are still two races to go which I need to focus on. I can get back to worrying about it how I am going to do it in Nov. Rumor has it if you registered for a 2013 Iron distance event you have automatic entry back into the Junkies mentoring program for 2013. I am trying to confirm if this is true or not as I believe I will need all the help that I can get in order to do this. |

They did love wearing the team uni, and I always get a lot of comments about that kit. I put my race report up. I love that you are already scheming improvement on an event you’re never going to do again - that’s the sign of a true junkie! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren, I too love the pic of you and your boys in your kits. What great experience to share with them. I someday hope my girls will agree to do a relay with me. Tony and Joanne, I heard IM Wisconsin doesn't normally sell out. Don't take my word for it but that's what I've heard. I know IMLOU doesn't sell out. A friend of mine says you can register for that one during race week. Matt, How are things with your dad? Keep us updated as I know we would like to support you however we can. For my race, well you can read all about it here at: The worlds longest race report I had a wonderful day off and got a massage and got our camper taken to the storage building......my brother unsold house. Chilled and just generally relaxed. I felt like I earned it and I took advantage of the chill to it's fullest. I had a milkshake and some ice cream. Never fear though, I'll be back on the horse tomorrow and I hope to get a swim and bike in. Both will be easy and kind of short, 2500 and 20 miles all easy. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dirk thanks for posting your RR can't wait to read it. I have heard mixed things on Wisconsin as far as how fast general entry it sells out. I think you are right though as there were the more expensive foundation slots still open up until about a week or so from the race this year. I think it really hasn't sunk in for me yet. I'm sure reality will hit home sooner or later and I will have a good cry about it LOL. In any case if you guys have an interest, are so bored you don't know what to do with yourselves or have insomnia I have posted my thoughts about doing IM in my blog. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One more thing to mention today being it is 9/11 just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to all the families and friends who lost loved ones on that day. It will be a day that I will never forget as I was in the city that day right up the block from WTC and close enough to see what was going on but thankfully not close enough to be in any danger. The funny thing is I used to work in the World Financial Center right across the street from WTC and I moved up to Greenwhich Village in March of 2011 otherwise I would have been right there at that time on that day. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I officially ran too fast at the track over the weekend, as my soreness has turned into pain officially. It was delayed onset muscle soreness, which then turned into pain. I know this feeling, and it will take more than a few days to get past it. I'm slightly annoyed at myself! I also have what someone said in another forum ringing through my head: "I don't get injured from increasing mileage, I get injured from speedwork." Case in point! It wasn't anything structured really, I decided to run a few 400s (which I never do), and that was the problem, although I just did 3, but faster than I was ready for as I now know. I'm glad I didn't do any more! I haven't had a full rest week in a looong time, so I think I'm just going to make this as a reason to do so, and not bike either. (No swimming planned initially.) Hopefully it'll be back to simply soreness by the end of the week, and I can get back to normal running next week... I'm trying to be conscious of getting certain foods in my system to hopefully speed up the recovery. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Samantha, Take it easy for as long as you need to get that recovery complete. I am sure I don't have to remind you how long injuries can take to properly heal, you've already been there. When you come back to running make sure you dedicate yourself to keeping the runs as easy as possible and ending them at the first site of problems. One other thing Samantha. At the race the other day I thoroughly crushed an MSU triathlete. He would have went off in the swim possibly 30 minutes before me and I cruised by him on the run. He looked as if he were suffering rather badly when I cruised through. I almost gave him a "Go Blue" on the way by, but I thought better of it. There was also a girl there from UM that placed in her field. I happened to hear that she placed but not what place she actually got. If I could have found her I would have asked where I could have gotten a UM Tri t shirt. That is on my list of items to purchase but I can't find them anywhere online. I wonder if there if there is anyone around the campus that might have a connection that might be able to put me in touch with someone to purchase a shirt from? I am taking another day of work but I am being completely non-productive. My Garmin 910 has developed some problems uploading data. There is a firmware update that I think has caused the problem. Now I cannot get anything from last weekends race to move over and all I get are messages that the upload failed. Over and Over and Over......... I am rather unpleasant right now because of this. I have sent some info to Garmin and I am now awaiting a response. However, the last time I dealt with them for a problem they weren't so hasty to respond. Right now I am wanting someone on the phone!!! Edited by DirkP 2012-09-11 11:37 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dirk sorry to hear about the Garmin acting up. Hope they can help you resolve that issue. Thanks for posting the pics I love the finishing pic. That is the great thing about Rev3 events they are very family oriented, it was great to see you get to finish with your family. Brenda thanks for reminding me about those hills. Believe it or not we have ALOT of hills on the North Shore of Long Island. I have a feeling I will be becoming intimately familiar with many of them in the upcoming year. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tony, yes I read the book "You are an Ironman", it was an amazing book. You can do it! We are all behind you pushing and cheering! Samantha, sorry you are sore, hope it is a minor thing and you heel up fast, ice and aleve. Dirk, it is your fault about the GPS, you just swam, biked and ran to fast and the GPS couldn't keep up with you and it got its feeling hurt and said I QUIT! |
