Spent an hour in the gym this morning and tonight I have a 2:30 ride on the trainer. I am planning on watching the Spinnerval WI IM course.

I'm looking to do a shorter ride in LP and given the lack of roads it's difficult aside from cutting the out and back. Does anyone know the area well enough to know if County Hwy 12 is paved and rideable? It's the road that continues on in Upper Jay when you make the right turn to stay on 9N. On the map it appears to cut across to 86 with a short bit on Fox Farm Road. But who knows, it could be unpaved or paved with potholes so I'm curious if anyone has been on it!

Hey All,

I'll be up there 5/21-22 and riding on Saturday.  I get in late Friday. I'm planing to do 2 loops so I know I can do it and I'm slow.. I'll probably go too fast the 1st lap and suffer the 2nd, but i'll be up there if anyone is looking for me I know, I'm not here much.

Shoot man, based on your avatar pic, nobody is gonna miss seeing you on the bike!!  I can't see how all that hair is Aero either.  No wonder you always suffer on the second loop.  It must also get really heavy and wet when you sweat.

JoshKaptur - 2010-05-11 10:19 AM I'm still in recovery from my 55 minute PR in Saturday's HIM

So I'll be doing an easy spin tonight to try to flush the legs out.

Oh, and I'm going to mow the lawn too, before my neighbors revolt.  I expect my lawn-mowing fitness to make a huge difference at Lake Placid.

Josh, HUGE CONGRATS on a HUGE PR and SUB 5 HOURS.  Sub 5 at a HIM is one of my Dream Goals.  Way to go man!!! What a HUMONGOUS, GIGANTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!

seriously!

I'm tired.  Yaaaawn.  I just need to make it through one more 10-hour+ week and then I can Taper for my HIM, Harryman.  And, well, It's actually a little bit longer than a HIM cause due to a Bike course change, the Bike is going to be 61 Miles!! So it's actually a 77.3!!  Which is for the better in the long run, as far as LP training is concerned, but I'm sure during those extra 7 miles of climbing I won't be too happy!!

Anyone else doing Harryman?  I know a bunch of you are doing Jerseyman and then Eagleman.  Lot's of ****man races   What the heck.

Does Jerseyman have crazy hills?

I'm also doing Rev3 June 6th, which I heard is even hillier than Harryman.  Not sure how that's possible, but I'm gonna find out.  Mental Note: Learn to Love Hills.

That's all I got people.  Cue the crickets.

That is definitely funny and true

Well bike didn't happen.  I got back from my run and laid down for a 1hr nap that turned into 3hr.  Ooops!

Stacy got back from Pitt so I decided to spend the evening with her instead of another CT ride.

I just got in from an "every other year IMLP" training ride.  What does that mean?  It means it was pouring the entire time!  Cars were pulled over on the side of the road and there were several inches of water across the entire road lots of the time.  It was epic!  And a bit chilly.  I got several people who told me how crazy I was, which just made it that much better.  There was something bad-a$$ about cutting through the water like a knife and watching it fly out in either direction from my front wheel

^^^^Yeah that does not sound fun at all! I have ridden LP in the summer in the pouring rain and that was tolerable but I couldn't imagine it with this cooler weather.

Thanks James. Can you or anyone else put this into perspective....how much climbing is each loop of LP? What does a flat course like Eagleman have for climbing? Just trying to guage where this course fits in so I can go in with a proper pacing strategy. Thanks!

EagleMan is flat (0 climbing) the most climbing you do at Eagle man is get in and out of your car.

LP is about 3000ft per loop.

No doubt IMLP has some "serious" climbing (though IMSG apparently shames us), but I've always found that graphs like that make the climbing seem worse than it is.  Because the x and y axis are arbitrarily defined, that graph makes it look like you are climbing straight up the side of Everest.

Not trying to downplay the importance of being ready to climb for IMLP, but I also don't want someone who has never seen the course (um, me) to see that and panic.

If you've worked on climbing in training, I've actually heard that the climbs at LP are "not really a big deal"

Until I ride the course, I'm choosing to believe that... but keeping my compact + 12/27

What Josh hasn't told you is that we wore his wetsuit on his bike.  Water repellant AND warm!
