Heart is doing fine, had a complete physical in Feb.  Must have been the extra coffee from the afternoon break.  Finished a 6 mile run this morning before church, will post the actual time when I down load from my Garmin later.  How is the family quarterback?

Sweet run Lena.

Hey all!

Just a swing by.  About 1pm yesterday they decided that my DD didn't need her appendix out and released her.  She may need it out later.   About 9:30 last night decided to go ahead and do the tri.  4 am I was packing.  Did okay, beat last years time by at least 3 minutes.  Have had about 9 hrs sleep in the last two days and a ton of stuff to do tonight.  DS had 2 soccer games today.  His team won both and he scored one goal and got an assist.

RR to come later

Billy glad to hear your heart is okay.

Billy - There are many athletes, including a pro, who have discovered heart issues. In fact, Dick Hoyt had bypass surgery due to exposure of a problem through training.  Now, I know you are a "man" but get your man to the doctor and discuss what happened and what he/she would recommend.  Now, I would make it a priority to find a doc who is an athlete (all of you should do this).  Most docs oftne recommend rest no matter what - and we all ignore them.  Get to a doc who is an athlete or treats tons of them so they understand what you are going through.  In case you missed the message here I will yell.....GET YOUR BACK TO THE DOCTOR.  NOW!  (stepping off soap box)

Gary - glad your daughter is better and congrats on the PR.  I have updated the finish lines.  We are on some kind of pace to put up some serious finish line numbers this year....

Amy - I hope your boys leg is better....I have a guy who works for me whose son just had a titanium rod removed from his femur.  He asked the doc for it and got it to put in a shadow box....I thought it would make a sweet top tube....

Speaking of top tube.....FINALLY SOME NEW BIKE PORN....love that....sweet ride....is that a bite valve on the end of that mondo straw???

Mav - as you know Morton's neuroma can be bad and chronic....take care of it....follow what they say....I know a guy who had it removed from both feet at the same time...he couldn't walk but he healed and recovered once....it sounds like a nasty growth....

Lena - sounds like some tightening in the arch....put a tennis ball on the floor and roll it  around under that arch to loosen it up some....it is good to do this on both feet.  And no more long runs like that until showtime....

I ran the America's Run Half Marathon today - it started at Cowboy Stadium and went by the Ballpark at Arlington, Six Flags and then through some neighborhoods around Arlington, TX.  My brother and I ran it together.  Stride for stride - just cruising the 13.1.  It was a great day - cloudy and in the 60s - just a touch of humidity.

Troy Aikman walked right by me prior to the start and we said "hey" to each other.  I doubt he recognized me....LOL....it was his first half marathon.  Debbie took a picture of him after he finished.

It was a strange day - they imploded Texas Stadium at 7am - right before we started.  We watched the stadium destruction on the big screen at the new stadium.   It seemed like cheating on your girlfriend or something....

We drove by the old stadium site on our way to the airport...it was surreal looking at that site, where that legendary stadium stood for over 30 years.  Many memories there...we celebrated state championships in that stadium with my nephew.  We watched many Thanksgiving day Cowboy games as well as many Cowboy games.  Tom Landry coached there.  It is like a great friend who transcended my childhood, college years, early adulthood and maturity is gone.  That is really weird -- talking that way about a stadium....

Hope you are all doing well....it certainly sounds like it.  Keep to the plan....

See you at the finish line.

Bryan, congrats on the Half.. wow, reading all that about a stadium almost had me choked up.. what a special day to run the half, sounds like!!! How did you do, btw?

I see a sports doc (ultra-marathoner himself) who does ultrasound therapy on my arch and shin, i'm convinced he is a big part of why I've been able to keep running these distances. And yeah, no more long runs like that till May 1 this weekend, I'm scaling down to 16-18 (depending on how i feel), next weekend is 12, and the weekend after that is the big, bad, scary marathon!

