Nicole83 - 2009-10-07 12:55 PM So one thing I will say about this whole husband in Daytona thing...

Sure makes training without feeling guilty a lot easier.

Maybe I WILL plan that winter marathon after all...

So the Longhorn athlete guide came out and a couple surprises...

First the good one, looks like they're going to have our name on our BIBs which is awesome! I've only had that in the half marathon before, glad they're picking up on things like that

Next thing I'm conflicted about... they got rid of Quadzilla on the run and had already gotten rid of it on the bike so it's no longer part of the race this year.  On the good side the run is easier and 3 loops, I like more loops... more loops = more crowd to distract me even though I don't hear a word they say it's stuff going on Bad side is this was a defining trademark of the race and it's a HIM it's supposed to be hard...

Good all depends on what you're looking for in a game... If you're looking for a close nail biter you might need to look else where than Baton Rouge... If you like watching the #1 rushing,  #2 scoring,  #1 in total defense and #2 in scoring defense destroy an over rated team then you're in luck!

All smack talk aside, I'm just hoping Tebow is alright and ready to play. It'll be a close game and should be a blast to be at

That's a fast bike split, just make sure you get off the bike fairly fresh. You'll have plenty of time to punish yourself and make it hurt on the run, trust me!  I looked at the course elevation and it looks like there is one big climb and the rest is mostly downhill. Don't hit that steep uphill to hard...  you might have heard this before but you start the race with a set of matches to burn, save as many as you can for the run.  You can burn a match in only 30s if the intensity is high enough so always be careful on hill climbs...

As always make sure to let us know how it went as soon as you can!

Newtons1st - 2009-10-05 3:34 PM And yeah I need to work on my pace. I have a hangering for just letting it rip on the bike but will hold back (a little). But I still plan on letting it all hang out and make it hurt and come across the line with 0 left in the tank. That just sounds so fun.

So I guess I will put it out there goal times

1500m swim - 29:00
T1 - 2:30
25 mi Bike - 1:13:00
T2 - 1:45
6.2 mi Run - 1:06

ohh jeeezz I just wrote it down now.

Did you get an email?  I didn't get it!

Our names were on our bibs at Timberman....it was great!!  There were a couple times on the run I was at some serious low points, and to have random people cheer for me was the biggest help in the world!

I've been mentally preparing myself for Quadzilla.  I'm semi-relieved to not be running it, although with my love of running hills I was secretly a little excited for it.  3 loops....like you said, GREAT for the crowd support BUT mentally that's a killer for me.  For me this is where the mental aspect is far harder than the physical.

Three loops is good for us, will help with pacing and breaking up the run. Why do more loops bother you?

You'd think I'd be used to it bc when I run and bike in CP I'm constantly doing loop after loop after loop.  I know I shouldn't be thinking about it like this, bc this is a different race and a clean slate, but Timberman was a 2 loop course (which I really thogh I'd like, btw) and it was mentally a lot tougher than I imagined.  Going into that 2nd loop I was really hurting and knowing that I was running the same 6+ miles again was slightly daunting.  I have 2 weeks to HTFU and get over it

You need to not think about it like oh man I'm going to be hurting and have another loop left. Instead think of it as 1st loop you don't care about your time at all, it's just go slow and get into a rhythm.  By the time you hit loop #2 you maintain your rhythm and on the final loop you think I'm almost done and start building your pace faster each mile and finish strong.

KelliD - 2009-10-08 9:01 AM You'd think I'd be used to it bc when I run and bike in CP I'm constantly doing loop after loop after loop.

I think you are right. My goal is to ave 20 mph on the bike. So at the actual 25.8 mi that makes it 1:17. Needs to be adjusted.

I rode the course about 3 weeks ago. First 6 mi is flat to down hill with mi 4 to 6 being a nice sloping downhill. There are 2 hills after that and they are back to back and about .5-.75 mi long. My plan was to take it easy on them, sounds like that is a good plan. Then the rest of small rolling with a slight decent. Wind is generally from my back on the last 17 mi.

When you say set of matches that means I have more than two right? Can I borrow some matches?

You have as many matches as you've earned in training, they are unfortunately non-transferable

Newtons1st - 2009-10-08 8:54 AM So are there any vD side bets in the household?

evondo - 2009-10-08 7:58 AM Good all depends on what you're looking for in a game...

I think it's for the best, I mean we haven't even met in person yet and if you haven't heard I'm getting married soon...

Nicole83 - 2009-10-08 12:04 PM Wow.

Dude, no sex for you.

lol

evondo - 2009-10-08 11:21 AM This is true but I'll trade upset Betsy for a day for a year of 'top plate' hehe

Betsy0706 - 2009-10-08 10:18 AM HOLD ON!  WAIT A MINUTE!  I take some serious offense to that!  Tigers do whatever needs to be done to get the W.  It might not always be pretty but we get the job done!  And that's all that matters!  I hope Tebow does play because I don't want to hear any whining that the only reason we beat you guys was because Brantley was in.  You do not want to mess with a girl that is passionate about her Tigers!

And besides - either way Eric loses!

evondo - 2009-10-08 9:06 AM We have a UF and LSU dinner plate rack in the dining room and the winner of this game gets the top spot for the year

LOL ~ Eric made a funny!!!

Sorry, bro....   I know I violated the bro code ~ ['bro's before ho's' or 'poles before holes'], but I know more peeps that graduated from there... (I only know 1 gator...) and if he ain't careful...'dem der cajuns will catch, clean and cook up that lil' gator!'

BTW ~ BvD (I am NOT implying that you b a ho.... it is simply a generic term that applies to all females, when speaking about the bro code!)    LOL! {holes on the other hand.... I just leave that one alone.  It was rude enough just writing it down, I don't think it needs any further discussion} or I will looking at an a$$ whoopin'!  lol! Ahhh, nothing like good ol' juvenile humor!