To answer your question from earlier... I've run the last 3 long runs (20, 16, 26) on Infinit alone. I have a 70 ounce hydration pack which I fill with about 6-7 scoops. This past week, I also carried another 16 oz bottle with 2 scoops for the first hour, then tossed it at the gas station. Before the run, I eat a banana or a pbj sandwich (or uncrustable). That seems to be enough fuel and I do not run out of energy, so that is my race day plan I will probably bring 2-3 Gu with me as well, just for added kick at the end, but that's it.

I plan to get a fuel belt with two 22 oz bottles, make one a very concentrated amount for 5 hours worth, and then fill the other bottle with a little of the Infinit concentrate and water at aid stations. Unfortunately, here I have no way to test it (short of putting water on the path beforehand, which seems too much work), as i run on the path in the woods). WHat do you think? Does that seem like a reasonable plan?

hey folks... been away for awhile. Family has had some serious medical issues, and I have been mom, dad, nurse, bread winner, etc. Not sure what it means for training. I did ride 15 on a mountain bike yesterday and another 14 today. IT WAS GREAT!

I know I've been MIA... lots of changes in my life, and lots of stress... I've been getting some good rides in, but can't seem to make it up the HILLS...  I've been doing MAJOR climbing... and as my century gets closer, we're doing longer rides with higher hills...  not sure if it's my heart problem, just not enough muscle, or my bike... so, I choose the bike... I ordered a compact crank hoping that makes the difference. It'll take about a week to come in.

I'm in the middle of my stress test - I did the TM part this morning - lasted 11:45 on the TM - only 45 seconds at my 85% HR goal - I SUCK  lol... gotta go back to do the resting part... I get results Wednesday late afternoon...

Hey all!
RR here:
http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/training/triathlons/t-gator-1-rr

Diane - I am about to do the same.  I have to believe my bike is the slow part.

Walker - sorry to hear about the family issues.  Hopefully everything will calm down and training can resume

Lena - no help for you on your question, good luck on the fuel belt.

LRR - congrats on the 1/2!  Saw there were looking for mentors, may throw my hat in the ring.

I guess I will post since no one else seems to want to.  Not talking about my quarterback of course.

Road 1:45 yesterday the bike, I think 28 miles.  Didn't do a very good job tracking it.

Did an open water swim today.  2112 yards, Half ironman distance, in my new wetsuit, 40:24 minutes.  I was very pleased with this result.  My goal for HIM was 45 minutes.

Hey all!

Well daughter is better but wife and son got sick.   Now I feel like I am fighting off what they had no puking yet.  Just lite workouts this week.  I feel better afterwards for awhile.  At this point as long as it doesn't get worse I am okay.  I will just toss out any time expectations and go slow.  Plan to pick up my packet Friday, bike check late Saturday.  Spend Sat night there and have fun on Sunday.  Hoping to meet up with some other BT'ers (including Billy hopefully) Sat night if I can get down there in time.

Good News! The Cardiologist said there was VERY minor leakage, and that it was in NORMAL range... He said I could come back in a year if I wanted, but I shouldn't have to ever come back again! Smile  I'm PO'd at the Doctor who said "don't exercise" and go to a Cardiologist... why do they do crap like that? CYA??? I think I lost about 3 years of my life due to stress in the last couple of weeks... feels good to be in the clear

Big accomplishment for me tonight - I made it up Red Rock without having to get off my bike and walk... It's kinda the cyclists test route around here. The first 2 times I tried it, I had to walk my bike up the hill, but tonight I made it all the way! I'm not too excited LOL

Here's the elevation profile (as ridden by me tonight - I did do a couple of small circles around to catch my breath)

see that small hill at mile 9... we call that "The Wall" - it's where you go from 35mph to 6mph in about 3 seconds  All total, I did the ride in 1:10... now that I made it, I just have to improve my time...

I got a finish line today.  It was only a 5K but the first one for the season.  Not as impressive as what Billy and Gary are doing today.

I am going to start tracking them.  Cant wait to hear the race report
